  1. Bought a record off ebay on december 5th...described as definite original...cost me £50. Have now found out it's not an original at all but a cheap bootleg pressing. I guess I should have checked all the facts first but surely, the fact that it was described as an original and the fact I bought it on the understanding it's an original - that should enable me to ask for my money back, shouldn't it?
  2. Yes but hardly anyone will travel just to hear sounds nowadays because the scene is so small (when I say hardly anyone I'm talking about people who would physically travel to the 100 club to hear one single record like we used to do in the 70's). You are taking the words Keep The Faith too literally, no wonder the scene is so insular if you don't want anyone else to hear the tunes.
  3. It's on Jewel isn't it...about £20? I'm probably totally wrong
  4. But that's at least three people on this thread alone who've said it's average or below, not just me...anyway what's going on, why can I see your posts???
  5. ...and because it's rubbish
  6. BUSTERS ALLSTARS - JET 707 / DERRICK MORGAN - CONTENTED WIFE - BLUE BEAT 261. EX £200 Jet 707 is possibly the greatest ska instrumental ever made...Busters Allstars on this occasion are The Skatalites. Impossible to find in any condition let alone EX. BUSTERS ALLSTARS - RYGING / PRINCE BUSTER - AMBITION - BLUE BEAT 328 VG+ £30 This is one of the rarer Buster instrumentals and it's up there with the best of them BUT there is a problem with this one, it has a little crack on the edge of about 1cm, if you push the vinyl together properly it hardly makes a sound. Other than that it would have been VG+. THE UNIQUES - OUT OF LOVE / WATCH THIS SOUND - TROJAN 619 MINT £100 Out Of Love has the most soulful vocal ever performed on a Jamaican record. This is one of the very best reggae singles of all time, and the condition is phenomenal, spotless labels and vinyl. Tighten Up LP favourite Watch This Sound on the other side. THE TECHNIQUES - I WISH IT WOULD RAIN / THERE COMES A TIME - DUKE 1 VG+ £40 Very rare first release on UK Duke, and the brilliant Pat kelly on vocals on two great sides. THE SOUL BROTHERS - SOUND ONE - ISLAND 296 MINT £20 Not very often you see a mint Island 45 but I bought two of these by mistake so here's the spare one, Roland Alphonso et al on a rather strange instrumental CLANCY ECCLES - WHAT WILL YOUR MAMA SAY - PAMA 701 VG+ £20 First release on Pama I think, nice rocksteady track
  7. Gene, the B side of the Contenders "Do what you gotta do" is the same with echo etc, can't remember now but I'm sure the title has something to do with the moon. Obviously this label was owned by the same person who owned the Boss four label, Rim...this labels called Edge...rim/edge
  8. I was saying this is a bad thing not a good thing Baz, if you can't hear them anywhere else.
  9. All sold items removed and everything else reduced
  10. I think you must have drunk one already if you think this isn't based on Florence's exit from The Supremes...even the reasons for kicking the charachter out were the same. And what urban legend? It's100% fact that Ballard was removed and Ross promoted as the leader.
  11. I sold one about 3 weeks back for £50. It has now been bootlegged (or officially reissued) though, Anglo had them on sale at a tenner.
  12. If no-one had cut acetates from one off discs in the 70's there would be no northern scene now. You could not have just the one copy of something to make a record big. It needed to be played at the major venues, the midweek venues and even down the youth club. Nowadays people just don't travel to hear an exclusive record played at just one venue - if they do, they number in the low hundreds. As far as I'm concerned collecting does not have to be about owning the original record, which is now just a rich mans pastime, I don't give a damn what format it's on. So it's a vinyl carvers dub, so what, it's on vinyl and I can play it. And in any case what gives the DJ who has the original acetate the right to be the only person with a copy Karen? He didn't play on the record, produce it, sing on it or even write it. Someone else did all those things. He has no rights whatsoever unless he's bought the copyright from the owner. No wonder outsiders think half the people on the northern scene have their heads up their arses "would never get nor want a cut unless ok given by the owner" give me strength
  13. Was he there at the birth of the baby Jesus???
  14. I dunno, I don't think it's funny that you are being asked to explain to the soul police why you had the nerve to get an acetate of one of your favourite records cut without their permission
  15. It's your money, you can spend it on what you like, you'll never get it on 45 so why not get it cut? And how dare anyone question you as to your motives. Tell em to f*ck off.
  16. Really enjoyed that Matt
  17. One of the most overrated records ever.
  18. All of the records I have on bootleg, pressing or reissue (or UK reissue for that matter) - I would say that I have had 90% of them as originals but had to sell the original at some time in the past. Obviously I've never had an original eddie parker (awake) or del larks but most of the rest I've had...and I still want them on vinyl. When I was 16, things like Yvonne Baker, Mel britt, The Champion, Johnny Vanelli, this stuff came out sometimes 5 or 6 titles every single week...week after week, and when you've just left school and have very little money, you do buy pressings. That's why perhaps some of us who are getting on a bit don't make so much noise about this sort of thing, we grew up with buying the new pressings for 75p then a quid apiece...I do agree that this latest batch are far removed from what was around in the 70's though...and it's also the fact that the selections are so obvious. Still, someone's buying them. I'm not.
  19. Er, it's so you can play it off vinyl, I've got f*cking hundreds of 'em and I've got them on cd as well but I never play the cd's...until the Yum Yums starts selling for £5 I'll keep my bootleg thanks very much n.b. I estimate that I have sold over 12,000 northern soul originals in the last 9 years
  20. There is no difference whatsoever.
  21. You're getting nowehere with this guy. You might as well leave it to the likes of Tony who works for one of the companies involved, after all it's their artists being ripped off. Not that I don't admire what you're doing, it's just that this guy is taking no notice whatsoever and it needs to be done by someone with the law behind them.
  22. also (I know sod all about this record so it's a guess) LEE TILLMAN - WILL TRAVEL - RON (only VG but not cleaned it yet) 20.00
