As Chalky once described this as "Rob Wigley's favourite oldie"-I couldn't imagine just playing a straight Instrumental out instead of the vocal as I just LOVE this record and thinking about it I think Chalky had my cream copy off me years ago so I can't play it to check !!

Max Milward a shining light from the black country, had many a conversation on the telephone and later by e-mail.
As a young lad you could only dream what a DJ like "The Blue Max" was like, a club called the Catacombes, a list of rare sounds as long as you arm, in reality he was a wonderful friendly man, "come outside and talk Rob I need a ciggie".
In all honesty, Max has been taken from us in a way he would have wanted, at a club listening to rare soul music among his many friends
Very sad news indeed, but one record that reminds me of Max is Tony Michaels "I love the life I live and I live the life I love"
RIP

No problem Rob. Just glad to put a few of you onto it while it's still cheap.
Gonna give it some hammer in the Modern room at the Bridlington weekender as it went down a storm at Morecambe for me & more so for Dodger.
Big question is though will you be brave enough to play it in the Northern room
I think it will follow "So many sides of you" a treat !

Seems some of you do listen then.
Were around a dozen of these around in the usual places like gemm, discogs & the bay when I posted this on here, all for under £20 & now they're all gone.
Thanks Mart

This is such a classy track
I wonder what market they were aiming at for it, as it is kinda cross-over Soul/Pop/Jazz/Lounge!
All done on Speed !

They have had MAJOR flooding in Nashville-early this week i think !
You'll do well for cheap stuff as above Phonolux is good-but start at the back of the store-most of us get fed up after 4 hours
I did get a Toni basil out of the stuff with no covers on for 25 cents though, if you know your RnB stuff theres tons of that as well
Happy Hunting

The one i had was a demo Dave, but the issue was first? seen at Yarmouth when the Four Tops were on, brought over by an American dealer(forgot the name) i think Ian Clark bought it then (but not certain) i actually held it!!
Steve
Eddie Holman "Found" a White demo-which he brought to Yarmouth to sell -I think he got £180 to £220 for it-pretty well worn VG ish or I'd have bought it !!
I think Teds right wioth Gary Spencer having the issue
George Sharp also owned one briefly in the early 80s-although may be one of the same copies floating around-no more than 5 in the UK at tops I'd say
An all-time want of mine on issue-silly money for this when the big guns get involved!! $5,000 + ?

I WAS CONFUSED AT THE OFFSET STEVE. I THINK NOW THOUGH ITS ABOUT SOULFUL HOUSE AND GARAGE TYPE OF 2K/MODERN SOUL RATHER THAN THE OLD AL MASONS, NICKY NEWARKERS, 70`S TYPE WHICH AT THE END OF THE DAY IS NOW NORTHERN SOUL. THE REASON I DONT DO MANY ALLNIGTERS ANY MORE IS BECAUSE I GOT SICK OF THE LACK OF VARIATION. ALL YOU SEEMED TO HEAR WAS 60`S AND ALL AT THE ONE TEMPO. WOULD BE NICE IF THE ALTERNATIVE ROOM WAS A CHILLOUT ROOM WERE ANYTHING GOES AS BOTH THE OLD R N B AND HOUSEY GARAGE ARE A BRIDGE TOO FAR FOR ME
DAVE
You have exactly the same taste as my good self Dave, although i suspect several of the former and latter genres have items you'd buy and put away for future use
at the end of the day GOOD SOUL RECORDS WILL ALWAYS RISE TO THE TOP EVENTUALLY and hopefully have their day

Trying to find the youngest person on here who got into Wigan and got past the bouncers and Hilda.....l was 16 and 9 months (crap really) my cousin (Dean W on here) was l think 15 and a few months....anybody else remember how old they were??
I took my then brother-in-law Simon Harrold at 14 and a week. (Birthday Present) and he came quite regularly until it closed
his girlfriend came later with us she wasn't quite 14 (but loked 21 !)
Jimmy lynch I think was 12 or 13 when he went with his brother jerry-who was 15 !
Rob
ps I was 15
Requests - Are They Ignored
in All About the SOUL
Posted
A fair amount of requests are generally played if I have the record in question, however if I have heard the record played during the evening I will ask the punter to pick another.
If he/she cant think i generally play something I was going to play anyway, but dedicate it to joe bloggs on his coming out party !
In a large weekender venue, I do find if you play a request early in your spot it does "open the floodgates" for people making the walk up to the decks for requests especially if they have been drinking alot-so i tend to leave them until the last 15 mins or so.
On the whole I'm very happy to play a request, especially if it fits in with what I want to/ have to play
