  1. NOTE THESE ARE NOT PIRATED FROM ANY OFFICIAL DVD OR VIDEO Pete.smith@freeuk.com petesmithrecords@hotmail.com 01902 893569 TWO NEW EPISODES OF "NIGHT TRAIN" Well this is the best bit of archive footage I've seen since NCSC put those volumes of rare soul clips out 3 years back, some of those clips are here but in far better quality, from the master program and without timecodes - plus you've got a previously unseen Ray Pollard live performance, the bizarre Jackie Shane, The Hi Tones, James Crawford, Peggy Gaines, Buddy & Stacey with a very recognisable Jimi Hendrix as part of the back up band, and the Detroit trio of Tony Clarke, Joe Matthews and Eddie Hill - as I said, these are in circulation, but not in this quality, and of course on this recording, all the introductions and links are intact too. The second show isn't as high quality but is still very enjoyable, even the original adverts are intact on this show. HOSTED BY NOBLE BLACKWELL BUDDY & STACEY - SHOTGUN (with Jimi Hendrix on guitar!) JIMMY CHURCH - IN THE MIDNIGHT HOUR PEGGY GAINES - ONE STEP AWAY EDDIE HILL - BABY I CRIED RAY POLLARD - MY GIRL AND I THE AVONS - BACK IN MY ARMS AGAIN JACKIE SHANE - WALKING THE DOG THE HI-TONES - COME FLY WITH ME JAMES CRAWFORD - IF YOU DON'T WORK YOU CAN'T EAT PAMELA RALEFORD - CC RIDER TONY CLARKE - THE ENTERTAINER JOE MATTHEWS - SHE'S MY BEAUTY QUEEN THE SPIDELLS - SO MUCH IN LOVE JULIA TURNER - MAKE SOMEONE HAPPY JIMMY CHURCH - EASE MY TROUBLED MIND THE COMMANDERS - SHOUT JIMMY CHURCH - DO YOU LOVE ME THE SPIDELLS - NEVER LET ME GO PAMELA RALEFORD - ALL I COULD DO WAS CRY JOE PERKINS - RUNAWAY TRAIN THE AVONS - YOU SEND ME JOHNNY STEELE?? - THANKS TO YOU GOOD ROCKIN' HARPIE?? - COME ON HOME FREDDIE NORTH - GOOD TIMES PEGGY GAINES - EVIL GAL BLUES HAL HARDY - DOGGIN' ME AROUND THE SPIDELLS - SAD BOY SAD GIRL JIMMY CHURCH & THE HI-TONES - MY GIRL IRONING BOARD SAM - STICKS AND STONES JOE PERKINS - PEOPLE THE AVONS - HEATWAVE If interested email or ring 2 disc set - price £20 - postage £1.50 recorded delivery (The original Night Train disc is still available the Avons, the Spidells, Hal Hardy, Jimmy Church, Freddie North, Ironing Board Sam, Pamela Releford, Jeffery Allen, Sandra King, Joe Perkins I can add this to the others to make it a 3 disc set for £25)
  2. About 4 years back I had a stunning vinyl white demo of That beatin Rhythm, Dave Flynn eventually nagged me so much to sell it that I sold it him for £80, never seen one since...what do we reckon, £250?
  3. Fair enough if they are describing them as reissue or pressing or second issue - at least thats not trying to pass them off as originals: but yes, loads of people leave it ambiguous and people get caught out. No way am I paying for this record, and if he tries to force me by saying he'll leave negative, I'll report him for selling a counterfeit item.
  4. Kinnell, how do I identify those???
  5. I don't understand what you're trying to say here. That there's no such thing as an oldie because all records are old? If someone asked me to name them a 100 northern oldies I could do it off the top of my head in 2 or 3 minutes and not one would have been made after 1970 and not one would have been first played after 1980. Everybody knows whats meant by northern oldies. Just because a record is 'not of the present day' doesn't make it an oldie in the Northern Soul sense of the term.
  6. That's all very well Ged, but there's no D in pigeon.
  7. He's a tw*t won't give me my J.B. & The Hawks single back
  8. Maybe somebody is on here using an assumed name having already got an account as, er, a different name??
  9. OK mate, thanks. Glen Walton was meant to be doing this for me - for his benefit - but he obviously hasn't had time  sent your record today by the way - many thanks
  10. That's right Paul - I hesitated to put Russ & Kev because logic was telling me that Kev wasn't on at the start - but yes, thats the one
  11. I think I've found a new and possibly as yet untapped source for R & B records, I mean the early stuff up to say 1963 - but I haven't got a clue what to look for. Does anyone want to supply me with lists of records to look for, I'll see if I can get them, and sell them on for a small profit? Or even send us a few current top 10's? n.b. It might turn out to be bollocks
  12. It really is a fantastic track isn't it. I love the instrumental as well, you can hear loads of orchestration in there which is drowned out on the vocal version.
  13. Paul, I used to have the first ever badge, my Auntie Jackie's husband gave it to me in 79 - she's a year older than me and he 5 years older - he went on the first night and I'm sure he said it was given out that night - Wigan casino First All Nighter, then Keep The Faith - Russ & someone.... I think it was yellow. I might be wrong about the colour, I sold it to Steve Morgan for £10 on the train to the Locarno on sunday.
  14. I quite like that Pressure track and I think Thinking Of You by Sister Sledge is one of the best records ever made, but I'll give you some petrol to pour on the rest of them, despite me never having heard any of them
  15. That was me, surprisingly, or not
  16. Let me say something controversial here then, this works both ways, one of the reasons I've stopped going out round here is because it's usually the same people dj-ing at every venue. Now don't get me wrong, these guys are really good and they have brilliant records - but they do tend to play the same records most of the time. And here's the twist. These records often include records with an average price of £500 upwards. So while these records may not be played at all venues, they do seem to be played round here too much, so just because you pay tons of money for a record, does that mean it has to be played at every event?
  17. You don't want to start buying pressings mate You're spot on with that list...local youth club back in the 70's, now local soul club!
  18. I remain uninterested in the sound of the 70's and 80's my friend. Apart from a few. Well thats because I don't dj Steve...where else am I supposed to play them?
  19. Drew I am removing 20 records from my own collection box, I haven't got many, maybe 100 or so of my favourites, 10 are played out oldies, 10 are not played out oldies, I wonder if people will think the same way.. bear in mind this isn't actually a playlist, they are just some my favourite records BOBBY REED - I'LL FIND A WAY INNOCENT BYSTANDERS - FRANTIC ESCAPE DEL ROYALS - MAN OF VALUE STER PHONICS - DON'T LEAVE ME EMANUEL LASKEY - LUCKY TO BE LOVED HONEY BEES - NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS PATTI AUSTIN - HE'S GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME MONIQUE - IF YOU LOVE ME LANDY - DOCTOR GOOD SOUL LITTLE ANN - WHEN HE'S NOT AROUND (WHAT SHOULD I DO) JJ BARNES - PLEASE LET ME IN RICHARD TEMPLE - THAT BEATIN RHYTHM NATURAL FOUR - I THOUGHT YOU WERE MINE FRANKIE CROCKER - TON OF DYNAMITE JOANIE SOMERS - DON'T PITY ME VOLCANOS - THE LAWS OF LOVE YUM YUMS - GONNA BE A BIG THING COASTERS - CRAZY BABY DYNAMICS - I NEED YOUR LOVE DETROIT EXECUTIVES - COOL OFF mix them all together though and you have a half decent hour of listening
  20. It's just a laugh mate... true though
  21. The Epitome Of Sound must have been played at more or less every venue since it was first discovered in 73. And rightly so! There are probably only 3 or 4 better Northern records ever made. So no wonder people want to hear it and dance to it. I don't play my records very often byut when I do, I always play that...and Little Anthony...and maybe 30 or 40 more, but it'll always be the same ones I keep going back to because asically - they are the best records!
  22. The actual definition is: "shit records that don't sound like 60's soul"
  23. Yes but if you are following up a hit, you prepare enough copies in case the follow up is a hit, they aren't going to make a run of 50 copies for a company like Parkway. Anyway the Janie Grant is now £250 due to demand and rarity
  24. Thanks Paul. It must be time for a new book John!
