  1. I quite like Sophie, she's got a great voice - different to most - as a pop singer I mean.
  2. Yes, that is utter crap!
  3. Yes that's right, I'm the man in the know, my first choice would be Murder On The Dancefloor by Sophie Ellis Bexter, it's got that modern 'groove' to it which we all love so much. Steps were a much underrated 90's band who cut some good dance tunes, most of which are deleted now but cd singles occasionally turn up. Top of the heap has to be "I lost my heart to a trout lipped suitor" by Ali N and the Tasteless Wilderbeests (cd only). 90's soul
  4. Yeah probably never hear that get played again, I like it but only because it reminds me of the 'early days' and our youth club where it was played off an emidisc...Catacombs monster
  5. I've never known it to be popular or ever heard it played. The first I ever heard of it was way back in about 1976 when John Manship had it on one of his UK lists and referred to it as a Torch spin. A lot of records get started that way...
  6. Glad I missed out when that Lucky Charms was being played...have to say I have a soft spot for The Jewels myself, reminds me of some of best ever nights at Wigan at a time when I could keep up with it easily, although as a record it's a bit of a row. Keith made a few good pop records and there's a good beat ballad on the B side of one of his UK mercury singles. Finally Main Change, never heard this out but it's irritatingly catchy, shame about the bit in the middle.
  7. None taken, sorry, thought you were being funny sarcastic so I was being the same back FOR A CHANGE
  8. Ooh-er - I like both of those. Samantha Jones is out and out pop but what a fantastic, catchy song, can't believe it didn't chart.
  9. I never even heard of that...was meant to be records that were once massive - sorry if I missed out on that one
  10. Tim Tam - Wait a minute
  11. Sorry I know this has been done before but I couldn't find it - this guy on ebay selling this record here https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...4713646066&rd=1 well he has it on a gold label yet I sold one about 18 months ago on a blue label with silver lettering. I bought it off my mate for £20 blind and sold it for, I dunno, £100 I think. I'd never heard of it. Definitely blue and credited to the Singing Swinging Counts. Is this gold one real?
  12. Records that were once massive but no one would dare play out today because they are so terrible. I'll start: THE CHERRY PEOPLE - AND SUDDENLY
  13. I just bought a little batch of them blind. The most interesting was probably Can't stop running away by Timi Yuro - same take as the record that was released but a good 20 seconds longer, continuing til the band stopped playing. There's one by Jimmy Williams but it's just a songwriter demo and has hardly any accompaniment. I'll see what else I can find though.
  14. Don't know the history, just came with a few I bought, has the lyrics with it as well...like I said, I'm not really interested if it's not Northern but thought others might like to hear it - thanks for the feedback chaps
  15. What's anyone think...grows on you I think...quite nice
  16. Again this isn't a northern soul track, just a good 60's female vocal once it gets going. Written by Johnny Northern/Ralph Bailey/Rudy Clark and called Am I Ever Gonna See My Baby Again. It's on a one sided 10" acetate on the TM MUsic Inc label (1619 Broadway)...
  17. Possibly unreleased, I don't know, it's a 10" one sided acetate on the Flomar Music Ltd label, "All sold out" - it's not Northern, it's just a nice 60' s soul track with a very good female vocal. Writers Ashford/Simpson/Monic. Had this lying around doing nothing so thought you lot might like to hear it.
  18. Alright then, *some* Kent lp's...Hot Chills Cold Thrills springs to mind, that one with Too Old To Cry, forgot the title, etc.
  19. Get off my f*cking thread
  20. Yeah but Soul Joe Clements is utter rubbish!!!
  21. I think I did 3 big articles for the magazine and worked on 3 of the price guides..
  22. Yes, they do it's the inability to play them that makes them good
  23. No they're not just oldies, they're modern oldies, or modern northern oldies, as opposed to northern oldies, which are older-oldies than modern northern oldies, right?
  24. Yeah but it's true!
