  1. darrow fletcher, pain gets a little deeper....about £15 from YankS in Manchester in the mid to late 80S-it was a lot then!
  2. Get rid of it-it's for babies' bums only I can't stand it when people sprinkle it every 2 minutes plus it wrecks your shoes and I end up falling on my arse as the floor's too slippy! It's likea drug to some people-one friend of mine would insist on driving round every late shop and Spar in the vicinity before an all niter to get her fix! The other week at the Greatstone one woman was literally sprinking the stuff as she danced and people were choking. Like Davie said, get some decent leather soled shoes and you don't need it:angry:
  3. My personal favourite for originality and not confirming to the usual bald man shuffle..(he has a very healthy head of hair) I will nominate Mr BearSoul...and not just because he's watching this thread at the moment
  4. I must say that I haven't had the pleasure but I seem to recall some kind of food programme comparing the two and they came very close. As a big fan of pies (no jokes please!!!!) I will have to search them out I am going to get lynched by him indoors for coming on here talking about food instead of record labels
  5. 70s stuff always goes down well at weddings-Detroit Spinners (I'll be around?) , Ojays, Delfonics, Harold Melvin, David Ruffin, Heatwave.....that's my collection down to a tee At my wedding we had lots of folks come down and play what they wanted (was quite funny seeing my mum approach Tony Jackson and Paul Havakin to ask for some Westlife....) and it was great to be able to have exactly what you wanted played rather than listen to usual wedding poo!
  6. Pooles Pies are from Wigan and are what they used to sell at Central park They are probably the best pies in the world..never mind those Hollands imposters
  7. It's just a cafe ffs, what are you all getting your knickers in a twist about?
  8. Me too (substitute Sneakers with Hayling Island, Brighton etc).....also Berts Apple Crumble and S'hmon Happy Days!
  9. She's the reason I didn't watch it...she's a bit one dimensional for me.
  10. I bought a couple of records of a chap in Hull who was a very nice man-he sent the best sales CD and the records were spotless and very cheap....however I now have no recollection of his name or who he is (was off Gemm) which is a bit annoying as there's a couple of tracks on the CD that I don't know Any ideas anybody?
  11. You're right of course-it's just that these tracks remind me of the sort of things Richard played in his golden era for me which was Parkers Hotel in Mcr. While I'm on though-I've got the Thelma Jones on the LP but I think there was a 45 release? Can you help?
  12. Dunno about at the moment but I hate that horrible bloody thing "If you don't come....." Patience Valentine the vocal is about as horrible as anything you could ever hear including that Poison record Gary mentioned on the guilty pleasures thread
  13. A few he's played over the years that are favourites of mine include: How Long -Thelma Jones It happens every time - Barbara McNeir Don't walk away - General Johnson Will think of some more in a mo
  14. You can get a copy of Gil Scott Heron's Pieces of a man on CD from Amazon for around a fiver. Worth having even if you already have the Lp I think https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pieces-Man-Gil-Sco...4578&sr=8-3
  15. Bobby Reed-pricy but I suppose you get good value for money with two great sides. Just wish it would drop a bit...about a tenner would suit my current budget
  16. I like both, got them both too as I'm a big fan of the Four Tops-probably my favourite male vocal group.....along with the Impressions and...forget that there's far too many I remember lots of clapping along to Can't seem to get you out of my mind at niters about 20 years ago...that sticks in my mind for some reason
  17. Oops, that's me then-I love Fred Perry t-shirts even though I've been wearing em on and off for the last 25 years-I found a picture of myself in about 1981 in my mum's back garden wearing a Fred Perry t-shirt and jumper in my Jam days.....then I realised I've got nearly the same outfit now! As The Nut said I'm not going to be wearing floral smocks or anything floaty until I'm at least 80. I did wear a skirt at Cleethorpes last year though-with a Fred Perry of course

  21. I have a car with a tape deck (although I'm eventually going to get it changed to CD...it's on the list). We've made tapes at home, bought various dodgy compilations from charity shops and have now reached the point where we're resorting to a mix of Smooth FM and Talk Radio. Does anybody have any decent soul compilation tapes they are willing to copy or donate to a good home for the price of postage/and or a couple of pints if you're ever in the Manchester area? I've tried ebay and various other music sites but not having much luck finding much in tape format. Cheers, Reggie
  22. Thanks! I do fancy the Soul Shakers event in April but I'm having a baby the week before so I think I'll be otherwise engaged My husband has been suggesting a trip to Germany for ages now so the Hamburg weekender comes just at the right time
  23. Any ideas on where to get cheap flights to Hamburg?
  24. In the eighties I was guilty of two of the popular fashion fads-shorts worn together with sweat wristbands and also dungarees! A couple of lads at Warrington and Morecambe used the wear the headbands as well...not a good look I can't imagine that's a look that you could carry off into your 50s
  25. Kevin, I would contact Mr Cato (Little Stevie) on here. He's the best person to show you the sights, nights and record shops around Manchester. He also runs a night every other Sunday at the Bay Horse in the Northern Quarter which I'm sure you'd enjoy
