A function wouldn't be a function without Classic and Quality oldies...there a myriad of instances where great tunes aren't getting prominence...or perhaps that's for the good?, stay fresh, still have resonance with folk...the ' i haven't heard that for a good while ' incidence... Sure it would be greatly appreciated if mine modern room hosts would put together a modern montage for on here?....So Soulful 70's thru the now sound, an eclectic selection of past and present....c'mon team...lets have a room 3 deposition!
-
Ooooh!......just a few more ' Classics '?
-
You'll do better than that girlie, in good company...you know the ropes X
-
You're welcome Natalie and we're sure you're going to put it a top set, anticipated as it is, plus..two west midlanders contributing!
-
Bob, most certainly did, 3 copies i think he got, you had one off him?, the story was hilarious!, but Barry can relate that
-
Never can tire of this, and sure to make an appearance from Mr. Shirley's box!
-
Bob, Tim thinks it may have been Dave Flynn
-
Yeah, there's probably that as well...being retired affords that situation for those who still want to do nighters....affording them is another thing, i suppose you could say in some cases it's cheaper than some soul nights....if you can pace yourself, still relatively fit and won't mind sunday being a wipe out, then ok
-
Bob, remember this back in around 98?, instrumental were being played...stormer....probably first heard the vocal at 100 club via Mick Smith

We're all older, whether we like it or not and if our interest in niters is curbed or diminshed, it's no wonder....i think the scene for us in general now, is coming full circle and a good many are content to attended soul nites, or even afternoons midweek...which points to the fact retirement age has been reach by a broad spectrum of the soul scene and those folks see it as a more comfortable setting, no rush to get home in the dark...they can even jump on the bus!. Soul nites by and large, never really lost their popularity, even when we were opinionated enough to say they were....we were saying that with the advent of weekenders and foreign week long excursions. Of course the latter has prevailed big style....but when folks come home, it's more than likely the preference is for a soul night, as opposed to the thought of trying to last out to 6am....like all the cricket formats....the traditional 3 day game has suffered because of 2020 and odi. Niters just won't pull enough folk, there's loads of strands to the arguement. In defence, it's always been an outlet for a goodly amount of djs to get on the same bill at the same time. My preference for a proper thought out soul night, is a promoter who offers everyone a chance to dj. Most soul nites consist of 2 rooms anyway, there's no need for a whole bunch of residents, the whole idea of keeping the formats fresh is to line up a conveyor belt of guests, with their own individual record collections, which guarantees something different from everyone, and keeps punters interested whereby, theyre not hearing the same ole trotted out consistantly.

Going to be interesting reading when the dj past faves and current selections are posted, and a bit more insight, regards what to expect on the day, no fillers..just killers!, those sorts of tunes that you generally wouldn't hear played at traditional standard soul nights...but this is what Culcheth's mantra is, in line with what's on offer elsewhere in the calendar month..and there certainly are some good standard bearers out there, Ashton Uky being a consistant topic of conversation...our good friend, Mick Howard lends that venues brand to this occasion and many of the line up here, including our host, have entertained there too. It's also great to see a fully fit Sam back behind the decks, still as vibrant and enthusiastic as he's always been, with some A list sounds in tow to bend the connoissuers ears and get the dancefloor afficianados working up some sweat. We certainly hope and expect the continuing proliferation of views on here to transfer to an impressive attendance figure so, if you definitely like the look of this, clear down your calendar and accept no substitutes for an appearance here...you certainly won't regret it...and you will almost certainly remember it for years to come!
-
WHAT A STAGGERINGLY GOOD LINE-UP, and a big to our Baz for making this happen. C'mon now folks, pull yer fingers out!, supporting this epic event goes without saying. I can't imagine any reason for tunes to be repeated in ANY of the rooms, with the collections at the disposal of this set of djs? Play hasn't got underway and we're looking at one of the highlights of the year already!, this surely has to appeal to all points of the compass so, if there's a good many of you, of a mind to travel a good distance, then dkn't make it a rushed weekend...take the sensible precaution of checking out here, the list of hotels with accommodation available within a short radius.

One cannot mess about with serious subjects, such as pies Bob...particularly when there are descerning scholars of the crust like Mr. Cunliffe, a life long Leyther of note!
-
Off piste so, apologies but.... I have quoted the wrong suppliers of pies. I asked the question and was rapidly informed, what was served on Friday night at Terry's 70th, actually came from T & T Sargeant of Leigh. Ive subsequently checked out the website and its 100% correct so, apologies for misleading information! From Top Food to Top Tunes and a diverse and succulent menu on offer in 3 rooms...or is that 3 courses, including dessert?....certainly a feast and anticipating the forthcoming details regards line-ups and times....reserve yer tables now!....and yer spot on the dancefloor

100% correct Pete, you've been doing the original venue a lot longer than me, i remember attending Lowton on a couple of occasions in 2000/1, then not again until Richard and Ginger relaunched it. That lasted 7 years. I got involved helping Baz when he took over promoting it....same as we did the last 3 years of Prestwich..it was hard work but no regrets. Barry Maleedy is true blue, heart on the sleeve dedicated to soul and quality at that! hence, always intuitive line-ups of folk who he knows have great retrospective and uptodate collections as well...and not necessarily time served veteran djs..and he keeps a constant rota of guests, as in our brothers at Ashton. That's why " Same Ole " dosn't apply to Culcheth..it carries on Lowton's tradition: leading from the front.
