  1. remember john vincent?....even now john has a penchant for spinning backing tracks, but he will be remembered nonemoreso than at the casino in its formative years...i suppose we now class this as being "leftfield" but in 73-75 john played some wierd and wonderfully odd-ball tunes....best of all, "the miami sound" by the gladiators which had a intro that sounded like a flutewhistle in an echo chamber. naturally, this was a cover-up for jack23 by the centuries on leopard records, an undoubted r&r stormer but with the right frenetic pace to satisfy the speed induced dancers at station road and believe me, this tune rocked 1800 people back then, all clapping in unison as any surviving cassette tape from that era , will testify. if john's earwiggin...does he still possess the infamous disc?....guy hennigan was another, and i think he still has an acetate of the valentino's "sweeter than the day before" instr., is it the only? the agent..."in trouble"
  2. knew someone out there would have the answer, now can it be located anywhere for sale or is it long since out of publication?
  3. Can any of you astute detroit anoraks help me locate a book( softback/glossy ) issued during the 80's/90's u.s. distribution only i believe. its purely photographic and is a rare insight into the motown family at work and play, the snaps being entirely taken by the stars, musicians and staff at motown.if i remember correct they are both colour and monotone. not sure who the print/distributor is and if it is long since deleted, i know that i have only ever seen it once, cant even recollect the title, therefore, this is either easy or a needle....so lets see who the agents are amongst you.
  4. may and i collect books and in somewhat of a precise manner....now this includes your fine dining cooks so it goes without saying we also watch everything in respect to this.so feasting your eyes on a book about the northern soul culture means it has to be a classy glossary, much in the same way as the michelin star tells you its something out of the ordinary. it gives me great pleasure to impress upon all who read this line, that this mightily impressive edict should adorn the shelves of all and sundry. price is an irrelevance, the time spent browsing it is far more precious. neil rushton, the archityal midland scribe, so genuinly in love with this wonderful music of ours, has conjured for your delights a restoration...a collage encompassing everything relevant to our understanding of a scene so uniquely created by us. the pictures leap out from the page like yesterday, reminding each and every one us who still lives and breathes, that we have worn the northern soul scene like a coat of many colours. northern soul stories, is like the birth of a new dish from the hands of ramsay, kitchen, waring, roux or fairlie, it stands out, proclaiming itself to be a cut above the others yet, it deserves accolades far beyond the reach of us mere mortals.in 2010 it will stand as a bench mark, by which others will aspire to gain greater recognition for a music we have held close to our hearts for over 4 decades. neil rushton is a genuine guy with a true heart and he has given us the storybook of our lives, our generations and has portrayed it with breathtaking speed of enthusiasm..."northern soul stories is not just a matter of life or death...its far more important than that" rob.h

  10. its all in the matrix mate!...rob haigh in telford. those were the days pete, you didnt have to go to usa when great tunes were lurking right under your nose!. couldnt believe i was seeing this...AGAIN this year as, john manship auctioned one 4 or 5 months ago so its possible its even rarer than the wand release. keep in touch and keep your eyes peeled for a vicky baines-country girl. incidently, i distinctly remember mick derry playing "times gone by" and calling it "you didnt say a word" at the wulfrun hall around 78, that has to be before richard. my reasoning is based on the fact, that mick was peps prodigy and he bought loads of unknowns off him, then proceeded to play them at birmingham locarno....and of course because stuff like this had previously been unheard...even at wigan....they cleared the floor. mick was ahead of his time when you consider he was playing joannie sommers, carol and gerri, barbara jackson-"big man" syng mcgowan e.t.c., 3 YEARS BEFORE THE CASINO GOT THEM. now then, theres a topic to start.....WHATEVER HAPPENED TO MICK DERRY?. he used to live in chase terrace with his mom and brother. i personally, havent seen him for at least 6 years, last occasion at the kings hall where he was selling records....before that,...over 20 years......
  11. BLIMEY!, could this be the man from wombourne?...and more to the point , this karma indie....i remember one saturday afternoon in max's shop in wednesfield circa 1977-78 and cruising through boxes of records and finding a copy of this...and purchasing it for the princely sum of £8!!. of course, like so many i never grasped the relevance of what you could now call, antique collecting, hence your minimum offer....so whats the chance, pete, that this record may be my original copy?....CHANNEL D IS OPEN
