PETE SMITH 28 JENKS ROAD WOMBOURNE WOLVERHAMPTON WV5 0BL 01902 893569 Pete.smith@freeuk.com HI, DECIDED NOT TO WAIT UNTIL THE REST OF THE STUFF I'M WAITING FOR ARRIVES, I'LL LIST THOSE NEXT WEEK...MEANWHILE HERE'S A LIST CONTAINING NORTHERN ORIGINALS, A FEW REDUCED BITS AND A VG+ SECTION. CHEERS PETE P.S. COULD I ASK FOR NO PHONE CALLS AFTER 7.30PM PLEASE, WAKES THE BABY, THANKS ***NORTHERN SOUL ORIGINALS*** TOWANDA BARNES - IF I'M GUILTY - GROOVY EX 25 GENE CHANDLER - I CAN TAKE CARE OF MYSELF - CONSTELLATION M- 25 CANDY & THE KISSES - OUT ON THE STREETS AGAIN - SCEPTER EX- 40 Nice red label demo. Some minor marks, otherwise superb THE DRIFTERS - YOU GOTTA PAY YOUR DUES - ATLANTIC DEMO M- 75 Stunning copy - best I've ever seen SOLD THE DEL VIKINGS - CONFESSION OF LOVE - ABC DEMO EX 75 NATE EVANS & MEAN GREEN - THIS TIME WITH FEELING - DPR EX- 35 SOLD TINA FLORENCE - TOO MUCH FOR ME BABY - APT DEMO M- 50 THE 5TH DIMENSION - TRAIN KEEP ON MOVIN' - SOUL CITY M 50 I'm not kidding, I've had more copies of things like Dean Courtney and Adams Apples than I've had of this. Maybe it's just me. One demo and one issue in the last 10 years. GLORIA GAYNOR - SHE'LL BE SORRY - JOCIDA EX 15 Want a cheap, lesser played but brilliant oldie? Try this one. EARL GRANT - HIDE NOR HAIR - DECCA M- 30 Nice little touch, this comes with an original juke box slip and company sleeve EDDIE HOLMAN - EDDIE'S MY NAME - PARKWAY EX 30 EDDIE HOLLAND - IF CLEOPATRA TOOK A CHANCE - MOTOWN EX 15 IRMA & THE FASCINATORS - LOST LOVE - SCEPTER DEMO EX- 25 Again has marks but plays perfectly BRENDA LEE JONES - YOU'RE THE LOVE OF MY LIFE - RUST DEMO EX- 50 Has a tiny bit of crackle from a seemingly invisible source at the start (I'll put it through the electro magnetic cleaner, that usually gets rid of it!) but otherwise EX+. This is the tougher all-white DJ copy not the usual coloured one. HANK JACOBS - ELIJAH ROCKIN' WITH SOUL - CALL ME DEMO EX 150 White demo - absolutely stunning! Never seen one of these before let alone had one! BOBBY KING - WASTED - FEDERAL M- 25 Might be a too rock'n'roll for some but a good r&b sound LIZ LANDS - MIDNIGHT JOHNNY - GORDY EX- 50 SOLD Some slight play wear but this a really nice bargain for someone LITTLE TOMMY - LOV'H - SOUND OF SOUL DEMO M- 20 An absolute stormer and just as good as his biggie BONNIE MILLER - WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO TO ME - ASTRO EX 30 Totally forgotten oldie - if nothing else it wins the award for the best looking label! THE MAGNIFICENTS - MY HEART IS CALLING - DEE GEE M- 100 Super copy with On Main Street on the B side GARNET MIMMS - PROVE IT TO ME - UNITED ARTISTS EX+ 20 Underrated stormer JACKYE OWENS - YOU'RE DOING SOMETHING AWFULLY GOOD - GROOVY EX- 30 GARLAND OWENS - FOOD OF LOVE - LEGRAND DEMO EX 25 ESTHER PHILLIPS - JUST SAY GOODBYE - ATLANTIC EX- 60 Plays EX PATTI PAGE - YOU DON'T NEED A HEART - COLUMBIA DEMO M- 60 RUBY & THE ROMANTICS - DOES HE REALLY CARE FOR ME - KAPP EX 30 SOLD If you like girl groups that sound like they were produced by Phil Spector you'll love this brilliant midtempo sound...fabulous! RAY & DAVE - WRONG WRONG WRONG - MICA EX 75 SOLD Brilliant THE RADIANTS - THE CLOWN IS CLEVER / DON'T TAKE YOUR LOVE - CHESS DEMO EX- 20 Good double sider SOUL BROTHERS SIX - I'LL BE LOVING YOU - ATLANTIC EX- 30 THE SHOWSTOPPERS - AIN'T NOTHIN' BUT A HOUSEPARTY - HERITAGE DEMO M- 15 Only included this as it's a pristine demo JOE SIMON - I GOT A WHOLE LOT OF LOVIN' - SOUND STAGE 7 EX 10 THE SAPPHIRES - THE SLOW FIZZ - ABC DEMO EX/EX- 30 SOLD Nice demo ELSIE STRONG - GIRL RATED TRIPLE X - LEGRAND M 20 Not sure if this is a forgotten oldie as it's hardly ever been played anywhere - nice though TAMMI TERRELL - THIS OLD HEART OF MINE - MOTOWN EX 15 THE UPTOWNS - WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN - SHANGRI LA EX- 25 I'm presuming this is an unknown - male group, Mann/Weil composition, typical early 60's Stand By Me rhythm. It's pretty sparse though til towards the end and despite being credited to a group, there's only one vocalist on the record. Anyway, a bit of a curiosity I guess. GINO WASHINGTON - LIKE MY BABY / I'LL BE AROUND - MALA DEMO EX 80 Awesome classic...has 'play' written on the Like My Baby side TINY WATKINS - TORTURING LOVER - TEIA EX 25 MILTON WRIGHT - THE GALLOP - CARLA VG 60 Saw this on Ebay and thought to myself...every copy of this I've ever seen has been a white demo..this one's a stock copy. Has a little scratch on it causing a click unfortunately..damn! ***RECORDS REDUCED FROM LAST WEEK*** BONNIE BRISKER - SO MUCH LOVIN' (DEEP INSIDE OF ME) - MAGIC CITY EX- 75 Rare and excellent Detroit stormer HENRY STROGIN - MISERY - HANK EX 20 TOMMY NEAL - GOIN' TO A HAPPENING - VAULT EX 40 SOLD I see more of the Pameline copies than I do of this one! RAY POLLARD - IT'S A SAD THING - UNITED ARTISTS EX 80 Few very light marks plays practically mint BIG DEE IRWIN - YOU SATISFY MY NEEDS - ROTATE DEMO VG+ 60 SOLD The intro is VG+ the rest plays EX Kinnell, can't do 'em any cheaper than that! The following are all around the VG+ condition. Basically, they will all play well but have visual marks and scratches and play with a small amount of noise, crackle, the occasional click etc. Buy with confidence though, these are not trashed records, and they are priced at around half the current going rates. THE ASTORS - IN THE TWILIGHT ZONE - STAX 20 ANTHONY & THE IMPERIALS - IT'S NOT THE SAME - VEEP 15 POOKIE HUDSON - THIS GETS TO ME - JAMIE DEMO 75 SOLD If you look very carefully there's a tiny crack near the edge - it plays through this without a sound but does have the rest of the VG+ characteristics...if that make sense. If you're DJing with this you'll have no problems at all. SONNY KNIGHT - ANGEL LOVE - WORLD PACIFIC DEMO 15 PATTY LABELLE - FAMILY MAN - ATLANTIC DEMO 10 JOHNNY NASH - TOWN OF LONELY HEARTS - GROOVE 20 THE ORLONS - KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF MY BABY - ABC DEMO 10 BOBBY PATTERSON - SOCK SOME LOVIN' AT ME - JETSTAR DEMO 15 A great underrated dancer on yellow vinyl demo WILSON PICKETT - LET ME BE YOUR BOY - VERVE DEMO 20 SOLD There's not actually much wrong with the vinyl of this, but it has a sticker stain over the title (might come off with lighter fuel or similar) and at the bottom of the label is the remnants of a masking tape sticker which looks pretty ugly. It would probably come off if soaked in something! PORGY & THE MONARCHS - THAT GIRL - MUSICOR 30 SOLD That Girl is for the most, excellent, with some tiny noise at some of the high notes. The B side, however, is useless, so it's being sold as a one sided record. I take all credit cards and the postage rates are below Postage... 1 x 7" = £1.50 (20p each extra) Recorded delivery add 70p. Special delivery £5. Europe 1 x 7" = £2 Elsewhere 1 x 7" = £2.50 I TAKE ALL CREDIT CARDS. PAYPAL IS OK IF YOU PAY THE 4% CHARGE.

You're missing the point that you've got ten times more chance of selling it if you mention the side that it's actually collected for
-
100 - 125 is a fair price for this - same with John Bowie
-
That Eddie Foster looks good to me but according to John Manships pressings book "original matrix read IN - 6311 "I NEVER KNEW" - counterfeit reads IN 6311A
-
Mike that acetate of Thumb A Ride is definitely Simon Soussan/Soul Fox Strings, but it's not a version that was ever released. Completely different to any I ever heard before.
-
Kinnel Sean, elsewhere in this post I said I had 2 copies of the human beinz and I'd give you one for nothing...
-
No sorry John you are wrong this time, if that was the case, that Walter & Admirations would have sold for 10 quid last month, that sold because of 1) rarity, 2) demand and then 3) condition. I don't know what it is about this forum but every time you and I meet up or speak on the phone we always seem to get along like a house on fire yet on here it's pistols at dawn all the time!
-
You're making a show of yourself trying to be clever. Nobody has got QUANTITY of them but they regularly sell on Ebay for between 500 and 1000 dollars and have done in the 6 or 7 years I've been using Ebay. 500 would be a below average condition copy but it's a fact. A copy will turn up almost every month. That does not make it a rare record. That Mr Lucky record I sold for 2500 earlier this year, whats that, a five known copy record? Yet the Cashmeres is worth only 500 quid less despite their being a couple of hundred copies in the UK? Now you've got Chalky also telling you it's not that rare so try taking the piss out of him.
-
They do. I buy and sell records every day of every year. Despite what you may think, I do know what I'm talking about some of the time.
-
It's the other side...
-
Nobodys saying they've got them at 500, I said I wouldn't pay more than 500 because of the amount of copies there are around and also because I don't want to pay more than 500. If you think 1900 quid is a bargain then you've obviously got more money than sense.
-
You can be 100% sure if it's got that delta number.
-
I Can Take Care Of Myself is still my favourite especially as it's one of those records you can have a really good singalong to whilst doing mundane household chores like hoovering the dog.
-
Not good enough is it. Well it didn't make his reserve anyway.
-
I know what you mean but I'm still not really hearing it that way!
-
Well I've asked him whats in the run off so see if he replies. Wonder if any of our mates in Australia know the seller?
-
Well most - not all, but most - originals of this are on styrene, and that one isn't - it looks like the boot. The styrene ones are from Monarch in L.A. so they have a delta number not a bell Sound stamp.
-
Looks a bit like the reissue to me, look at the edges of the label, quite rough in parts...what does anyone else reckon? https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/The-Yum-Yums-Gonna-B...1QQcmdZViewItem
-
I can't hear any funk in Broadway Cissy at all...which bit?? The drum break in the middle?
-
That one also sprung off the page as it regularly goes on ebay for between 500 and 1000 dollars...f*cking great record though, don't think I'd pay more than 500 quid for it
-
Nobody mentioned Flower Shoppe - You've Come A Long Way Baby, which was the second biggest record on the label northern wise. The biggest was undoubtedly My Man A Sweet Man by Millie Jackson. There's a nice double sider by Little Eva Harris, Get Ready / Mr. Everything.

Just wanted to mention something, I post a list on here maybe once a week, I get asked for records most days after the list is posted but basically, it goes out to my mailing list either the day before or a few hours before it goes up on here, so while this might sound like a shameless plug for people to join the mailing list to get the lists early (just email me or pm me and I'll sign you up), it's also to ask people not to be arsey with me when I tell them I sold the records 2 weeks earlier like someone was yesterday! Sometimes I haven't got time to keep going back and writing 'sold' next to things, as far as I'm concerned, a list only lasts for one day and anything unsold gets reduced next time. Anyway next weeks list has, among others: pookie hudson, soul bros 6, earl grant, astors, tina florence, gino washington, dena barnes, wilson pickett, eddie holman, 5th dimension, porgy & monarchs, tiny watkins, sapphires, del vikings, magnificents, esther phillips, drifters, milton wright, ray & dave, hank jacobs wd, and whatever else arrives...

OK what happened was, the week before last in the HMV sale they had these funk double cd's for 4.99 each so I bought all 4 volumes, and I realised after about 3 tracks it was just sailing over my head apart from the ones I already knew so it's just a case of either getting it or not getting it. They all sounded the same, which is what a lot of people say about reggae. Of course I know they are not all shit, it's just a stock answer. I used to love some of the funky northern sounds like Wrong Crowd, My Hang Up Is You and so on.
