  1. Oh don't be soft, they are two completely different songs, and Sue Lynne is pretty average anyway
  2. I've got this annoying problem and it's been happening for years and I'd welcome any suggestions as to how to go about solving it. The problem is as follows. I put a list out at say 10am on a monday morning. At 10.15, someone emails me and says "have you got the ray pollard record" so I email back saying yes I have, please let me know if you want it. I hear nothing from the person who emailed me and meanwhile 3 other people have asked about the same record. Usually I give it an hour and then offer it to the next person. Right, there's a second version of this and it's exactly the same except in their original email, they say "have you got the ray pollard record, if so please reserve it", so I email back saying I have got it and I have reserved it. I then hear nothing else. They never bother to pay for it and meanwhile I have to put people off because it's reserved for someone. This is something I should have resolved years ago but I don't know how to get round it. Should I say "If you email me to ask about a record, I will take that as a definite order and charge your card"? What if I haven't got their card details? Should I tell everyone that I will not accept any orders unless they are accompanied with either permission to charge their card, or their actual card details? Or maybe only accept orders over the phone? I've got records here I pulled for people on monday and they haven't bothered to get back in touch, even if just to cancel the order. So I now have to chase the second person who ordered to see if they still want it. I realise that this is not a major problem in worldwide terms but it's f*cking annoying. Any ideas on how to get together a method that actually works? (Oh, and why do people order records when they have no intention of buying them?)
  3. Which is what it's all about as far as I'm concerned. I just like a record on it's merit without having to do an authenticity check on the artist.
  4. Probably because I heard the inst first. Same as Exus Trek v If Its All The Same To You Babe. Instrumental is miles better.
  5. Stand back and look at it though, their MGM records (2 of them) aren't worth any more than £25 each.
  6. No offence Tony but the instrumental was 100 times better than the vocal. One of the last records I heard at a nighter that actually gave me the shivers when I heard it. When I heard the vocal I thought it actually deflected from the brilliance of the instrumental. I am probably alone in this view. But well done for finding it like.
  7. How do they get the prices? I don't think I could get 50 quid for mine 3 months ago!
  8. The words are in fact Northern Soul. Not pop. The Joannie Sommers record is as good and in fact better than most northern soul records. About number 10 in the best singles ever in my opinion. Susan Rafey's version of Hurt So Bad is absolutely stunning as well.
  9. Does it look the same now?? If so, you're a lucky man
  10. Fantastic mate. I posted up that instrumental before and was told it was terrible. Whats wrong with these people!
  11. I'd guess that photo was taken later than 69. Skinhead clothes but hair grown out. 70-71?
  12. I dug this out for Chris Lalor recently and stuck it on a cd so the tape is probably still in this room somewhere, if nobody else sends it in I'll do it
  13. Ah thats it. Cheers. Been trying to do the same thing in ms publisher and it won't cut circles!
  14. Ain't No Mountain High Enough (w. Tammi Terrell) I still think this is the most uplifting record I've ever heard. Absolute genius.
  15. This is a picture I did for a cd I made. If anyone can tell me the program I used to enable me to cut out circular labels and lay them over each other I'd be very grateful as I have absolutely no idea how I did it! (It's in the ska topic cos it's ska labels)
  16. Enjoyed that article. I've got a few interesting covers on Hit. Everybody knows Jenny & The Jewels and betty Wrigley but there's loads more. I got a version of Green Onions the other day (and have lost it already so can't name the group)
  17. Blake, Kent did a compilation of stuff from Spar and related labels so if you can find a copy, I'm sure the booklet will reveal all. It's definitely related to the budget Hit label, and they had sleeves, so Spar should have to I reckon.
  18. Really??? No wonder I don't get jazz!
  19. Here's the second two
  20. Am going to send up a few clips of Busters All Stars instrumentals. 1) Jet 707 - this probably features the best soloing on any ska instrumental, it's unbelievable. 2) Vera Cruz - This is nearly as good except at around the 2 minute mark, they all apear to play out of tune on purpose! See if you agree. 3) Rhyging - names after the outlaw that the film the Harder They Come Was based on, this is a lesser known instrumental but great all the same 4) The Fugitive - obviously inspired by the TV program...forgot I had this to be honest so enjoy!
  21. It's on a yellow Jameco label but not seen a yellow Carrie one
  22. I've never heard of 6 either but apparently it's a classic
  23. Mark if you are still on the site could you ring me urgently 01902 893569 thanks pete
  24. This is the best explanation so far. One freak auction result and the price quadruples. This applies to more or less anything! I'm used to selling Tobi Legend for 100, 125 quid - now it's over 300 apparently
  25. 5 is CC - Everythings Wrong and 8 is B Hambric - She Said Goodbye but 4 and 6 are atrocious and I never want to hear them again
