  4. I've noticed that you lot are using this thread as an excuse to boast about your fancy cars Just don't spoil the image too much though with a Keep the Faith sticker on the back window
  5. Aw the Velvets! Did you see the clip on Youtube? I was gutted that they didn't put their hands up on the "Wooh" bit
  6. It's not bad, got the 7 when it first came out and loved it. Haven't played it for a while though so may dig it out for a play later on
  7. Doesn't a girl called Gaye have something like that? You know, the lady with the mad label volvo?
  8. Ah remembered, not pies-speciality sausages George Mcgregor And Kat from the Velvelettes works in a hardware store in Detroit

  11. if I like a record I'll dance to it whoever plays it. But I'm rarely surprised by certain djs who just trawl out the same records wherever they play. If I see their name on an event it will put me off going as I know I've got to put up with an hour of them. I don't get out often enough to lose an hour of my night listening to djs I don't enjoy. There are certain djs that I will travel to hear and not all of those are big names. People like GarethX, Ady Lupton,Lisa H, Mark Baildon, the Pinch Bros, John and Ali, Brett and loads others who aren't big names but always do the business
  12. Some of the djs used to play CDs but I'm not sure whether that's still the case. (I haven't been there for a while as they sell cheap wine and I drink too much because it's only a short stagger home so I've self barred myself ).... But it's beside the point as customers who go there aren't bothered either way I'm sure..it's not that kind of venue.
  13. Jayne's right. The Guild hall in Stockport don't advertise their nights on the web for an example. They advertise in the local press and put flyers in various outlets but Ian certainly doesn't come on here to promote it. And they definitely don't play OVO
  14. Hi Mark, Les Hare's shop King Bee in Chorlton is brilliant for LPs,especially crossover and 70s stuff. And he is really reasonable as well. I've got loads of things from him in the past. I dunno how far he is from you but if you came over to Manchester you could tie it in with a visit to Beatin Rhythm at the same time I suppose? Or his website is https://kingbeerecords.co.uk/ (by the way he has far more stock than what's on the website, absolutely hundreds of Northern and other soul 45s too). Cheers Reggie
  15. Hi Mark, Here's a thread from a year or so ago that has lots of LP recommendations on! Cheers Reggie /Lps-Don...reg#entry538135
  16. Gil Scott Heron - Pieces of a man...Grade A Wonderful
  17. Okay here's a question. I sometimes go to the Broughton airbus club where Sam has a residency with Brian Eliis in North Wales. They play genuine across the board (Sam is the resident so you can take what you want from that) and the punters are all mainly local. Sam plays records there that I hear him play at several other venues including allniters that might be considered to play more underplayed/rare stuff. The punters at Broughton dance to new stuff that Sam and co play as they hear it every month and get to like it. I've seen my father in law dance to anything from the Ultimates to Neo to the OJays in ths space of an hour. So what I'm saying is that I don't think everybody is as blinkered as some people think Oldies lovers may not like a night of very rare underplayed stuff but play the odd classic and some of them will stay and get to like the other stuff. Some older people can be very nostalgic about music, they just need a bit of a nudge
  18. I've lost it...what's this thread about? Sandwiches/Original Vinyl/Clashes??? Btw I have helped promote soul nights in the past and anybody who played anything over than OV at our nights would not have been asked back
  19. I'm not a fan of Amy Winehouse or Duffy, that's well documented on this site. The Duffy single was quite catchy but anything that AW does sends me slightly cold as I think her singing style is very false and no better than the likes of Joss Stone. But Estelle is fab-a proper UK young soul artist to be proud of I think
  20. I love Hattie Littles, the earlier stuff especially . Btw Ian you didn't answer me about Estelle? her album is great and not a bit like the US type of R&B...more retro soul. This is a good one Hope you like it! ">
