  1. Mid spot -- very recently -- a lady asked if I could play something by Nolan Porter---- I pointed at the deck to the record which was playing and about half way through--- "If I could only be sure".. oh have you got anything else by him ? Are they deaf as well as thick ? Rob
  2. Must have gone on holiday to Wigan then cos he played it there.. :lol:From a time Pete, Samatha's was Friday Night all-nighter, then he'd do Saturday night at Wigan, think he'd finished at Wigan before Sammy's closed. told me some great stuff about a DJ spending the night in the Cell's at Wigan over a stolen record..around 1974.....
  3. and the point of the above and to keep on topic, is that they were all known as Samantha's Records, when Sammy's shut- Zola went with it !
  4. ...and what did he say? Just that records like those instrumentals "of the day" could never be played on the scene today-not even as oldies and become as "Big" as they were then---he also mentioned "Zola" another forgotten about tune that quite frankly sounds F***ing awful now. However he told me the story about how he first played "The champion"..and that went on to become a classic !
  5. Was talking to John Vincent about "Scratchy" just a couple of weeks back ! and records "From a time" that would not get the light of day now... Rob
  6. Nice to note that Tommy will be 80 this year !
  7. Each to his own, ironically as i sit in what used to be my "record" room, before the thieving B****ds stole my collection, I am looking as Blues and Souls Nos 1 to 300 here on the floor, I think it lost its way when Disco appeared and when they went "Weekly" to compete with (Black) Echoes ... Also the burger vans a copy...Mark Bicknell had his first !¬ Rob
  8. A truly bad week for artists passing, Rescue Me is woven into the soul fabric of the North, a record I danced to at school discos before I even knew what Northern Soul was or why I liked the record so much. A great voice, very bad news RIP Rob x
  9. Japanese Press Dave ? have you a scan ?
  10. Could be Debbie Dee ? She's a fantastic dancer away from "The Scene" as well... Rob
  11. LOL just as I posted the link appeared Thanks !
  12. You got a buyers link to who's selling them please ?
  13. :thumbsup:Tell him to F**k off
  14. Agree Terry 4 Seasons every time ! -Timebox is a straight copy- but crossed into the Scene via Mod / Scooter exposure and the scene likes a nice UK issued rarity ! But Kev is reflecting on Dance floor reaction on todays scene and its a PACKER where ever you go ! Rob
  15. Hi Pete Glad I saw this was only thinking about you the other day and wondering when you'd be around. keep your chin up pal and you have a lot of mates who are missing you Rob
  16. I was on a train from Swinton last year and one of the "dancers" at the Blue Minx tried to dodge her fare --£2.35 by offering the conductor a £50 note, he said ok but she could get her change from Sheffield booking office in the morning--she soon found the right money ! Another one bites the dust is the Carpet Warehouse still there
  17. Not the "Blue Minx" Lap dance club anymore then Martin--are you sure you are not getting mixed up with Canklow ?
  18. "‹At the time of building in the 1930s Brid Spa was deliberately built with EUROPE'S largest sprung Ballroom dance floor . I am reliably told the previous holder was Blackpool Winter gardens. Brid must still be the UKs largest permanent Dance floor, plus since renovation the floors are continuous throughout the building as well. I saw Oasis at Brid Spa and there were 3,500 people in the room, mainly on the dance floor in front of the stage. Largest crowd at Prestatyn was 3,750 but when the acts were on they were crammed in everywhere, record bar, those 700 seat at the back and on the carpeted areas down either side-- its a big floor but possible only 2/3 rds the size of the Spa.... Rob
  19. Thanks Stevie and yes I knew him RIP Dave x

  21. "‹Held in high esteem by all who visited Heard many tales of Shenanigans by all local suspects ! before my time , but I did go to the Paracoustic to meet a girl from the Folk House Dangerous territory to a Warsop lad ! Rob
