I know that, you know that, surely a potential buyer should also know that, or is it simply that people don't care how much they spend as they have money to burn, and it saves them having to trawl through ebay and sales lists? Why would someone pay £100 plus for an Ernest Mosley bootleg on ebay? Why would someone ask over £100 for a Ronnie & Robyn pressing? Just doesn't make any sense to me at all.

Well officially, they can't be downloaded, they are just to be listened to. But there's always a way. Copy the url, and then go to www.offliberty.com and paste it in, it should download it for you or there is a program called mixcloud harvester which will do the same thing takes about 20 mins to download the podcasts usually -

True, though it sounds weird hearing it in stereo off the LP as opposed to the old bootleg which was in mono and way more powerful. Blimey I did some jumping around to that record when I was 15! -

No hard work involved Chris, apart from typing up the track listings. I love doing the podcasts, and the reggae ones, and the punk ones, whatever. Shame my broadband isn't working properly or there'd be all 10 volumes of it up by now. -

I only issue a warning when I do oldies ones because before I've had people saying "blimey what a played out bunch of oldies" but that's the point sometimes! I've done enough rarities compilations to keep people going for months. This time I decided I would dig out every oldie I really liked, going right back to the youth club days, and post up the lot, eventually. Just done part 3 and will try and get that posted today if I can. Thanks for listening everyone. -
It sure is a rare record and I can understand why people were after it.
-
is that what rarity is measured by nowadays then? (What I mean is - Ive probably got 2 or 300 hundred records that those two haven't got - does that make them rare?)
-
I had an Uncle by marriage who used to go to the Catacombs, he also went to the first night at Wigan, anyway in 1975 he gave me a tape of all the current big sounds, it included Dena Barnes, Eloise Laws, Sam Ward, and also Ronnie & Robyn. I didn't know anyone who'd ever heard of it. Anyway a year later, I bought an Emidisc of a DJ who came to play in our village, I actually bought it for whatever was on the A side because there was nothing written on the B. Turned out to be Ronnie & Robyn. So I always did a tape to play on the coach or in the car, and even then nobody knew it. I don't ever remember it being played until Russ played it in 1977, soon after it came out with the instrumental on the B side. So to sum up, it may well have been a minor Cats play but other than that, no idea!

How many of these actually turned up? Less than ten? Supposedly from a flooded basement in Detroit...all are water damaged labels but nice vinyl apparently. If one was to be up for sale, any ideas what price should be asked for it?

OLD SCHOOL NORTHERN SOUL PART 2 The second part of our Oldies extravaganza...400+ still to come. My broadband has been running at practically nothing for 3 weeks now due to an underground fault which BT are taking ages to sort, hence not as many uploads as usual. This one took over 2 hours to upload, it usually takes 10 minutes! If anyone doesn't want to wait and wants all 500 tracks, let me know MIKE POST COALITION — AFTERNOON OF THE RHINO PAUL ANKA — I CAN’T HELP LOVING YOU VICKIE AINES — COUNTRY GIRL AL WILSON — HELP ME REPARATA & THE DELRONS — PANIC CHUBBY CHECKER — YOU JUST DON’T KNOW JACKIE BEAVERS — COME BACK MY LOVE THE DELITES — LOVER RICHARD TEMPLE — THAT BEATIN’ RHYTHM GWEN OWENS — JUST SAY YOU’RE WANTED (AND NEEDED) THE MAYFIELD PLAYERS — DON’T START NONE JOE HICKS — DON’T IT MAKE YOU FEEL FUNKY JOHNNY HAMPTON — NOT MY GIRL BRENDA HOLLOWAY — RECONSIDER LARRY CLINTON — SHE’S WANTED THE VAN DYKES — SAVE MY LOVE FOR A RAINY DAY POOKIE HUDSON — THIS GETS TO ME SHAWN ROBINSON — MY DEAR HEART THE EMANONS ORCHESTRA — BIRD WALKIN’ MARTHA & THE VANDELLAS — ONE WAY OUT JOHN ANDREWS — IT’S JUST LOVE MORRIS CHESTNUT — TOO DARN SOULFUL THE EPITOME OF SOUND — YOU DON’T LOVE ME LOU EDWARDS — TALKIN’ BOUT POOR FOLK DTEOIT EXECUTIVES — COOL OFF KENNY GAMBLE — THE JOKE’S ON YOU THE 7TH AVENUE AVIATORS — YOU SHOULD O’ HELD ON LIFE — TELL ME WHY THE MAGNETICS — LADY IN GREEN THE POINTER SISTERS — SEND HIM BACK STEMMONS EXPRESS — WOMAN LOVE THIEF THE ADMIRATIONS — HEAVEN IS IN YOUR ARMS DEREK MARTIN — IF YOU GO LESLIE UGGAMS — DON’T YOU EVEN CARE THE SHOWMEN — YOU’RE EVERYTHING FRANKIE (LOVE MAN) CROCKER — TON OF DYNAMITE BOBBY FREEMAN — I’LL NEVER FALL IN LOVE AGAIN EDDIE DAYE & FOUR BARS — GUESS WHO LOVES YOU BILLY KEENE — WISHING AND HOPING THE MASQUERADERS — HOW SAMMY LEE — WHAT GOES AROUND JOHN BOWIE — YOU’RE GONNA MISS A GOOD THING HARVEY — ANY WAY YOU WANTA NANCY BUTTS — I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND BOBBY MAC — SHY GUY VENECIA WILSON — THIS TIME I’M LOVING YOU SHERLOCK HOLMES — STANDING AT A STANDSTILL FRANK HOWARD — JUDY THE PERSIANETTES — IT HAPPENS EVERY DAY ANNABELLE FOX — LONELY GIRL https://www.mixcloud.com/mayfairmenthol/old-school-northern-soul-part-2/ -
Better every time you hear it, and I hear it a lot, it's mind blowing on the headphones. Thing is, on all the various mixes of I Miss My Baby, the backing track sounds really tame, but on that instrumental only, it's raging beast of a record!
-
Does rarity even come into it?
-
I agree with you Aaron. I base it on if I've ever had one. I think I've had every MGM stocker. I'd definitely ask £500 though.

I wouldn't take any notice of that if I were you.
-
I know, but that's worth £3!
-
Before the DB came along, if you were asking what would be the ultimate for UK collectors as far as a released record goes, i..e. not a one off acetate, I'd always say the Billy Harner instrumental, even though it was a custom press.
-
the UK radio wouldn't play the 'ethnic' versions so the strings were added to appease BBC radio one - consequently the records got airplay and made the charts.
-
Both legit, the bottom one is West Coast press and is usually harder to find than the 'normal' design.
-
Surely nobody really takes notice of sales talk like that do they? My first thought would be - listen to it on youtube, second would be go look it up on Discogs and see what it's really worth. I think the only time I ever went by a sales pitch was when someone, back in late 80's, said that Sam Bowie on Wingate was better than Ray Pollard's "Drifter". It wasn't.
-
It sounds so empty without the strings, same as Pat kelly - How Long Will It Take. Can't bear either of the no strings versions.
-
He's asking £66 for a record I ask £3 for
