  1. Yeah it was like a hut, long thin place, like a womens institute meeting place! There was a room right at the back for dossing in.
  2. I went to one of these, it was in 79 - train from Wton to Birmingham then a terrible time getting to the bus station with numerous punks and skinheads giving us serious problems, bus to Redditch, terrible allnighter playing crap music, that was the last nighter I ever went to in that era apart from the final Wigan.
  3. That's the exact surgery David Bowie had a couple of years back so he's in good company!
  4. In the big room at Wigan one night - wasn't that busy if I remember, might have been a saturday after an oldies - I saw a bloke get beat up by two lads out side the gents toilets, he got up, grabbed a chair and threw it after them, almost in slow motion it bounced, headed in a different direction and went straight into the head of some poor girl who was sitting at a table at the edge of the dancefloor. Also after Brownie from Blackburn died, the lad who was involved somehow was carried out of the Casino on a stretcher, though he knew that was going to happen to him so he was brave to turn up in the first place.
  5. March Of Dimes is a charity which helps save premature babies
  6. I've got a handful, if/when I get chance I'll dig em out and you can have them for nothing, no use to me
  7. Basically Etta's 'official' portrait photographer saw a clip of her that I'd put on YouTube and apparently Etta didn't even know it existed (neither did anyone else by the looks of some of the comments) and she was so blown away by it that she asked if I would do her a dvd of it, so I did, forgot about it, then this signed photo arrived today. No sign of the $1000 I asked for Here's the clip, it's fantastic.
  8. Yes you get a signed photo of Etta James, how do you want it made out to? Damn, hang on, my silver pens just run out....
  9. And she's turned into a black woman since I last saw her!
  10. Go on, someone say 'who is it'?
  11. It's pretty good but it's not that rare, I had one for months and could never shift it, think it went for about £25 in the end
  12. I know they've been taking down a lot of Soul Train clips so enjoy this one while you can
  13. Happy Cats was played for a maximum of 3 weeks...never really big. When I did the Grapevine article for Record Collector I asked John Anderson why the put certain records out and the answer was simply that they had the rights to them...like why put out Stanley Woodruff 2 years after it was big, that sort of thing, and why waste plastic on the likes of the Happy Cats? Though the other side was quite good "Destroy that boy"
  14. Simon said it was £25 not me
  15. Don't make a lot of sense Mel, I doubt if there's such a thing as a Karen acetate, it would be an Atlantic one or whatever studio it was cut at - I MAY BE WRONG - John M willknow
  16. The yellow label one I had was fantastic sound quality Gene but I;d had it a dozen or so years
  17. Need a bit more info than that...real acetate or one that someone cut? label?
  18. Yes it's what we used to call an Emidisc - pick any two titles and someone will cut them onto disc for you. Used to cost £5 at the time.
  19. Australian is by far the easiest way to pick it up, you did well to get £55!
  20. Thanks for the tips on recording, dummy that I am, I've already got the program and have used it successfully, I just forgot.
  21. Presume you're talking about Oh What A Feeling? I reviewed that in Beatin Rhythm something like 14 years ago and I think it was totally unknown so I valued it at £20. £80 now I reckon Mace. Tops.
  22. Jeff Buckey - Hallelujah. Last time I can remember being stopped in my tracks by a song
  23. Is it possible to save those auction player samples then Blake, if so, how do you do it??? There was a French language version of Don't Pity me on there recently and I tried everything but couldn't work out how to save it. As for this record, Johnny Praye - first time I've heard it - 5 out of 10
