Repro's & Re - Issues.. Who Gets The Money?
Pete S replied to Harrogatesoul's topic in All About the SOUL
It was 100% definitely the tracks, I don't object to paying whatever they are charging but I just didn't know most of the stuff that got released, thats the honest answer. Also I wasn't too happy with them releasing the wrong take of The Springers! -
Yeah it's pretty easy on UK Liberty - never seen one that hadn't got a large centre hole though
-
Amazes me some records just never, ever turn up, but are still only listed at like £15 or £20...one I'm thinking of in particular is the US issue of Fifth Dimension - Train keep moving, on Soul City. I've only ever had this record once in 30 years of collecting!
-
I should have stated the obvious as well, all those records listed there are actually for sale, cd/mp3 or not

Repro's & Re - Issues.. Who Gets The Money?
Pete S replied to Harrogatesoul's topic in All About the SOUL
You already do and we already do! I must have bought them all. Having said that, I've only ever bought 2 on Grapevine so I guess you have to be careful what you pick to issue. -
Right this is my latest brainwave I have done a sales cd containing 80 tracks - one minute or thereabouts of each track. Now I don't want to have to charge people for these but by the same token I don't want to send out hundreds and pay for post and packing and get no sales..so I have come up with this idea. Below you will see a list of the 80 tracks on the first sales cd. What you have to do is, if you want to hear any of the tracks, note down the number and send your requests (just the numbers will do) to me at pete.smith@freeuk.com I will then reduce the files in size and send them you as mp3 files. This means I don't have to do any post and packing and you can get the track delivered to you almost instantly. The only restriction I would put on this is that I would appreciate people no asking for more than 20 tracks. If you want more than 20, I'll send you the whole disc but you'll have to pay me a quid via paypal - which I will refund on any sales. So I hope this is clear, have a look at the list, email me with whatever you want to hear, I'll email you the clips and then if you like anything, I'll tell you the price and condition. Right, here's the contents of disc 1. PLEASE EMAIL ME DIRECTLY, DON'T SEND ME PM'S VIA SOUL SOURCE OK AND DON'T USE THE PETESMITHRECORDS@HOTMAIL.COM ADDRESS, ONLY USE THIS ONE pete.smith@freeuk.com 1 BUDDY HOTTINGER - I NEED YOUR LOVING - TANYA 2 JIMMY ELLEDGE - SAD TOWN - SOUND TOWN DJ 3 GOODY COLBERT - BABY I LIKE IT - REVUE 4 BIG MAYBELLE - LET ME GO - PORT 5 THE EPSILONS - I'M SO DEVOTED - SHRINE 6 ALDER RAY - MY HEART IS IN DANGER - MINIT DJ 7 JUNE ADAMS - RIVER KEEP MOVING - KING (UK) 8 PATTI AUSTIN - HE'S GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME - CORAL DJ 9 P.W. Repro's & Re - Issues.. Who Gets The Money?
Pete S replied to Harrogatesoul's topic in All About the SOUL
Has he got any more of those Clockwork Orange thingies for sale? -
I don't think you are taking my opinions very seriously Mr White
-
Again it comes down to personal taste: I'd take Tears Of Joy or I'll Hold You over any of these Philly records.
-
...probably because it was a tired and worn out formula by then
-
Don't get that last comment but...it is a beat ballad

Repro's & Re - Issues.. Who Gets The Money?
Pete S replied to Harrogatesoul's topic in All About the SOUL
Good work Sherlock, what gave it away in the end -
In hindsight then, maybe this Philly stuff is acceptable, despite it being chart fodder and top of the pops material which 30 years ago you would have all disowned and slagged off anyone who liked it. In context: pleasant soul music, in northern soul context, waste of good vinyl
-
Shame, they would have probably gone down well there
-
Well good for them playing a five year old top 10 chart record...
-
I'll take that as a compliment
-
We used to go to discos in the early 70's and the music played there was called disco music, that includes all your old Motown and Atlantic records...
-
Well obviously, they weren't released in the UK
-
Now you really are pulling our legs Name a Philly single better than I'm Lonely or Peace Loving Man or Sweet Lies or Love Is The Only Solution for a start.
-
It's a "Rare and Northern Soul Forum", not a mainstream-chart-disco forum, so if people don't like mainstream-chart-disco records as much as Northern, don't be surprised! What do you lot think of Disco Tex & His Sexolettes, or The Hustle, or Andrea True Connection then, are they the epitome of sophistcated soul music made by geniuses as well?
-
Alright, on my right I've got a pile of ten singles on Thelma, on my left I've got a pile of ten singles on Philly Int. Which one do you choose? If it's the one on the left, you are in the wrong place. The mainstream soul forum is elsewhere.

No, thats shit
