Jerry Leiber Death: Songwriter Dies at 78

    August 23, 2011 08:55 AM EDT

Legendary songwriter Jerry Leiber's death at the age of 78 has left many in the music industry stunned. He was most well known for his partnership with Mike Stroller. Leiber was also a member of both the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

jerry_leiber_a_p.jpgLeiber wrote such hits as Elvis' Hound Dog, Jailhouse Rock and evenStand By Me, which was sang by Ben E. King. He died on Tuesday from cardio pulmonary failure. This is obviously a sad time for the music industry. Frankly, they just don't make 'em like Leiber anymore.

Hopefully, throughout this sad time, Jerry Leiber's family and friends will know that his devote fans will always hold him dear to their hearts. His death is surely being mourned by many. Fortunately, Leiber's amazing gift will always be available.

Along with the hits they Wrote for The Drifters....a massive loss to music along side the death of Nick Ashford-I'm sorry to say it but we're getting old folks !!

    RIP Jerry.

  2. Had free run of mine as well Ken-I didn't know either -DoHHHHH !

Ian -he was always one step ahead of everyone-you could never quite prove it !

But things would "Go missing" when he was around......... he was finally caught red handed by John Manship at Yarmouth..

a copy of Heart trouble mysteriously disappeared from a dealers box only to re-appear behind the wardrobe in his room

There's a lot of it about at the moment..........

  3. I once played a set off some tatty old cds at soul in the sun and they clapped ,

It made me feel suicidal and couldnt live with myself ,

but r angie talked me round , she said your no dj, but you know your music, anyway she said she didnt want me to turn into a superstar dj playin monster awsome sounds like they do now :hatsoff2:

If you didn't have OVO in Soul in the sun Barney -did the people go to the "Clap Clinic" before Clapping ?

  4. Not sure when i first heard this but think it was Danny Everard who played it c/u i bought one of Mick Smith in 1989 £100 quid i think. first played it at The Top of the stairs soul club the Central cannock the response was fantastic so good in fact i played it at the end as well. one of the best non coloured soul records imo

Quite true Ted and he did cover it as a male.... I also know where he got it from for £8.00.... Big sound instantly at the Fleet all-nighters...more cover ups than a News of the World phone hacking scandal in those dayslaugh.gif , Gary Spencer, Carl fortnum, Danny Everard and myself were all at it !!

Also remeber Eric |Philips turning one up...wanted £40 for it.

and added value because its Dale Wintons favourite record as well--just a great record with the twist of a tragic story on Timi Yuro

  5. For me, Modern & Northern have always gone hand in hand and a "JUST Modern" nighter would not work. The only "All Modern nighter" I can recall ever going to (since joining the nighter scene in 87) was Jollies in Stoke in 1999, and fantastic as it was, it didn't get the numbers as the majority of the "strictly" modern crowd do not want an all-nighter, other than at weekenders.

I believe the Dom Polski Club was the first Modern All-nighter in the 1980s down Bedford way ?? Think I'm right but will be open to correction !

We can all live (& dance) in peace & harmony  x
