I wasn't going then Simon so I can't answer but I spent the last year of my Wigan attendance just verballing and never dancing anyway so it wouldn't have made any odds...
It's like with a lot of these records - the difference between hearing them on a pc or record player is massive compared to hearing them at boneshaking volume at an allnighter
This is the earliest surviving tape that I recorded myself, there's not a lot of flow to it but it's a good representation of the big sounds of the day. Listen to the sound of feet on the floor during the French Fries!

Yes loads but that was all I had chance to do last night sorry - all sorts of converting I have to do so it takes a while to get it recorded, prepared and published. I'll do the second half of that night though.
As requested, I've dug some more Wigan tapes out and will post a few up in the next day or two, this first one is a Richard Searling spot from 79, only about 35 minutes but there's some excellent tracks and you can see the quality starting to come back after what was in retrospect a very dodgy 1978 as far as quality new discoveries went.
I've had to register on my podcast.com incognito as they banned me last time so please ignore the fluffy pink background

Great memories for me too - mainly youth club but I can still see the girls from Wton stomping to this at one of the Wigan oldies allnighters in early 77. It might not have any soul content but nobody can say it's not Northern Soul.
There's two yellow ones, a Trans American and one that just says Trans, someone was saying that these Trans ones are official reissues, at the end of the day - who cares, neither yellow ones are originals so they are still bootlegs or reissues!
