Weekenders....is There A Demand For A Rare Soul Weekender?
Rob Wigley replied to SallieJane's topic in All About the SOUL
hi Joan ¹I know of 2 cracking venues, but i'm affraid it's all down to costings on smaller events for the full weekend. most rare soul devotees don't blink at £1,000 for a record they want -- and obviously more £££s as well. But £100-£150 for a weekender ticket with decent accommodation brings tears to the eyes ! ¹The first Scottish Soul Weekender had the "dream team" line up-I estimated I heard £3,000,000 worth of records on the Friday night alone ! superb line up organised by Dave Thorley , trouble was no punters in the room as the Northern side thought the entry fee was too much ! I think everyone needs decent rooms, there's a few shocks coming to people at the "New" Prestatyn , it's not changed one bit..i was there in May and one of the reasons I didn't take it on. Hotel based events with two / three decent sized function rooms are what's needed for a 500 crowd , however you need to Book or reserve the whole hotel, I think Lifeline had problems at the Old Bell due to "Normal" people complaining during the wee small hours about loud music, why did the hotel take these bookings ? Chalky or Andy D will confirm these problems, nobody wants to or can afford to lose money on these ventures, least of all the venue owners who seem happy to keep a venue empty than take a risk on something new. ¹I think there is a demand on the lines of The Stafford re-union in 2010- dare I say rare oldies ? main room, plus satellite rooms playing current biggies and new discoveries all OVO of course. good luck to all Rob -
Any more details on this gig Adam ?

Anderson Brothers - I Can See Him Loving You
Rob Wigley replied to Soulfulshoes's topic in Look At Your Box
I remember buying this as an "original" back in about 76 /77 paid £8 for it then which was half a weeks wage! Is there a difinitive way of spoting the boot, i seem to remember something about the run out groove edge being raised or flat or somethin else, but cant remember if that was on the boot or orig, so basically f##kin useless info!!!! Also any idea what the original is worth nowadays? i saw the lookalike boot on here a few weeks ago for about £75????? Im not sellin it by the way, just curious! Thanks in advance for any help!!!! SAME HERE, BUT THINK MINE WAS £6... they all came in Original GSF sleeves as well, which I later discovered were "Robbed" from hit GSF records at the time purchased cheaply . They originated from New York and the person who was involved is still on here as an active member--allegedly ! They are easy to spot once you have seen an original pressing....be safe and try and find the Israeli LP to be sure.......!!!! Rob -
Records That 'book' High But Are In Reality.....poor

Good bits in it, but awful production and singing -
Hi Maark heard it was Fab last year and had an eye on it to go.... shifts / work permitting..... but as Ian says there's an awful lot on in London this "Summer" (if it ever stops raining) and for myself it would really depend on the weather if I wanted to attend .. can't hack cold muddy fields.. or freezing cold apartments come to that either ! hope it all goes well on the re-arranged date. Rob

Steve Mancha Tribute Grave Marker Dedication
Rob Wigley commented on Rob Wigley's article in News Archives
Hi kev yes it was done and all the comments received were pasted in to the memorial book mate ! -
Steve Mancha tribute Grave Marker dedication Dear Soul Source people, we have received a message from Melvin Davis in Detroit and the Marker for Steve Mancha's grave is being dedicated and laid in place tomorrow. Melvin sends his thanks to all who contributed to the Steve Mancha memorial fund in the appeal in 2011 on Soul Source. As Melvin says "If it was left to Detroit to do this then we would still be waiting and Steve's grave would have been left un-marked" A small gathering of Steve's friends will attend the dedication, along with a film crew and press and local TV. Melvin is saying prayers and will publicly thank soul fans from around the globe who contributed to the fund. Both myself and Ady wish to thank everyone who helped us to achieve this, surplus funds after all costs were given to Steve's mother, who is in a nursing home herself. There is now a permanent memorial to one of the finest voices ever to grace 45 rpm records. RIP Detroit legend Steve Mancha Rob Wigley The photo of the marker at the memorial merchants, the stone is made from Rose marble.

Favourite Dance Floor In The Uk Current Venues
Rob Wigley replied to Winnie :-)'s topic in All About the SOUL
The thing about Brid spa is 4 out of the 5 rooms are dance floors wall to wall--all Canadian Maple as well. main room at Brid is fully sprung, its also reputedly the largest sprung dance floor in Europe! My first dance on my new knee was on there as well...... I always enjoyed the challenge of the 100 Club floor is it me or does it slope as well ? Love it ! Rob -
Had about 3 or 4 pairs of Solatio shoes,2 Crossovers and two others, they were quite broad, all leather and extremely comfortable, purchased from Image on Bridalsmith Gate In Nottingham..are they still made ? Rob 1975/76 ish

A great find, he's listing all sorts including the rare and not so rare Velvet Underground 45s--making $20 to $250 a piece. Certainly 3 Tony Middletons a couple of Velours so far. All radio Station stock had to be pressed at some point and sent out to individual stations 10s of thousands in USA in the 60s. So it was somebodys job to mail them out to local record pushers such as "Ed Chips"...bound to have come from a local warehouse and probably been stripped in the past of the rare Beatles, garage, Phyc etc Good luck to him ¹ Postage is very high for individual cheaper records so not really worth doing unless you buy a lot Rob

Sad loss and would have been great for him to appear at a gig like Cleethorpes where his music would have let the crowd really show their appreciation of his work. I know Chalky did a lot of work finding him a couple of years back and always talked of meeting him and seeing him perform...sadly now to never be.....RIP Kell

Personally I assume it won't happen - and anyone trying to promote a 3,500 capacity weekender at two months notice wants their heads looking at! We're off to see Billy Connolly in Cardiff that weekend instead Where's Billy DJing Dave ?
