  1. ATB nights should be abolished not encouraged. Nothing worse than having to stand listening to half an hour or an hour of music that you detest before the real stuff comes back on.
  2. Now that one IS both Northern and R & B in fact it crosses over both genres, so it must be Crossover!
  3. In this case we're talking about £100 increments though. I wouldn't accept a £99 one. Rules is rules.
  4. Thats a very very sensible way to go.
  5. Sounds fair.
  6. I don't know why you keep saying this. Nobody is saying they are tailor made Northern Soul records, but as Frankie rightly says, the sound of 1964-67 was the big city soul sound and the motown sound and thats what lots of records were made to sound like because of those influences. From a 1973 viewpoint, or a 2014 viewpoint, Ray Agee and 50,000 other records ARE Northern Soul.
  7. I don't think it's Northern (especially as it has the same tune as Jamaica Ska by the Ska Kings, they probably covered him though) sounds like a black pop record with R & B overtones, wouldn't have stood a chance as a Northern record 30 years ago
  8. Are you sure, I've had that and didn't even think it was a rare record! £25 job.
  9. Open The Door To Your Heart by Darrell Banks, if you close your eyes and just listen to the thing, it's one of the most beautiful, heartbreaking, emotional things you'll ever hear, this sort of music changes lives - and you can bet at the end of the session they just said "ok lads that's it, same time next week" and only thought about the next record they were going to make.
  10. Mace I'm not doing this to be difficult but I just can't hear it, all I hear are blazing horns which open a tremendous Northern Soul record...I can't think of many more 100% out and out Northern records.
  11. But if it's not a genre, what are we into? What are all the websites, events, cd compilations dedicated to Northern Soul? In HMV, every genre is represented and there's one for Northern Soul compilations as well as Blues, Reggae etc. What type of music did we or do we all travel round the country to hear? It's Northern Soul.
  12. No I did know what you mean about The Sharonettes, but the vocalist on Love You Baby might be someone like Sherlie Matthews?
  13. Yes, excellent version that
  14. No I'm afraid there is. We all know what it is, just looks as if you don't. Umbrella my arse, my 84 year old next door neighbour would recognise something like Philly Dog Around The World as Northern Soul, he wouldn't say "Hmm, it might be this sub genre of Northern Soul called R & B but it does come under the umbrella of Northern Soul".
  15. Don't agree: the female version of Love You Baby is very good, whoever it is, and it'll be a professional black singer from LA no doubt so not some white cover artist. The remake of No One Else Can Take Your Place is better than the original as well...in my opinion.
  16. Don't bother, it doesn't hold a candle to Open The Door or Our Love...
  17. Yeah I really enjoyed going to Wigan Casino in the 1970's to dance the night away to R & B, I loved collecting R & B records and being part of that R & B clique, you know that underground movement called R & B, in fact there's a film just about to come all about this scene in the 70's, surprisingly the film is called "Northern Soul"...
  18. I have a documentary about the Fame Studios but it's from around 1970 - have any of you seen it?
  19. For £200 I'll teach you how to spell
  20. £100 for this, who, when, why?
  21. I'd love to know when those three records went from being Northern Soul to being R & B...
  22. Gimme two boss lines baby it's r & b time
  23. Because it's got lots of the same digit. I got one recently with four 4's in a row.
  24. Skype
  25. Yes it does
