  1. and all rubbish...
  2. What happens if you're not a dj, are they still ok?
  3. nice one. I only kept asking because I'd never heard of it before Mr Floods Party and I'm pretty up on 60's hits - was it a vocal or just an instrumental??
  4. No I just said, I got to northern do's. can't you read or sommat? By the way 'Catskill' with your massive total of 19 of your posts, you want to look around the site a bit before you start making with the snide comments, it's a f*cking discussion board and thats what we do, you know, like people have different opinions and we discuss them?
  5. I don't believe in Across The Board nights - it's either Northern or Modern. I would not want to hear one single modern record at any venue I went to so I'd choose accordingly. In fact I'd ban across the board nights and tell them to make their f*cking minds up
  6. The size of the run out is the main clue, it's about an 3/4 inch wide on the pressing, but another way of telling which the great experts never tell you is when you play it, after the organ intro and the drum roll, the horns come in but only in one channel, they get turned up really quickly in the other channel and you can really notice it. Also I don't think the original has that dip towards the centre.
  7. What position did they get to in the charts??
  8. What do you call massive?
  9. I think the Tony Hester price is ambitious - no offence - I couldn't get £175 for the white demo 2 months ago
  10. Yeah they call it the "Island Music" scene - equivalent to our beat ballads, and sharing many of the same records..one big one is Sonny Childe - Giving up on love...plus things like Brad Lundy - I'm at the breaking point
  11. You spelt Dobie Gray wrong
  12. I've now got a good source for Jamaican stuff from a pretty unlikely place to be honest (in the States), every time I order from them, which has been 3 so far, I've had a copy of Phillip James for $5. And that ken Lazarus "The record" - four copies now, $5 each. Reason being, Wide Awake was a big hit in Jamaica so no reason for it to be hard to find in that format. The Glenn Miller situation is ridiculous. As you know, I collected Doctor Bird for ages and there are far rarer records on the label like The Skatalites/Jack Sparrow, both Johnny & The Attractions (though there's been 4 copies of I'm Movin On on Ebay in 3 months) etc etc. And theres areally great northern track by Patsy which I must send up if I can find it.
  13. I think I asked £100 for mine. I can guarantee if I'd asked £300 it would still be here
  14. This will go at the top of my Christmas Present wish list
  15. Bloody hell you're right, what a good memory you have - what a great record that was, even though I've now forgotten how it goes. It was by The First Generation on High Note, called either Give Him Up or Give It Up, B side of a Dave Barker track. Who be you then Exustrek?
  16. I quite fancy this tea dance idea
  17. That's it, just kill the thread
  18. Yeah that is Jackie & Millie, again on Island but for some reason it turned up on the Millie & Her Boyfriends album on Trojan...storming instrumental...I think it's actually by The Sound System who were Owen Gray's backing band. I've still got that on single but it's so scratched you can barely hear the music
  19. >>>Wide Awake<<< this might be it
  20. I've played it out and had people coming to look at it/ask what it was. It's no newie though - I first got it in 1973 on the Lp Independent Jamaica and I reviewed it in a mag about 8 years ago. Sold my near mint Island one recently n.b. I sent a sound file of this up about 2 months back, it might still be lurking around the site somewhere
  21. I don't like anything he's done
  22. I'm not surprised, it's only worth £75
  23. Come out of the closet
