  1. He's on his hols but I'm positive he did - long time ago. Micks was Searlings old copy
  2. Mick sold his to Tim Brown
  3. Burdicks is the best version of Faith - fact. How can anyone do a better version of Open The Door than darrell banks?
  4. I think there are more Milton James than that - Nancy had it, Manship had it, Tim Brown has got it I think, someone put it on tape for me many years ago off the record so they had it...
  5. You mean No One Else Can Take Your Place I think mate...Your Wish Is My Command is pretty common
  6. Lynn White???
  7. That's about 7 or 8 copies now...
  8. Cheers Billy, your cheque is in the post. The others have been laughing at me again for saying this is a great record, sort 'em out!
  9. I'd never in a million years say that Doni Burdick was a better singer than Edwin Starr, but like I said, the arrangement, production and vocal nuances in the Burdick version are far better than Edwins...for instance, the first line "I was told the other day, go on and leave you", the intonation is far better one one more than it is the other...it's like I was reading this nobhead writing about the classical influences on Beatles tracks and he pointed out that certain chord changes affect your brain differently to others so if for instance someone sings a note going up as opposed to down, that would register more positively with you. Which basically means, on certain bits, Burdick sings these up notes while Edwin sings them downwards and I have to say hand on heart, Burdick puts a lot more into his vocal than Edwin does on this particular...listen to the part "I said don't say it any more, cos I feel like I did before", the one showing the emotion is Doni not Edwin.
  10. I really don't get this. Why would anyone pay £500 for the Steinways? I sold one about 6 weeks ago for £100 or £125, it cannot possibly be worth more than £150. Why don't I get customers like that!
  11. I like the Carmel Strings AND Don Gardner but the Linda Perry's of this world leave me cold and you just don't get the rush with that type of music that you do with 60's 4-4 beat Northern...s'all n.b. towanda & total destruction is one of my all time favourite records and I have a copy but I'd not want to hear it played out
  12. I almost agree...I'd put that one second after Doni Burdick
  13. Well someone had better point them out then because I don't want to go to Goodyears and hear Little Queenie and Breakout, but I definitely don't want to hear 70's, so I'm after a rarer oldies/newies night I suppose. Oh and one that plays rocksteady as well
  14. Absolutely true, but more disturbing is the fact that anyone of the opposite viewpoint is either shouted down or made to feel that they cannot post because of the verbal bashing they will get. It's only a bloody message board for goodness sake, you should be able to say whatever you want without worrying about what anyone else thinks. John, you say in another thread you enjoy crossover, I immediately put up a post saying I think it's utter rubbish, but SO WHAT, that's what a forum is. However I await incoming telling me I am a cloth eared twat.
  15. I'm not saying it's not soul music John cos it obviously is but to travel somewhere and be faced with that crap is not what I was planning on doing
  16. Or because it was second rate B side fodder which only resurfaced because a bunch of elitists decided it was the new thing. How anyone into 'Northern Soul' can praise crossover but slag off R&B really needs help. We've had some crap thrust upon us over the last 30 years or so but nothing so apalling as crossover, come back Muriel Day all is forgiven (and if that doesn't stir it up nothing will )
  17. And there was me planning to start going out more in 2005. Cancel that then....
  18. Well this is splitting everyone down the middle. I prefer the Doni Burdick version because he sings the song better than Edwin does - I don't mean his actual voice, I mean the way he fits the words to the tune. The Edwin version has the voice mixed way too low and the Burdick version has an extremely powerful mix. But hey here we go again, how can anyone possibly prefer a 'white' version over a 'black' one without people telling you you're out of order
  19. It's on the other side of Bari Track on Sound Impression - also came out again on Sound Patterns with Open The Door To Your Heart on the flip. I sold my Bari Track in 1994 for £75, I heard manship auctioned one for £800 but I'd have said £400. By the way, I think Burdicks version is ten times better than Edwins, nobody else does...
  20. I think that's LP only so probably not
  21. Same answer as with most of them - it wasn't bought at the time, radio didn't play it, badly promoted. But the mystery with this particular record is - the issues are relatively common - I've had 4 or 5 - but the demos are absolutely mega rare, probably less than 10 known Philips demos, nobody seems to know why.
  22. Yeah I do know that now. I also know a couple of other things I am not allowed to mention.
  23. It was one minute long. What's the problem with letting people hear how a song goes? How do you know who is the source of any recording? What the f*** is going on here Mike?
