I wish Martin!!! got mine off Ted Massey, but at my 40th bash there was a Billy Woods re-union were 4 original copies in the Room !! The copy Arthur Fenn had was found by Dave Raistrick and was stone mint, came off the label owner or producer at Sussex for $3, but he did have to buy all the other releases as well , not sure wether Arthur still has it or not. Problem is they wear out ! due to being Styreen John A told me the copies he had came from a rep, he had 250 in a flat, but his rent was due . when john went back the bloke had been evicted along with the remaining 240 Billy Woods !!! Was my all-time crack up record and took me years to get it. When I saw Ted the other week he always asks after the record............ Rob Wigley

Important news regarding Prestatyn weekender next year The date for the Spring weekender has been changed by Pontins due to Merseyside school holidays half term arrangements . THE DATE IS NOW Fri 29th Feb to Mon 3rd of March 2008 which is Two weeks earlier than we advertised at the 2007 weekender. Everyone who has pre-booked this event will be receiving a letter directly from Pontins (thats a lot of postage for 2,500 people) Thursday nights date is 28th Feb. We had this confirmed by e-mail last night, please let anyone know who is already making travel arrangements from abroad etc to attend the weekender. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause at this early stage. However the Midnight hour team can give you a taster and confirm that our first artist booked are THE PRECISIONS returning with the missing Michael this time , out of all our acts they are the ones everyone keeps asking for !!!! See You There Rob & karen for Midnight Hour team

Stay off the bags and concentrate on the sounds ! You've a lifetime of stuff in front of you.Great way to get into it though. Roxy Rob sells all sorts of retro clothing via the shop in Notts-right at the top end of Mansfield Road, they have also come to a couple of Prestatyns selling stuff. Most of all enjoy it as most of us on here are still doing after 30 odd years at it !!
-
Keep bailing Sean and get as much out as you can--remember our cellar in Rotherham ? came up through the floor I manage to get most stuff out, but the trouble is it starts going "Fusty" a couple of months after. All the insurers do is pump it out and put de-humifiers down there till the next time. Good luck .but more bad weather on its way for the weekend, take care Rob & Karen

Further to my earlier answer John poole assures me Sam had & was playing Nabay at Samanthas, and it seems the record was put to the back of his box to be re-activated a couple of years later. I heard it at Wigan when it stuck with me as a great detroit 45.
-
Always loved this will take it to Brid to play next weekend Also heard "Hip-it" Hossana played in the Modern Room at baltic Soul Weekender, now its YEARS since I heard that played at a venue and it sounded great !

Nabay 100% a Wigan Record by Gary Rushbrook circa 1978

flowers "for real" was discovered first and played the guy who used to work for Rod in the States was sent to track the group down and discovered several tracks from the studio, most of which were too "rocky" to fit the bill at Thorne, then he hits "we could make it happen" had the studio tests done to create DJ demand and then thay pressed the 45 at least a 250 run, but if you were not around at the time you probably would not have given it a second look ! Great Record they issued "For real " later on a 12" with other tracks that were big at the time
-
Just checked the site out--Talking utter B*$*S%"T again-- so my "Bootleg"of mel Britt that I bought around 1976-must be an original as it had no been discovered, so could not have been pressed and now must be worth £600 ? John Anderson was also ahead of his time releasing Nabay on grapevine before it was known ! Well done for having the guts to visit this site, anyone know which "national Press" it was featured in ?? --> QUOTE(Mike B @ May 20 2007, 11:12 PM) link The SWONS part 42 As a few of you know I have been lucky enough to have made contact with a handful of soul artists over the years and occassionally I write the odd piece about them - As it happens I was in contact with Deons representative last year on behalf of some friends. Negotiations took place to try and book Deon's services for an event in the UK and It was made clear that sadly he would not be travelling to the UK in the forseeable future due to private issues - unrelated to his own health as I recall. Given that this took place several months ago, No-one was more suprised than me to see him being promoted to appear at the Northampton weekender. So enquiries were again made a couple of months ago just to see why the situation had changed and still the same message came back i.e. that he would not be travelling to the UK - rather than p*ss on Paddy's party I thought the right thing was to say nothing publically, particularly in light of a certain article that was debated (quite properly IMO ) on here, before its hasty removal from the UK's 'number one northern soul website' . That being the same article that started this thread and was scathing amongst other things of quote 'amateur promoters ' unquote. Surely having written an article like that Paddy would not then have gone on to promote Deons appearance at his weekender without a written contractual agreement being in place would he? .................... No doubt Paddy will be happy to give you an answer to your question Cunnie, as I'm sure anyone who booked specially to see Deon in recent weeks will be feeling a touch disappointed. SWONS indeed Mike Would haved loved to see Deon jackson in the UK & Mike bent over backwards to get him over to PRESTATYN in march 2007, 6 months of negotiations, CONTRACTS drawn up, WORK PERMITS set out and Deon made it clear, even after numerous phone calls, he did not want to come !! We now never advertise our acts until the ink is dry on the contract, but the Prestatyn faithful know we will always pull out all the stops to provide a great showcase with something a little bit extra special. Its sad that when something goes wrong the promoter will not come out and be HONEST with the people who stump up their hard earned cash and tell them straight, as Ady has just done with Kel Osbourne, as soon as Ady knew he put the word out straight away and announced a replacement act. By the way The Tymes are not coming over in October either, I am still see handbills around advertising them as well !!! I don't know how people stand with refunds etc, but may be a call to Trading Standards would give you some ideas anyone feels they have been mislead in anyway, which i believe is where this thread started......................
