Must have been totally different to when we went the other time then. They actually played Interplay! And the idiot screens telling you what record's playing....like I don't know who sings Right Track...Whatever turns you on ,horses for courses etc. Actually spoilt the nice memories of the niters there. For me anyway.

I went to the venue Nsoulxx mentioned a few months ago and I don't think the door staff or promoters are watching what's going on at all. One guy repeatedly pestered her following her around all over the place. When I suggested we tell the security staff I was told not to by the people we were sitting with as he "didn't mean any harm...he does it all the time...don't want to upset him". I didn't feel comfortable at all,felt more like a dodgy nightclub. Pisspots all over the dancefloor too...and not just me before anybody(Steve) says! Went to Barry's night at the bar over the road later and it was a 100 times better!

Love the thread but most of this isn't real disco. I know about bloody disco before anybody comes on says I don't...(don't mention R&b).. Sorting the rugrats out but will post some tracks in a bit x

Struggling with it on my phone. I really would like to support this as I've seen a couple of the shows and was really impressed. Will try my best to remember at 10 tomorrow :-)

Penny, I just don't always like hearing some of the earlier stuff...that's all. The ted comment was based on my reality...if you grew up with Rock around the clock on repeat you may understand what I meant! :-)

I can defend myself and already have done so. I never said I hated R&B. Ever. So I will bow out now from this silly thread...I didn't think it was supposed to be serious to be honest.

When did I say I hated R&B? Did you read what I said? To be accused of not liking black music based on what I said in a light hearted way about a rock and roll record is rather extreme.

I do like early R&B as long as it has the more bluesy sound.. It's when it sounds more rock and roll/country it seems a bit alien at a soul/mod night. Richard Berry for example-I know that it doesn't get played that much on the mod scene anymore but there was a time when it did a lot and I have still heard it at NS nights (and not in an R&B room). My dad was a ted and he liked that song . It all sounds a bit Darts to me haha Horses for courses I guess

I hear records like Richard Berry and Patience wotsit and I think that's a step too far...I didn't even like hearing that on the mod scene. But I love latin so some would argue that has no place on the northern scene either. I like RNB to the extent of Bobby Bland Yum Yum Tree, Baby Washington Move on...but any more rocky/c&w I'm gone.

Me and nlsoulxx used to knock around with Elaine a bit in the 80s, she's from Bury. We used to go to the Parr Hall,Twisted Wheel to name a couple. Not that she needs me to verify her "credentials" ...plus you can just check Wikipedia!!. Film looks fab,hope it does well.
