  1. Okay that'll do I think, unless anyone wants more I ought to go and spend a bit of time with the baby
  2. MONTY MORRIS - SAY WHAT YOU SAY - PAMA As mentioned by Tone earlier - what a scorcher this is - I think CN Express is even better than this maybe..I need a copy of that, sold mine (about 3 times!)
  3. Tony keep these comments coming because I'm learning loads. You know too much! I have both King Of Kings and Tears In Your Eyes, and it never clicked that they were the same backing track as I hadn't played the Monty Morris track for years! Obviously as soon as I played it I recognised it. Going to the top of my charts that is PETER TOUCH - I AM THE TOUGHEST - ISLAND A great bragging rude boy tune by Peter Tosh and The Wailers
  4. 9) LYNN TAIT (& VAL BENNETT) - WAY OF LIFE - BLUE CAT A truly magnificent instrumental. I've done well to hang on to this for so many years, when the going has got tough I've had to sell practically everything but this one will never be going anywhere! Hard to believe that a true genius of the sax like Val Bennett died in poverty.
  5. 8) (I think) DELROY WILSON - TROUBLED MAN - COXSONE An excellent lesser known (to me!) Delroy Wilson, what a singer this guy was
  6. 8) THE UNIQUES - OUT OF LOVE - TROJAN Simply breathtaking soulful reggae tune, what a vocal performance by Slim Smith. I have a jamaican copy of this which is about 20 seconds longer but couldn't find it! Yeah that's a fantastic tune (Say What You're Saying), coming up!!!
  7. 7) THE TENNORS - REGGAE GIRL - BIG SHOT For years I thought this song was called Golden Woman, then I released that they weren't singing "I want a golden woman", they are actually singing "I want a bow-legged woman"! Why it ended up as being called Reggae Girl is baffling, as they only use the word once! Great (very) early reggae though.
  8. 6) DERRICK HARRIOTT - THE LOSER - ISLAND I have posted this before but it's so good, it's impossible to get tired of hearing it. Must warn you that my copy is very scratched but you can still hear the music well enough. This is a kind of rocksteady soul tune.
  9. 5) MONTY MORRIS - LAST LAUGH - DOCTOR BIRD This is a rare Doctor Bird release from 68 and despite their being no credits, this must surely be a lost Studio One recording, the bass just gives it away. Research has it down as being on a Jamaican label called Mercury and as a Barry Howard production. Who??
  10. 3) THE REGGAEITES - HARRIS WHEEL - CRAB This is one of my alltime favourite instrumentals so don't be put off by the crap artist name. The title is a bit wierd also, I don't know if they meant it to be called Ferris Wheel or even Harry's Wheel. Anyone loads of people will already have this as it's the B side of the big-selling Derrick Morgan track, Moon Hop. It's the instrumental of a great track by Austin Faithfull called Uncle Joe. It's pretty basic and the guy playing the organ seems to be playing notes at random towards the end but it's still a powerhouse skinhead reggae tune. 4) THE SKATALITES - TIMOTHY - SKA BEAT One of their less well know instrumentals which hasn't been compiled too often.
  11. 2) PRINCE BUSTER - JOHNNY DOLLAR - BLUE BEAT This is a great ska version of Garnet Mimms' A Quiet Place.
  12. 1) ALTON ELLIS - I'M JUST A GUY - STUDIO ONE This copy is a bit knackered but it's still a brilliant track, especially the bassline
  13. He put out a fundrasing album after that fire didn't he.
  14. Don't worry, I'll post them in the new Media section so you won't see them in the soul sections..
  15. Sad to hear that, Seven And Seven Is and Alone Again Or are among my favourite tracks. he came over and played a couple of years back at one of the Creation do's I think. As for Forever Changes...I've never understood why this is so acclaimed, same as I've never got Astral Weeks, I think I've bought it about 4 times now and only listened to the singles. When John Reed used to be at Record Collector I used to speak to him every week and every time he'd try to persuade me this was the best album of all time. I've now got the remasterd and expanded edition on cd and it's still in it's shrink wrap
  16. I never even heard of it Tone. Why is it referred to as 'milk bottles', is someone playing them? I do have the Alva Lewis on Caltone. I also have a bizarre version of Sir Collins Special on a white label from about 75 (going by the sound of the other side), basically it's the original version but they've "dubbed it up". Sir Collins Special also slipped out on the b side of something by The Aggrovators on Smash, I forget now, might be "The Wizard". I've got Music Field (on Island) - I do prefer the inst though, I know thats weird...
  17. Tough day for you today then Grant, I changed my mind, it's going to be all ska and reggae today...
  18. No, you are right Tone. I think he's trying to impersonate the American Mrs. Miller!
  19. I'll try and put up a few more sounds today. Collins Downbeat is a UK label, no idea who distributed it though. Some scans enclosed.
  20. It's on UK Treasure isle mate, thats why you can't find it
  21. Thats sacrilege!
  22. Never! It sounds exactly like her. Tyrone Evans, I must post up If This World Were Mine, what a track!
  23. I've never seen it on Trojan Tone, in fact it's a bit of a hens teeth job on Treasure Isle, this took me years to get, and I mean over 20 years. I like the Collins Downbeat label, he recycles everything numerous times. I'm sure you know that the backing track of this one came out as Lees Special by Don Lee on Island 3087...but it also came out on Island 3081 by Henry III as Won't Go Away! And the other side of that is called I'll Reach The End, but it's actually a version of The Troggs song With A Girl Like You! Bizarre. Henry III had a really great version of So Much Love on UK RCA. Any idea who he was?
  24. So did anyone like any of the ska/reggae/rocksteady stuff? Been ages since I played any so I thought I'd bash a few tunes out as I hadn't sent any up for ages. Will go back to the soul again tomorrow, don't worry!
  25. I think that was a guy named Roy Panton with Yvonne but someone will know for sure
