  1. He died a few years ago. Had a farm in Devon or Cornwall.
  2. Sound clips - nonsense posts???? You ought to try listening to them, improve your taste in music
  3. It is the Sonics, it was a B side on a 45 but they are very hard to find, I took that one off the recent revamped Big Beat cd. Good though, bet it sounds great loud.
  4. I suggest that it is fact you who is going deaf mr so called Big Boy
  5. Nobody recognise the artist yet?
  6. After listening to this about 25 times I have now decided that it is brilliant and will have a row with anyone who disagrees
  7. Play it again, it's infuriatingly catchy...
  8. Of course I am expecting the inevitable 'shit''worst record ever' and all that, also 'it isn't soul' but I've been playing this a lot today and it's so catchy I can't get rid off it so I thought I'd send it up to see what you think, nb. it would be far better in mono. Oh bollocks I'll save you the trouble - it's shit, don't download it
  9. Dunno but surely nobody would pay more than 40 quid for it - I had a UK demo not so long back, think I only asked 30 for it. Shit record.
  10. Just posted it up in the for sale section if anyone's interested
  11. PETE SMITH 28 JENKS ROAD WOMBOURNE WOLVERHAMPTON WV5 0BL 01902 893569 pete.smith@freeuk.com Dear All Time for one last big list before Christmas I reckon. This is a mixture of never before listed stuff, items not sold off previous lists and now reduced, and some weird and wonderful obscurities including R&B, blues, popcorn and of course Northern Soul. If anyone wants to hear anything they are quite welcome to ring me (before 7pm please J I've still got a lot of stuff yet to arrive so I may yet do a list next week but it's doubtful. There's definitely a George Kirby on the way so if anyone wants that, it'll be 250 quid. Thanks to everyone for being so supportive this year, especially at the beginning of the year, it looked like curtains but now everything seems to be back to normal. Couldn't have done it without the help of people like ALAN, GORDON, JAMIE, DAVID, IAN, MARK, WINSTON, TERRY, ANDY, SANDY, NORMAN, PETE, JEZ, ANDY, STEVE, ANDY, PAUL, JOHN, PETER, DAVID, DENISE, STEVE and many many many more, so sorry that I can't remember everyone off the top of my head but you know who you are and how much it was apperciated - thanks again. 12. It's the way I tell 'em
  13. Not really, it's rubbish
  14. I have to disagree with you. I like Northern Soul, not Soul. Wouldn't want to confuse people.
  15. You lot...you don't half bite when I dangle the bait! Yes I hate modern and crossover but I like the odd one or two, if you like them then fine, I know where to go to avoid it so it's no problem, couple of my favourite records are certainly not northern (Diane Jenkins/Towana & Total Destruction) but I personally like to hear 60's northern and if they are going to play 70's then it would have to be Cleethorpes style 70's (east coast connection, norma jenkins, the gig, willie j & co) which still has a 4-4 beat. No offence meant to anyone, ever, when we're on this subject, I just like to see what happens
  16. Luau records, 32263 union ave, Cleveland. Had this a couple of times, very hard to get another one, I'd rate it say 200 but price guide only says 80...
  17. Thats because they ought to count themselves lucky they are allowed to listen to their shite music on our "60's music scene". Modern crowd - modern venues. Not Northern venues.
  18. It's a beat ballad Steve, not a northern dancer, and that sort of thing should be played at the end of the night.
  19. I wasn't going to say a thing!!!
  20. Maybe the second guy had already bid 3000 but it only showed up whenever he was outbid, so say it was at 1200, then another guy bid 1250, it would keep increasing automatically every time until it got to guy number 2's 3000 bid. Thing with those auctions though, instead of having a closing time, every time someone bids it stays open for a number of minutes.
  21. Someone mentioned him just now. This chap I met a few years ago gave me a reel to reel tape recorder plus a box of about 20 reel to reel tapes, all of which contain Mike Raven's soul show from radio circa 1969-70, plus a handwritten notebook where he's written down every track played. I've played three or four but only one had the dj intact, the rest had been paused and restarted just to get the music. Is this sort of thing of interest to anyone? I could probably set it up to record off the tape onto cd. Honestly, I've only listened to the first few cos I moved at that time and never got them out again.
  22. What about it?
  23. Simple - it's catchy and people enjoy dancing to it. That is the bottom line of any record on this scene, you have to be able to dance to it, if not, why is it being played?
  24. Sorry, I'd keep the R&B and remove the crossover as well as modern. In fact, crossover is even worse than modern because it's no particular style, just watered down northern. At least R&B is the roots of soul and not the roots of disco.
  25. Why not just shoot all dj's who play modern???
