Fabulous read Dave, extremely pleased that you rescued these wonderful UK 45s !
Shudder to think what could have happened to them if the basement succumbed to damp or even a flood !
Well done

Rob Marriott had this early doors too, I assumed his was Jim's copy, however he may have got it via Keb.
Always liked it and still have a copy. I see Jordan Wilson is playing it as it's been listed in several of his recent sets.
A great record

Can anyone explain to me why I have it in my head that the entrance to M's was off the left side of the main room balcony.....almost no lighting on the walk to the door, then seemingly darker still when you got inside the place.
Off the main room balcony left hand side (as you looked at the stage) - through a door that took you into another reception area - then doors on the right hand side lead into the dance hall / floor beside the stage - at the end of the reception area in the left hand corner was the stairs / not very wide - even skinny it was hard to pass - that lead up to M's balcony - stage end - if you walked around the balcony - there was another staircase the far end that took you back down to dance floor level Mr M's - I think
I remember a very narrow staircase in Mr Ms, remember feeling un well one night and went up there to rest my head, I dont think I ever found it again !!?

You'll like this.... not on drink or drugs..... my dog Tosh's , best friend is called Butch (no not Mark Dobson, either would be a daft name for a dog). His owner, Jean, went to the Gliderdrome and saw a young lad called Stevland Hardaway Morris who came on and did, or pretend to, trip over the microphone cord, saying 'sorry i didn't see that there'!
I know someone who went to the Stevie gig at the Gliderdrome and tells that exact same story !
Trust you're keeping well Simon !

Maybe a lookalikey mocked up for the clip? Nevertheless, a seriously important disc back in the day and of course, a big spin at the finale. Enjoyed the whole segment.
Looks like a UK Motown Copy (It has a black solid centre) with a poor photo copied label stuck on top !

Remember reading this at the time as a 16 year old Div ! Great to read again, though its amazing in some respects how politically incorrect it appears nowadays ! (Fat Northerner and Blacks), catches the essence of the time and some things that only an outsider would notice about the way we behaved (and still do)
Love it

Hi Steve

Page 27
contains the "100 Club" feature I was talking to Derek about at the Wardrobe.
Not the 100 Club in London, but records that were reaching 3 figures back then mid 80's !
Mind blowing stuff !

WOW, my memory must really be going as I didn't list the Dells @ Trentham Gardens in my top live show list ... a magic night when you just couldn't believe what you were seeing. A great performance by a brilliant soul group.
THAT VOICE when Marvin Junior walked out on to the stage to join the others !

A very sad day indeed, a unique talent, a vast and varied career, mainly as a backing singer, she must have sung on thousands of records over the las 60 decades.
A frequent visitor to UK shores since the 1980’s, loved by everyone who knew her both here and back in Detroit.
I first met her, like many, at Chris Kings Ric-tic Review all nighter at Hinckley leisure centre. January 1983 and many times after!
I’ve just had a thought that I think she was the last one of the artist to pass away ! Off to perform at the great show in the sky.
RIP Pat Lewis and Edwin Starr, Al Kent, Lou Ragland, JJ Barnes xx
