  1. It had a huge budget as it came out of a major studio you silly sod. You just think The Temptations are some kind of gods. They were nothing special.
  2. The Five Heartbeats is the best of the lot...
  3. No it was just so it wasn't directed at any one person in particular. What makes me laugh is that people profess to enjoy records made from the 70's onwards which use fairlights, synthesized drums and so on, the antithesis of what soul is (i.e. it is artifically manufactured) yet an authentic sounding soul track comes along with no modern gimmicks, and it's slagged off. Whcih just goes to prove my point. You all smell.
  4. Shame you have to analyse something all the time and can't just enjoy it! (applies to everyone)
  5. yes that's the second part
  6. So who was the geniuos who said that NORTHERN soul is only about the vocals??? He needs a history lesson and a kick in the nads.
  7. Didn't download it because if it's "Where is he" I've heard it hundreds of times, but don't you think, for three vocalists they have the weakest voices ever put onto record?? Diplomats daughters apparently, probably wangled a record contract somehow. It's a quirky little record but those vocals...
  8. I love them too but any more than 3 in a row and I'd go nuts. My all time favourites are: bari track frantic escape exus trek the champion don't pretend (version with the strings) sister lee instrumental
  9. Reminds me of being a very young child, my Mum had this by Billy Fury and it was and still is brilliant
  10. Either the Torch or the Catacombs. Probably. I've got it on a tape from the Cats.
  11. Both of them are hideous beyond description.
  12. Simon you look very butch in that lovely t shirt
  13. What's 'rare' got to do with anything - it doesn't have to be rare to be good...and this is a blinding northern soul record....and it's only a pastiche in as much as every 60's soul dancer is a pastiche of a Motown record. Or something.
  14. Sorry John I've realised since baby came along that there are lots more important things in life than records, like chickens for instance, so don't take me too seriously unless I'm slagging off modern soul. Having said that, I still think the Len Barry versions aren't that great. But on a similar theme: John Madara must surely have produced Will You Still Love me by Bunny Sigler on decca - WHAT A VERSION THAT IS!!!
  15. I heard this played out by dave Rimmer and it sounded fantastic, i thought it was a 60's record
  16. Thanks chaps but I think I'll just post it in freebasing instead, I rigged up my decks straight into the cd recorder last night and did some tremendous beer-fuelled ska sets which some people might like a listen to...or not
  17. No it's to give an honest opinion, which I did, apart from you two clowns I doubt anyone thinks this version is better than Dean Courtney's, and as for the version of Love Love Love, it sounds unfinished so to compare it to the Bobby Hebb version is like comparing a chicken to another chicken which isn't quite as good as the first chicken.
  18. You know, the 6 packs and so on...not showing up on my menu...got a few things I want to send up if poss
  19. Please forgive me. I was wrong, it's f*cking brilliant, best record I've heard in my life from the best artist I've ever heard and played by the best dj I've ever heard play a set.
  20. Dale Warren became Gene Dozier's milkman
  21. Hello John what a load of utter bollocks, it's a poor mans version of Dean Courtney and always has been. Played relentlessly at the casino by both Russ and Richard in 77 and refused to take off. Lacks the punch, lacks the fantastic orchestral backing (in fact the backing track to Courtneys version would have made one of the greatest n.s. instrumentals ever) and I am pretty sure you're just hyping this because of the rarity of the LP. I'm sure Kev Roberts told me he got a tape off John Madara featuring Len Barry doing Caswell's Y.D.L.M.A.
  22. Firstly, whoever mastered the UK Soul City version of Walter & Admirations f*cked it up so bad it's not worth listening to - listen to the record start off at the wrong speed then get faster! As for mould - best thing is good old soap and water - soak it for 5 mins in warm water then I use liquid soap for a wipe round, then swill it off with cold water.
  23. I've got that issue mate. I remember the Edward Hamilton being released, it was about 78, just don't remember there being any interest in Clifford Binns til Stafford, hence me thinkingit was an 80's release
