  1. I know, I am hoping that it is more about the film itself. Just bugged that the retro crowd always have to steam in.
  2. What's with the hand Steve?
  3. From the clip it looks like the Culture Show's representation is of (surprise surprise) the retro soul scene ; middle aged people dressed like throwback teenagers listening to the same records and going on and on and on about Wigan Wigan Wigan even though they probably only went once on a coach trip. I think I'll give it a miss. I am , however, looking forward to Elaine's film , and the book looks excellent.
  4. I would be happy with latin all night....maybe I will have to start my own night haha
  5. look up.....mcfly!!!!
  6. Little Sonny is also my favourite, with Marlena Shaw closely behind.
  7. It was easy knowing every record at Parr Hall....they all came up as "next record" on the big screen haha :-)
  8. Yes it was Ian Jackson, Jools has a bad memory, it's her age (Is thst enough smilies btw? )
  9. Really sad news, he always made me laugh and the soul scene will miss him. R.I.P and my condolences to his nearest and dearest x
  10. I think it's just that men are naturally more train spotter like and competitive...mine's bigger than yours etc. I collect a bit, not so much as I used to but I wouldn't ever want to dj and I have a loathing for the record bar since my early days at niters when I was either ripped off or patronised anytime I went anywhere near one.
  11. Sounds like Prestatyn ha ha
  12. I was always too warm! Either that or falling on my ass on the world's slippiest dance floor. Was great fun tho, met lots of friends there :-)
  13. A bit of a dump? Lol...yep it was fab at Sherries
  14. Ha ha! Brilliant. My in-laws are into Northern, they go out on the Soul Scene in Wales, they are kind of returnees I guess. Into oldies, cds with a million tracks and a car sticker saying "johnsons' talc, it's a northern soul thing..". They are lovely people but it makes me cringe. I got into the soul scene as I obviously loved the music but also because it was exciting, mysterious...allniters were an adventure. Now it is very middle aged and I include myself in that even though I am probably on the younger side. it just doesn't have that "oomph" for me anymore I'm afraid to say
  15. I'm not sure whether to go to the Beat Boutique alldayer in Chorlton...OR go mad and get the train to London Town for Filthy Soul...!
  16. A great loss, 70 is no age. He had throat cancer I believe, my dad died from that last year....the poor man, he must have really suffered. The weird thing is I was cleaning out the record room just yesterday and I came across a picture sleeve of "Solid" that I bought as a child-complete with my name in biro on the label... They don't make em like Nick anymore, never again will anybody produce such genius as ANMHE. R.I.P Nick.
  17. did they used to have Mod nights there arund the back end of the 80s? Sure I recall going there on the way back from the Exmouth mod rally with the Blackpool lot-Roly and Andy and Dougie from Stockport.... I am probably confusing it but it sounds really familiar...Kirsty?
  18. Weird thread, I honestly can't see how anybody could say Cee Lo is a bad singer. You may not like the music style, lack of obscurity or the fact that not just you knows who he is..... but the lad can sing. I saw him on Jools Holland (okay kill me I watched it, there was nowt else on honest ) , he sang Reet petite and did a reet good job. He obviously doesn't really belong at an out and out Northern night but neither does some of the more funky stuff I've heard out, some of which definitely has aspects of the emperors new Clothes as somebody said earlier!! Whatever floats your boat I guess
  19. I think that maybe by Sun Sea and Soul people are hinting more in the direction of Soul in the Sun :-) And I believe there is a Soul Curise now? To be honest I'm not a big fan of hot weather so I wouldn't fancy a week in Tenerife listening to Soul every night but on the other hand I do keep meaning to go to a Spanish event... ..Movin on and the one in Valencia especially sound good! Edu, when is the best time to come when it isn't too hot for a lightweight like me who prefers not to remove her jacket
  20. Well I always said Barbara Mason but that went a couple of years ago. I would say my Detroit Spinners collection as it isn't worth owt so will never have to get rid of it :-)
