  8. " Back To The Future" 60's n 70's Soul style!, clothing is optional, but its all about the music that got our attention, a different way of life and an alternative from the run of the mill pop market...this scene had its roots firmly in the 60's but it took til the 70's for it to explode on the nation...and there were certainly a mass of youth clubs where people wanted to hear these tunes, when the mobile dj had s night of entertainment. I witnessed that, first hand at St Giles ( Sammies ) in Willenhall, west mids, where i originate from...thr mobile djs were punters theirselves, exploring the world of soul music, at the Torch, Twisted Wheel, Chateau Impney, Va Vas, Dungeon, Mojo, Noght Oel, Pendulum. UP The Junction...all points North, South, East and West.....the mobile jocks did their best to buy the tunes of the time and blend them in with the current soul music coming out of the States.....And they began their own soul night in local pubs, alongside their youth club bookings. So you see....this is starting at the beginning again, reappraising how it all began for us. Just come along, enjoy the nostalgia, feel the vibes, have a good time...its FRIDAY....THE WEEKEND STARTS RIGHT HERE!️️️️️
  9. In the larger scale of things Andy, its nothing new really, other than this neck of the woods ( where we happen to live, dosnt have anything going on or, any history for that matter.....unless you count the historical stand point, which tells you it was a roman/viking/saxon/norman settlent in that order and that its street names reference the crusader/knights Templar period. The nearest other soul night is Kippax, which is now hosted at Garforth WMC.
  10. Aside from the djs, i think there's still universal respect for John Anderson...and he's been done getting on for 3 years now...his contribution was integral...thats not to say others wouldnt have turned up the stuff that he did, but he trawled the States, when others simply didnt have the time or the knowledge where to look...he was out there before Levine, but whereas Ian scored hits, John was in it for the long haul, he made a business out of it...so many djs playlists benefitted from his inclusions. I have massive respect for the likes of Tim Brown, Henry Atkinson, Martin Koppel and Mick Smith....these guys have made massive contributions to the market place and in many regards, have broken tunes too, and it goes without saying: they would voice their praise of John too.
  11. Any dj worth his/her salt, plays to the crowd, not theirselves, that the first rule. I cant fathom the age group of who has contributed so far but, if youve served your time on the scene, as the djs have, then you'll probably know them and how they work. Without doubt, Colin is full on with the scene, as he has been from day 1, and he's always maintained this forward progression at a staggering pace. His spectrum of black music is ever broadening...he really is one of the hardest working guys i know, or anyone else for that matter, he's certainly been at the helm of Northern Soul in its formative years, and ' broke ' many tunes, whether incumbent of c/up status or not. He's played the venues that matter and probably everywhere else in the soul pyramid. I haven't said he's the best, but there's no doubt his reputation precedes him, he's one of our greatest. Perhaps its better we're all just grateful the way our icons have graced the scene and served us
  12. Endlessly memories, made for this occasion!
  13. More Classic Sounds of the 60's!
  14. Its SHREWSBURY'S BEST KEPT SECRET....The Masonic Hall, in CREWE STREET, just off Ellesmere Road, a lovely dancefloor, atmospheric room with a low ceiling which allows great accoustics....the venue is inside a decomissioned church!
  15. Love attending this venue, and we've such good friends here too...and its great to get behind the decks here as well!. Attendances over the last 5 to 6 months have been superb, always busy and always an appreciative and knowledgeable crowd, deffo not hard to please!. Hope to the local gang out in force plus plenty of people from further afield Russ and Mark do such a fantastic job in making this probably Shropshire's most popular soul night, almost 16 years now, cant be bad!!, the playlists constantly change so you're always guaranteed to hear things that may be new, or just not heard out for a long time, ill endeavour to make sure i do just the same.
