  1. Mmmm, then again although I think it's a great idea then there's the vetting process,lol...are you CRB checked etc??? There was a time when I would get in a car/on the back of a scooter with any old shower.... Seriously,we all know who we know I suppose and should only take risks sensibly I promise if you come in the car with me the only thing I'll take you for is petrol money
  2. This a great idea...! Apart from the petrol costs (a tenner used to last me a few days running around now I'm running on fumes after a couple of days....) it would be very handy for somebody like me who likes a few drinkies when out and about Re the credit crunch and records-I'm not selling much at the moment on ebay, seems a bit slow. I'm still buying but I stopped buying big ticket items years ago...the last 45 I got cost me a quid
  3. Updated and quick bump before they go on ebay. Cheers Reggie
  4. Think I'm a bit older than you Jayne...just, lol.....we used to go to Mod alldayers and nights in Manchester in the early-mid 80s when we were 15/16 at Cloud Nine and the Berlin club...I remember it from then you see

  6. I understand it to mean female, mid tempo sweet soul as opposed to the more big vocal records...so I wouldn't include Marie Knight or Linda Jones records for example. Although I've probably got it wrong...Chrissie???

  8. Sorry but I can't get visions of Benidorm out of my head Soulies in swimwear? I break in to a cold sweat when people take their shirts off at Cleggy
  9. Yep it is rubbish, not mighty keen on the original though really! Re the Orwell, I don't think anybody has claimedthat it's upfront...as Adam says,it's more like a trip to the local boozer that just so happens to play some great tunes from all eras. There's no "if you don't come here then you know nowt" about this particular venue I'm glad to say
  10. Yep! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Midnight-Mover-Bob...k/dp/1844541487
  11. We've touched on fantastic stories/legends concerning our soul heroes. My personal favourite, Bobby Womack, had escapades galore....how can you top having a secret affair with you wife's daughter.... Come on then you in the know! What's your favourite legend about a legend????
  12. ooo ah ooo ooo..... oops just realised that mace just posted nearly the same thing! he he...20 years after first hearing this song I still can't resist singing it whenever I have...a stomach ache
  13. Bobby Womack didn't want them to record it at all, Sam Cooke tried to talk him into it and he never actually agreed to it. Apparantly after the royalty cheques started coming in tried his best to get them to cover another of his tracks!! Anyway maybe we should have another thread for great tales about soul artists...and leave the "urban" to the kids eh .
  14. Oh bog off, just cos I don't agree with you means I'm an old codger.... it's bland unchallenging pop music at best but there really is no need to try and educate me further as I'm sure plenty of people will buy it as they really don't know any better.
  15. Im not the oldest of codgers but I don't like it at all. Why? Well the singing style is dreadful, like most female "R&B" singers nowadays she does insist on warbling and trilling like a demented Mariah Carey and surely this is a song that is good enough without a thousand unnecessary notes. I'm sure Bobby is loving having an attractive young lady do one of his songs (I've read his book, lol!!!)

    Denise Lasalle

When you think of out and out soul records this gem always pops into my mind.
  17. Hi Mandy long no see, hope you're well! Have you tried modculture? if not I could ask for you. Otherwise just do what I always do (cos like you I never have the cash when things are announced)..just go down on the night and get one off a tout, I can't see them asking for more than a tenner extra.... Cheers and maybe see you soon! Reggie x
  18. Thought it was brill...the kids laughed when they saw Uncle Steve on the telly in his duffel coat It will be on again I reckon, check the listings, may even be repeated tonight on one of the 4/more4 type channels I imagine.
  19. So long as you call it YorkSoulTrain you're fine.....nowt he can do. Bit like the Detroit Spinners Scenario. Or you could tell him it's too late too turn back time......
  20. I've posted on this before but I was just thinking about some of the lads that used to go - Nick Stevenson, Mr Phoenix etc but also a lad called Chris Morgan (not Bearsoul) and another lad called Nige from Urmston and Paul Murphy from Culcheth who was my Warrington sort of boyfriend for a while, lol! A load of us had our own little chill out area in a side storage room off the main room that was full of chairs piled up,,,I can remember I'd be in my shorts eating ice lollies ( ) and it was freezing so I'd go out every now and then for a dance to Harvey Mason or lee Otis Valentine (The Hytones) to warm up. Happy Days
  21. I do tend to go to a night if djs are on that I like. Although it may be that the reason I go anyway is because the residents are decent. For example, Sam is resident at Broughton Wings and I go there from time to time because it's easy to get to, the in-laws live nearby etc but also because I like Sam and the other djs and they have some decent guests on( and the beer is v.cheap...). Some djs like Sam are working every weekend so they probably hardly every go anywhere as a punter. I've got an half decent record collection but I don't expect (or want) to be asked to dj at a venue just because I go there regularly. Everybody wants to be a dj or northern soul celebrity these days...even if they've only got a couple of dozen records that cost a tenner each
  22. 6. Excess talcum power is required even on a polished dancefloor. Take great care to sprinkle it at every opportunity until you have ruined the shoes of everybody around you.
  23. Ring em, they definitely had em last time I was in as we have diferent colours for different genres...eg green for doo wop ...we have a lot of green
  24. Beatin Rhythm in Manchester do coloured sleeves
