  1. It was a 90's discovery wasn't it, Chris King?  I can remember the white label 45's appearing.  It's proper title btw is 'Think It Over (Before You break My Heart).

I had the first copy ! Got it off the bloke who did them in Detroit, this wasn't Kingy,  was with Tats and he played it to us, I identified it as Brenda Holloway.

It was first played at Ian & Mellisa Bullochs Wedding reception at the Winding Wheel in Chesterfield July 4th 1992 ! We had literately got off the plane from the States ! I then hammered it at The Hollingwood 3 months before copies arrived for sale in the UK !

  3. Yes RIP Andy, standing in for me at the Hollingwood that night. I still remember the phone calls and answering machine messages waiting for me when I got up off nights on the Saturday morning.

Also  remember going to the crash scene with John & Mick & Maxine on the Sunday Morning and finding Andy's glasses and small items.

Its still a mystery how Andy ended up on that stretch of road, I pass the spot a few times a year, now fitted with chevron signs for the bend, I've seen the plaque you put up as well. Always think of him when there.

Totally tragic loss of a wonderful, larger than life guy

    RIP ANDY.

  4. Seriously Rob?  You mean ruining it for everyone except themselves?  There was enough of the pie to go round before the price guides, so what do they do?  Arm every man and his dog with the information it took us years to learn.  The price guides are the worst thing ever to happen to the collecting scene.

May be Pete, remember I spent 5 years trawling the States BEFORE the guide........HAPPY DAYS...but the scourge then was "THE YELLOW BOOK" , Music Master price guide, a £10 UK record could appear in there at $100 ! ???

Swings and round a bouts I bet you've had something that was a high value in the book that you though was cheap ?

Records are all about supply and demand, if I buy something its because I want it !

Everyone likes a bargain, I went to a dealer in Alabama who had everything with a price on from Johns guide..he said he'd sell at 1/3 that price ! Some still were not worth bothering with ! lol

  5. Guides are just that, as John says in his intro, he also states that it is the price for A MINT UNPLAYED COPY, not many of those around are there !

Great for info and well worth the £30 or so for the detail.

good job Tim and John wrote it all down

  6. I have bought a few thing in the last month or so and tried to leave feedback for the sellers pete smith and KJW who both provided great service, but I couldn't work out how to do it.

Maybe a straight Leave feedback button, sorry if Ive missed it Mike

  7. They should do an article, after all records this rare are unlikely to appear every month. For collectors it's a holy grail 45, although not, of course, a rare sound as it's easily found on other labels. It does raise the question of whether other copies will now appear as non-soul-aware individuals may have one but don't know the importance of it.

"‹I think that the subject of Darrell banks has been well covered in record Collector over the years and anyone owning a copy would maybe have cashed in long ago

This is a fantastic find, well done Nick.

Not one person on here thought it existed in an issue format, nice to think someone salted it away all those years ago , sneaked out in his "Snap Bag" along with a clutch of Stones and Billy Fury 45s.

Holy Grail is used so often on records these days, this presses so many of the "Right" buttons its unbelievable and it has a very broad appeal, £10K ? More I'd say if 2 or 3 of the heavy weight collectors got involved, plus the London label guys with money..the sky is the limit. If you had limitless funds and one record missing....................how high do you go...once in a lifetime 1 (ps did you look in the shed Nick in the spares drawer ?)

Once again I take my hat off to you

  8. As a Promoter this is a Nightmare for Ady and indeed all those attending the event.

Not been over as much as I'd have liked in the last 4 years, but always loved the feel of this event and obviously 2nd to none as far as sourcing live acts.

There's going to be a lot of all night parties going on in those caravans !

Its strange that local pubs can get 4am-5am drinks licenses, yet a self contained event has this problem !

A serious cock up by the owners of the Centre.

Best wishes to Ady and all who are travelling, I know you'll all have a party.
