They used the chord sequence and the riff for one track, I think it's Interzone, might be wrong, it really doesn't sound like it until someone points it out...thats when Searling & Anderson were giving them studio time

No Wendy, I used to dj a bit, not much, but I ought to send you the contents of my I-Pod (actually its not, its a creative labs but it holds 10,000 tracks) it's like listening to the best radio station in the world, honest (actually I should qualify that statement - theres about 1000 n.soul 1000 ska, probably 1000 60's, couple of hundred punk, couple of hundred late 70s early 80s, smattering of dub, some hip hop (public enemy, nwa, odb), must be 1000 nuggets type tracks (60's garage and psych) and blah blah blah, 100s of Bowie, Slade, T Rex as well) There is no deep or modern soul but theres one al green album and an ann peebles one.
  3. Dunno, must be way up there though - 800 or more? (Awaits Micks return from golf course to brag about how he got one off soul bowl for £3 in 1903)

  5. I'll swap you it for that Willie Hutch
  6. You have to think sensibly about this. Look how many demos Brunswick and the rest of the decca group were knocking out back then, hundreds of them. You can still pick up the likes of Chubby Checker, Adams Apples, Willie Mitchell and so on on demo for a tenner. Mick is right at £25 in fact that is too much for a 1977 Brunswick demo, but as usual demand drives the price up, I bet if Mick put his mind to it he could pick up half a dozen in a fortnight, in fact I'll take up the challenge, give me 2 weeks
  7. Even if it's a regular I don't think it should be allowed, it should be for sales not auctions. Auctions = greed. Unless of course the very rare instance where someone doesn't actually know what the record is worth. As for 'the bay' - you know I started the campaign to ban the phrase, you make it look as if I endorse it I started putting a :graynone: next to it when people did it but it didn't catch on

I've got it on a cd called Cry Tough on Heartbeat and it says that it's 'take 2', he's got such a soulful voice and although it's still obviously a reggae version, it is good...actually it's a cracking cd, one of the tracks on here I put on a tape must be a good 10 years ago under a different name because it was a soul version of Girl I Got A Date, finally turns up on Trojans northern cd last year. Also a good soul version of I'mJust A Guy on this cd as well. Sorry to ramble on...
  9. It's because you all smell

Sorry, was only pulling your leg. I don't like either, honestly. But I do like Alton Ellis' version if thats any help!

You asked a question - I answered it. Neither are any good compared to Jr Walker.
  12. People putting posts in the SALES section which just lead to Ebay links? There's enough crappy auctions elsewhere, I don't think auctions and Ebay links should be allowed. Plus the fact that most of the people who post them up only join simply to do so and never join in any of the discussions. Set sale prices or go elsewhere, that's what I say. This is not aimed at one individual, it's aimed at everyone who does it.

    Neither :graynone:

You all take this music WAY to seriously. I used to think it was the b all and end all, but it's not. Your kids are. Full stop.

Sad that that symbol will be my only legacy when I move on... "so what did Pete bring to Soul Source?" "Well he gave us the wanker sign"
  16. Pete S replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
Y'see this is where my comments get taken wrongly, I do like the fast seventies 4-4 dancers that were played, I'm talking about the Cleethorpes stuff mainly and if there was a no 70's rule there'd be no mel britt, natural 4 or whatever, what I'm saying is YES I AM BLINKERED to non-Northern Soul Soul, if that makes sense...it does very little for me and I would rather listen to The Ramones than Garland Green. But like you say, horses for courses...
  17. Oh, thats no good then...

Mindy actually gets on her hind legs and dances to it
  19. Pete S replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
No I agree with you when you say good is good except I just don't like hearing non-60's soul at northern do's, simple as that, I would rather they started playing rocksteady and reggae, at least it has some soul content. Anyway no doubt people would hate my taste in music (Punk, 60's garage, reggae, late 70's early 80's new wave stuff, scott walker etc)
  20. on Sable WDJ - nice eh? Any guesses what this will go for? Magnetics

I like Thinking Of You by Sister Sledge
  22. Not bothered anymore...you can only be hurt so much
  23. Pete S replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
What do you mean I love white soul, I used to collect British which means you have to buy a lot of white cover versions...yes I like Joanie Somers and Chapter Five, Dean Parrish, Barry St John, Shane Martin, a few more, but thats about 1% of the soul records I like. I don't class 70's/80's disco whatever it is as northern soul thats all.
  24. Pete S replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
Records like this and it's ilk totally ruined the northern scene for me and hundreds of other people. And still continue to do so.
