Genius advertising for the O'Jays 'Backstabbers' with a hand drawn knife - no computer graphics in those days. Have you Got an issue number for that one Jo ? I'll try and dig out a couple of copies and do some scans....priceless Great, does anyone know when the Black Music Mag ended publication was it with the down turn in the Northern scene in the 80s ?? rob

looks like she hasn't got exclusive use on it ! REEEE-HABBBBBB Baby !
-
Thought this might be of interest saw it in the Daily Mail (God bless 'em) and it ties in nicely with her come back, ReHab, Hangers On, Back Stabbers etc its a good little read:- https://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/showbiz/showbiznews.html?in_article_id=510205&in_page_id=1773 Rob & Karen

As I said earlier "The cut and paste" brigade at Pontins HQ strike again !! But it does tend to cheapen the "Midnight Hour" branding somewhat, almost abosrbing it into Pontins culture in a way, which is a pity. Rob
-
Oh dear Ady I'm very sorry to hear that By the way looks like they fell out with the rock 'n' Roll lot who have also left the building......
-
I had noticed that it says the MIDNIGHT HOUR CREW PRESENTS which now comprises of John Poole, Fish and Mark Fletcher. who all know when Cleethorpes is on. However after working with Pontins during the last 7 years I had noticed that they do a lot of "Cutting and pasting" from previous years in their promotional stuff to save time. This original event was moved from Hemsby 2 years ago because we could not get people to travel from the North West, due to the 5 and a half hour journey time. So it may have been moved back there due to the uncertainty over the Prestatyn Sands venue. For what its worth Hemsby Camp has a lovely feel to it, try the Rock n Roll weekender there when everyone is in costume with all the old cars etc. Its "real" Rock n Roll as well which is 90% Black music, which may appeal to R n B fans, there are TONS of US records for sale as well. Tony Middleton was there around 2 years ago as part of the Webs I think ! Rob Wigley (former member of Midnight Hour )

I've got one that myself and Tats found on the West Coast in the late 80's I only know it through Notts collector Richie Broughton who spent years looking for it after hearing it at Wigan !! There was one in his collection when he sold up, I though he had paid £20 way back. A very hard record, but as above Ady & John is it because everyone thought it was a bootleg ?
-
Without these people behind the scenes at the record company there would have been no 60s soul as we know it. They lead the way for others to follow. RIP
-
true 100% Thorne-but there were only 50 people there but all were into it !!
-
As I said earlier, we hope to see Melvin over here later in the year !!
-
Just to add a bit more to this, the film won 5 awards at a US awards thing about 2 weeks back It also won 2 "Golden Globes" at the weekend (best foreign film & Best director) Its up for some Oscars as well. Good thing is it makes Both Melvin Davis and JJ Barnes some much needed dosh with DVD sales and profile etc.

My favorite record ever "Backstabbers"
-
Heard him live last Saturday at about 3.30 am "live" from Statten Island New York previewing the show. Mentioned that he was looking at doing Minehead and Bognor (BUTLIZ s /) also mentioned N.Wales. They played "I'm on my way" as well. Great artist-- but maybe a little overdone-which is sad.

When are you doing yours Sean ?? Still waiting for my copy to arrive from Amazon (Must be the South american branch !)

Spare A Thought For Nogger This Xmas
Rob Wigley replied to Pauldonnelly's topic in All About the SOUL
Just to add a note Noggers mums funeral is 15th jan 2008 at 12.45 at St James Church, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent. We know quite a few of you met her in the early days of the scene when Nogger used to drive her mad bringing mates back after the All-nighters in Stoke & Wigan etc. Anyone who wants to attend is more than welcome. -
Bridlington 2008 - Something new to do 2 - Yorkshire Weekender
Rob Wigley posted an article in Event News
Bridlington 2008 "Something new to do" 2 Yorkshire Weekender The East Coast Soul Collective Soul Club are proud to present the sequel to the most talked about event of 2007. The second Bridlington Northern Soul Weekender will happen on Friday 27th to Sunday 29th of "sunny" June 2008. In the tradition seaside resort of Bridlington in Yorkshire's East Riding. link to full size flyer We will be moving to our new home in the fabulous newly re-furbished Bridlington Spa Pavilion on South Marine Drive. The building has undergone a £18.5 million regeneration over the past 3 years to make it Yorkshire's most talked about & premier event venue. Keeping to the original design of the 1920's Building and adding a few 21st Century touches this is now a "state of the art" facility and still retains all the original charm of a true dancehall. div divspanThe main ballroom reputedly has the largest dance floor in EUROPE and it has been totally renewed to its original specifications thus providing a perfect platform for Northern soul dancing at its very best. We are dedicating this main room as "Totally Northern Soul" Keeping with the "Yorkshire" theme our DJ line up in the main room represents some of the best of England's largest County's talent. With ex-Wigan Casino DJ Pat Brady and Samantha's star John Vincent both wearing the white rose with pride. Rob Wicks, Yockie, & Mort are flying the flag for the S.Yorkshire contingent plus John Parker & Tony Hatfield represent the County City of York and Dukesy making the trip down the coast from Scarborough. With an invasion being lead in convoy up the M62 by Annesley's Pete Taylor representing Sherwood Forest, Glynn Sissons, Rob Smith & Rob Wigley will all be heading north for the weekend wearing the outlaws Lincoln green (although not the tights we might add !). We will also be taking the opportunity to feature several Yorkshire Soul Clubs during the Weekender details of which will be published later in the year. With the change of venue brings the chance to add a second room to the event, which will be playing the best in Crossover & Modern Soul And will again featuring a wealth of Yorkshires finest. Exiled Yorkshire man Sean Hampsey will be teaming up with his Pitches right hand man Andy "Tats" Taylor alongside Modernism's Martin Dixon and Errol Green. Making the journey from Lancashire will be John Kane playing the current floor-fillers and crowd pleasers. Rob Wigley will be double-shifting and further guest to be confirmed as the event draws closer. We firmly believe that this event is the best value for money soul event in the UK.span As a part of that commitment to the scene we have held the admission to last years bargain price of £20 for the FULL WEEKEND when purchased in advanced by ticket. We can also offer a "Mini-Bus" special for parties of 12 people travelling together which is a "Buy 10 get 2 free" offer. Please note this offer can only be purchased from the Organisers ticket outlet and NOT via the Spa Box Office credit card hotline. Spare A Thought For Nogger This Xmas
Rob Wigley replied to Pauldonnelly's topic in All About the SOUL
Thanks for everyone who gives Nogger support it really lifts his spirits as he watches the threads on here. His mum died at 9.45 am Christmas morning, it seems like if it wasn't for bad luck he'd have no luck at all. Things can only get better in 2008. You know we are here for you mate karen & Rob -
Anyone wishing to send messages of suport or get well greetings put them below as dave "Lurks" on here when he's well !
