  5. Right I hope this all comes out ok. There are (almost) 60 very short snippets of songs here, you have to name the artist and/or song title, you get one point for each and whoever gets the most points by 12 midnight tomorrow night (thats the 23rd) will win a super prize donated by me - a one sided acetate of an unreleased track which hopefully you'll like. There are 9 separate sections. Following this post will be section one. Please have a go, it's only a laugh, you can send your answers to me at pete.smith@freeuk.com and I'll write up the top 5 when the quiz closes and announce the winner.
  6. Cos I don't know how to??? See I'd have to be doing this off records onto a cd, then when I put the cd in the pc I record those snippets but they are all individual tracks. I was thinking of doing one post with 5 separate ones, 5 with another and so on, but I am happy to take advice on how to do this, want to make it quite good so it's enjoyable for all. Tell you what I'll donate a prize to the winner...a good prize
  7. Well these are gonna be like tiny clips, 5 second sort of things, so if each round is 10 clips that's less than a minute and that shouldn't be too bad for dial up????
  8. OK tell me when to do it and I'll prepare a really good one, say 10 male groups, 10 female groups, solo, duets, instrumental breaks etc then maybe 10 pop 60's/70's/80's just to make it a bit lighter....someone suggest the best time to kick it off OR I could do it then upload it to someones server and they could play whenever they liked???
  9. Bugger ya then, I'll take that as a no
  10. Has it gone off topic??? You ought to close it anyway.
  11. Could do a guess the intro type thing if anyone is interested...post up say 50 intros, see who gets the most?? Anyone??
  12. Me too
  13. There is one more thing I have to say, to do with royalties, and thats to consider the plight of the reggae singer from the 60's (and 70's), they would be paid a flat fee for a session and that was it - so the producer then owned the rights to the record and could license it to who he wanted, as many times as he liked, and the artist would still only have his £10 studio fee. Some of these records have gone on to sell a million copies all over the world. At least the soul artists that you make a case for did have a chance of a royalty in the first place when their single was released, the Jamaican artists got nothing. I can 100% see the case for righting the wrongs in this instance.
  14. S'ok mate, just gearing myself up for the next round of 'new Goldmine cd' arguments...
  15. No I put a smiley on there. The rest was to inform people that you can actually withdraw items...
  16. It's my record and I can do what the hell I like with it basically! You do know that there is a form that you fill in to explain why you are withdrawing the item for sale? It's an official ebay form and the options include 'the item has already been sold', 'the item is lost or broken' or simply 'the item is no longer available'. It is not illegal to withdraw items for sale on Ebay!
  17. Okay, we are going round in circles here. You are in a minority when you say you want to know where the money is going when you buy a CD. If I go in HMV and buy a CD, I hand over my money and that is it - I have done my part, I've paid for the CD. What happens after that is none of my concern. OK so this morning I bought a 3cd best of hip hop thing for my girlfriend, I don't care if Busta Rhymes or NWA get a penny from what I just bought, why should I?? It's the record companies' job to get them the royalties, not mine. The same applies if I buy a Kent cd or a Goldmine cd - they have my money, give me my cd, end of story. If you want to follow the trail of where the money goes then thats great, but you are in a minority and this must surely be the only music scene in the world where this kind of thing goes on, fans being sniped at for not trying to find out if the artist is getting royalties for 40 year old tunes - and it appears, expected to find out. Yeah right.
  18. What's up with that???
  19. I've done it a few times - someone's made an offer so I've taken it.
  20. Jeez, you must have been strong that was before he was known as 'the pieman' of course
  21. I've actually got that book! Took a long time to find it though. Worth it for the scans.
  22. And if you belive that.....
  23. Bonnie Herman is a brilliant record, Annabelle Fox - what a production and arrangement, Helen Shapiro is now a very well respected jazz singer and her 2 northern records are both excellent. If it's a decent record it could be by Ken Dodd for all I care. They are just names on labels.
  24. I don't get it
  25. I was offered £800 for it Mark. Trouble is, I gave it to my mate John for what I paid for it. Mainly because he's left me his records in his will but also because it was the best home for it and I'd have only sold it anyway.
