Also travels on Public transport to work. Mirror, mirror on the wall, is Cunnie the greenest of them all" ouchh Hey Malc he's even sent me his article by Pigeon Post Rob & Karen

Carbon Foot(see)print
How "Guilty" are we (Northern/ Modern people) in this "green age". We demand vinyl records using precious oil, We travel hundreds of mile to hear a few sounds played when we could just sit at home and "down load". We now fly to different countries to Dj or dance, or even further searching for those oil guzzling 45s. We promote events to MAKE people travel, in some cases FLYING people in to perform. We produce tons of carbon-dioxide talking bol***ks at all-nighters I hold my hand up and say "Guilty" to all charges me lord. I wouldn't even know where to begin to work out how many trees I'd need to plant to make amends for our miss use over the last 35 years What's your answer to this, do we stop, or how far away are we from the first "Green" soul event Rob & karen *please note no animals were used or harmed during the making of this post *

Pies & Prejudice - Russ & Richard
good one, didn;t know that, My mum is from St Helens and my Uncle always called Wigan folk "Fu***ng Pie eaters" I get it now !!! Rob QUOTE (Karen and Rob Wigley @ May 27 08, 05:07 PM) Ian I saw Russ Winstanley on TV "Richard & Judy Show" claiming he invented "The Meat Pie sandwich" around 3 years ago. He was on some sort of get fit loose inches off your waist type thing they did. So that is the second thing Russ invented....... Rob Hi Rob Your post bought a smile to my face. Went round one of me mates when I was about 17 - he was from Sheffield. His dad came in and offered a brew - nice. He then offered me a pork pie sandwich! Joe's right about "The Henderson's Relish", after living around Rotherham for a while and working with Sheffield folk as well, they are all addicted to the stuff, still its not bad ! I'd never heard anything like it - but I had one anyway - with loads of brown sauce! Anyone else had a pork pie sandwhich? Was it a Melton Mowbray Pork Pie just to complicate things

Keele Early 90's When
Neil Clowes what a great bloke, nogger knows what he is up to. I had the great pleasure of DJing at the 1st Anniversary All-nighter--Now here is a strange one neil had all the DJs a solid silver heart shaped bookmarker made with "OKEH, Keele 89" on them. I treasure mine, also his daughter (then 16) was just embarking on a singing career, she had hit singles in Austrailia i think ! great nights and the best record bar in the Country at the time rob & karen

Celebrity Wife-swap
Keep an eye on this programme .ALEXANDER O'NEILL is going to be on, he'd just done filming it and had to delay his appearance at Baltic Soul by a day because of the schedule. Now although I found Alex to be very nice and polite and "chatty" , he's a strongheaded Mother F**ker and I can Just see him now saying "ALL YOU WANT TO DO IS CRITICIZE" I think this one will be a belter ! Retford Broken Wheel Club Alldayers
Good thread, I'd totally forgotten about these all-dayers and indeed Eddy Being local (Warsop near Mansfield before moving to Worksop) it was on my doorstep and I think I went twice, again if you'd asked me I though these ran more than the 3 times mentioned. They were really good. The original Broken Wheel always had an air of "Mystique" about it being one of the original Mod venues, but I think this was a different venue with the same name. Hi Eddy, I was a very young kid, but contacted you several times on the 'phone maybe early eighties, re copies of Blues & Soul and records you were selling. I seem to recall you telling me some great tales of the early scene! (nuff said !) Nice to hear you are still around and keeping an eye on things, have you seen Malc Burton is a member on here ? I don't know if you get back to Retford at all, but "The Broken Wheel" name is alive and well in yet another location, a pub on the cross roads where you turn for North Leverton. Rob.

Imagine This Casino2008
There was a thread recently that said could a WEEKLY all-nighter/venue survive now ? I doubt if ANYBODY would keep the faith as we did back in the 70's 1) We were young, enthusiastic, had OPEN minds, energy (artificially stimulated or not) and didn't have 1,000 other day to day things to do! 2) There is not the depth of "Right" records to fuel such a venue without dipping into the past. 3) You'd have to hand it back to "the Kids" to keep it going and the music would change. A weekly all-nighter COULD survive if there were no others on ANYWHERE full stop. But you would also have to have some serious DJ rotation You also would have had the "Smashie and Nicey" DJ syndrome if the Casino had carried on reguardless. Like Radio One , it had to change, our music was underground, from the street or ghetto man, un -available and un-heard outside of the clubs and all-nighters. Now its all over the place in its most popular form, Telly, radio, CDs, MP 3 downloads. It WILL go back underground, the signs are already there and it will also travel away from this Island Kingdom of ours. The Casino every week, been there and done that and loved it at the time, but I now need clean toilets, somewhere to sit (those of you who have seen the state my knees are in will understand) and a warm comfy bed within 30 miles (or less) of the venue. Thank God for Travelodge ! Rob

Soul Patches
Am I right in thinking the origins of the Soul Badge lie in The Twisted Wheel ? I seem to remember talking Bo***ck's to some "Old Boy" at Wigan one night who was telling me about having clothes made, the trousers, bowling shirts and having a BLAZER made (when did you last see anyone wearing a BLAZER who wasn't at school ?) I am pretty sure that he told me they had the badges specially made for the Blazer breast pocket, (which is akin to those Royal British Legion ex-servicemen you see marching in the Rememberance Day Parade ) I'm sure he also told me someone had some Twisted Wheel one's made in Limited Edition with REAL GOLD THREAD included Anybody know if this is true (come on old boy's we need you) If it is anyone got a picture or scan or even their original "Blazer". Surely this would be "The holy grail" of all Soul Patches Rob & Karen

A Sign Of The Times
Hi Ian But with a few thousand Northern tunes I could do some damage. When was the last time anyone played Sterling McGee's "Keep On", the Perigents "Love's On A Rampage", Peaches & Herb's "I Need Your Love So Desperately" or The Fabulous Downbeats "Life Goes On" for instance? Would they even be in the box for a gig? can you imagine someone coming to the decks, asking for something you haven't got you can say "I haven't got that with me IT'S ON MY OTHER HARD DRIVE !" ? not the same ring as "it's in my other box" God, there's TONS of stuff which is surely underplayed isn't there? A lot of the time it's 'cos the DJ doesn't have them with him or her because they only have the couple of hundred tunes which they know will be generally OK. I feel there is already a grassroots movement or trend towards these records being played with 3 Clubs I know which moving in this direction as a direct "Backlash" against overplayed oldies and VERY expensive rare or popular tunes. No big crowds, just dedicated SOUL people enjoying the records. However none of the people involved would be seen dead whipping the old Hard Drive out when stepping up to the decks

A Sign Of The Times
Is this the proof of the old saying "What goes round, comes round" ? Also this topic was being discussed on Chris Evans "drive Time" Radio 2 at 6.30 pm today, they said the CD single would be dead and gone very soon !

A Sign Of The Times
I,ve been thinking about this since I posted, how do Artist actually get the product out there these days ? promos on MP 3 with a big red A on 'em? Give me the simple life ! By the way Pete can you imagine having all your collection on a Hard drive (presume its detachable) and leaving it on a bus ? Phone call to the Lost property department "Err I've left my record collection on your No39 bus mate, anybody found it, about 300 albums ?" still blows my mind ! Rob

A Sign Of The Times
Here is a link to a news article that caught my eye today, we talk about the demise of traditional record shops, but no CD singles any more !! Wow ! look here https://uk.news.yahoo.com/vdunet/20080527/t...ia-6315470.html CDs are alive and well for album sales, but the physical singles market is in terminal decline. Rob & karen
