  1. As before, "Pyramid" first played at Stafford (by Adam ?), then went BIG in the late 80s when the scene was very undergound again. reminds me of the 100 club. The record was booted to supply demand for the record, however with the addition of the previously un-issued "michigan move" it is something of an oddity as that has never been released on vinyl anywhere before !

Pyramid was taken from an original copy, done in London, and the labels cocked up on each of the 500 copies pressed ! As a detroit fan it has to be worth having to get the un-issued track on 45. they sold at £5 each when done around 1988/89.

Also thought this came out on Kent at some point (did it Ady ?)

Pity the masters aren't available for a clean copy to be issued.

As for anthing its worth as much as you want to pay for it, but don't be surprised if this isn't a future "collectable" in its own right. :D

  2. Steve Crofts record stall, and he used have pricing policy based on black power,on the corner where price is,he would have letters B L A C K P O W E R,ie A P would work out at £36,anybody remember this,ho and was not string, they where specialy made rods, with locks on. :) Ken

  3. I am right in thinking that Curtis came over to one of the early Southport weekenders and brought half a dozen copies of the hardest part with him ??

must be late 80's when he came ????

  4. Only just got in on this thread back to the original point ?

    Requests

My favourite stories both come from Chesterfield

first one we were doing a very quiet Thursday night session at the Adam & Eve around 1988 ish about 20 people in playing current Northern & some oldies from the time. A young girl walks up and requests some "house music" I explained that it was a Northern night and got a Gob full of abuse back. Half an hour later she's back asking for house music again, so i say (whilst playing Jock Mitchell ) this IS house music......I always play it at my house...........no more trouble !

Then at The Hollingwood a young lady asked me for "You've got to have a man inside you ".......so I says I don't know it, she says you played it last month and starts singing Tyrone Barclay "Man of value" !!!!!

By the way would love to go to a do with all young DJs all evening they haven't been coorupted yet !! :shades:

  7. It's a shame for the 'big lads' that they can't get some kind of commission from future sales of these types of tunes when they come up for sale because whatever they turn up and play seems to eventually command huge dosh!!!      :)

    link

Gary Welsh had TWO copies of Joseph Webster at Bradford back in the late 80s and no one wanted it !!!(including myself ughhhhh)

  8. Just listened to "Take me to A Higher Level" As iTunes is my default player and I've got it on random with a bit of crossfade, the track just segued into Particle Man by They Might Be Giants

Looks like it's gonna be a bit of an odd day

    Godz

    link

Did you get any of the others ? it played about 60 seconds of each on mine !

  9. I think that when this turned up in the 80s (?) Ian Clark had something to do with it and maybe getting it re-pressed very soon after the original(very small) first press, there is also a LOU Ragland connection with the disc as i think it originates from Cleveland Ohio and may have been done just before lou moved to Las Vegas.

For what its worth I have never seen the "orig" and my copy plays the way it should !

  10. Just had an e-mail off GWEN OWENS she has a new Gospell Cd out this week,

there are some sound bites on this link, the first three tracks belt along--one to watch i think !

I'm sending you some info on my Gospel Groups New CD. You can listen to

seconds of each spng on www.cdbaby.com/melodious. The attachement is in

    Microsoft Work format.

  11. What was the name of the sex change record dealer who used to have the stuffed parrot in a cage behind his stall ?

Prehaps most Northern soul bloke types are a bit weary of a femme fetal as they all seem to say "Me missus don't like the music and don't understand me talking bollocks about records all night"

Enjoy it while you can !

  12. When I go to a weekender, I am looking forward to the whole experience.

Its fairly certain that if you spend 4 days confined to a holiday camp, there are going to be bits that you dont enjoy.

I found that if I wasnt enjoying a spot, I could leave that venue and have a choice of another FOUR, where the music might be more to my taste. Or I could sit in the record bar and chat with mates old and new. Or I could go back to my chalet, chat with mates, relax, eat, drink, whatever. Or even play space invaders in the arcade.

If someone wants to confine themselves to an arena where they arent enjoying the music thats their fault for not using their imagination, and enjoying all the other delights on offer for £12.50 per day. £50 for 4 days entertainment. Thats absolutely fantastic in my book.

Its not obligatory once you have left the creche, for ALL your entertainment to be provided by others. You can excercise your right to investigate other ways of enjoying yourself. At times I got fed up with the music. At others I got fed up with my mates, and even got fed up with those seagulls shagging on our roof every morning, and making more noise than the Chelsea manager in a players tunnel. When that happened I just took myself off to pastures new, and enjoyed something else.

I cant really compare last year to this, as they were totally different. Thats a good thing. Predictability, surely, spells the end for weekenders. I met lots of new people, but probably less new people than I met last year. I danced more this year, because I drank more, so that doesnt mean the music was any better.

Its your life. If you want to spend it moaning about how miserable other people are making you, fine, but you can do something about it. For example I didn't like the Kronenbourg. I dont think the Pontins staff cleaned the pipes out properly, so I changed to Guiness, and enjoyed that.

Dont know what that rambling, says apart from, I must be back at work, cos I am spending all my time on Soul Source. Great to meet so many SSer's and put faces to names. I just wish I got to meet Christian, cos you really make me laugh mate. Top quality.

    What an excellent post !

  14. total eclipse "6 o clock" is an inst version of a loving spoonful Us number 1 hit !!!

and yes it is the same record As "SUPERTIME" the boot is the only 45 issue of this track. LP is about £50/£60 I think !
