Just put all my badges in with Lesley, Rob shouted at me said worth lots of money, who give a f---- about money, Friendship is the world. Very Special thanks to John Anderson for all the soul bowl packs we got in the West and Wales(xxxxxx). Also I like to give YATE a special mention as it had and still has a big impact on this scene. After YATE had closed the scene in the west died a death, so the rest of this thread is for you ? Dave Thorley. This is a typed copy of a original West Wilts Soul Scene new letter sent out to all member. There was not that many of us including myself but we try hard to keep the west country soul scene alive. I hope this gives a snap shop of the scene in the eighties what it was really like. Anyone mentioned on this post or who shows me there membership card can have a copy of the original. Otherwise this is all you are getting. WEST WILTS SOUL SCENE HISTORY. November 1982 Club founded by Michael Snow, Adrian Matthews, Sean and Pauline Chapman, Kevin Poole, Mick Greenwood, Lisa Dore, John Phillips and Rich Lisney due to the lack of soul in the area ( Yate had closed) December 1982 First Soul night at Court Mills Youth Centre, Trowbridge. Good idea at the time but no bar and awful venue led to small turnout. The soul nights here continued until May 1983. June 1983 After a break we carried on with a soul night at Hilperton Village Hall which was a success even though the Trowbridge Police Force (Sergeant Nutland) thwarted our application for a bar. There was a little trouble from the usual crowd. December 1983 After a six-month gap a coach trip to the Bristol All-Nighter was organised. Numbers didn't come forward and the Club lost £27.00. But thanks to the usual crowd who made the effort (WHERE WERE THE Northern Soul Patch Brigade who never go anywhere but Melksham?) February 1984 Eventually another Soul Night was organised as Sean and Pauline (two founder members) were going away to Belgium for three years (look out for details of the first Belgium All-Nighters1) This night was a great success and has given us a good start for 1984. More and more people are showing an interest in Northern Soul and we are glad to see the number on the dance floor increasing. Thanks to everyone who has supported us and we hope to have more regular nights at Bath Sports Centre if possible. Northern Sounds Available On Re-release. We recommend ordering from Knees of Trowbridge as they are very helpful. Frank Wilson Do I Love you (indeed I do) Label - Motown Edwin Starr Agent 00 Soul " S.O.S. 13. No i drank a lot of hair restorer & you are only as old as the woman you're feeling, Uncle Dave
  14. We have been better....But the support from our TRUE friends is overwhelming watch out for a post from Karen later on tonight on the subject of the 80s Scene & I should have put "no glossy mags, only dedicated people doing A4 fanzine's as an excuse to sniff the Copier fluid". Rob
  15. Lost years of the 80s-In one Paragraph (edited for Mr Rimmer) Most of the contacts were done on the phone to see where the other lost souls were travelling to that weekend. The odd advert in the back of (Black) Echoes, block adds for something special ie Ric-Tic revue or Stafford. Hardly any flyers in venues, No Internet, No glossy Mags, Word of mouth and open minds were king. Great times, a real laugh and hardly any backstabbing B*****ds . Rob.
  16. Hi chalky thanks for your kind words regarding Lesley. As a young chick myself on the scene from 1980/1 I totally agree with the above statement apart from the one thing you have forgotten--The fabulous Bank Holiday weekends we shared 3 all-nighters and 2 dayers--you lightweight !! love karen Wigley (McHugh)
  17. Just to remind people funeral details Thursday 25th Oct Rotherham Crematorium at 11.20 am (Herringthorpe road) be early as the car parking is crap !! and its a long walk up through the grounds to the Crem. looks like the pub is called "The Tabbard" on Valley Road not a "do" as such but we'll get a CD player in there and have a drink and a good old chat Quite a few coming down by the sound of things. Rob & Karen
  18. A personal message to all from KAREN A record that will remind me of Lesley for ever is The Majestics "I love her so much it hurts" Any DJ out and about at this weekends events can you please play and dedicate this record to Lesley Singleton as a mark of respect. Love to all on The Scene-you know who you are Karen Wigley xxxxxxxx
  19. Have talked to Martin over the weekend and I now have the funeral details as follows THURSDAY 11.20 am AT ROTHERHAM CREMITORIUM, (Herringthorpe Road i think) I Know it it well sign posted and in the Mushroom garage area if that helps. We are trying to arrange a small get together after the cremation at a pub nearby, Martin has given his full blessing but he is a very private person and will not be attending it. details follow tomorrow or wednesday when we get home. Martin has asked me to pass on his thanks to everyone who has left messages and calls, he really is overwhelmed at how much she was liked and respected even after a long time away from The Scene. Anyone who wants to pass a message on to him and Lewis, just PM us and we'll print them off and take them along for him on Thursday. thank you Rob & Karen
  20. Words can not express the sadness we feel when we got this terrible news last night in Dublin. Karen is totally devastated and heartbroken, Lesley was her best friend, with her acts of kindness friendships like this only come once in a lifetime. She is Godmother to our son Connor and was a constant source of help and inspiration when we lived in Rotherham. She was always the smiling face and would help anyone. This puts all recent events into prospective. We are waiting to find out more details of this tragic death, but at the moment it sounds like a heart attack. God bless you. Will post again later Karen & Rob RIP
  21. Slightly embarrassed at being the subject of my own thread !! Thank you very much for all kind words, phone calls, e-mails, PMs,Texts. The phone has not stopped ringing since Friday. (we have 5 lines) Myself & Karen are very touched by the true and genuine support of our many friends on the Scene. Love to all Rob & Karen Wigley
  22. Glad we saw him at Cleethorpes Very bad news indeed RIP rob & karen
  23. John Hillyard in LA once told me that all the Ray Agee "I'm loosing again" Soultown are Boots ! done for the other side for the USA Blues market. Never came out on anything else ? Whats that worth now ?? Rob
  24. When we are sorted I will start a thread about these problems, tried to get shut of them and they wanted £30 to bloody "disconnect" us, at present in "limbo land" to quote their rep i presume "limbo Land" is half way between Worksop and India, where most of my calls have been handled ! ARGHHHHHHHHHH
  25. Just posted some stuff back to myself from the USA 200 records in one box weight = 16 Lbs cost $ 75.65 US 190 records in another box = 14 Lbs cost $69.35 arrived here 10days after I posted them so $70 US seems to be taking the Piss !! Rob
