  7. Didn't one of Atomic Kitten do it? Its on one of my little girl's CDs I think. Obviously awful Oops sorry, when i read insult I thought you meant another version? Why would playing the original be an insult?
  8. Maxine Brown - Let me give you my loving Sounds as exquisite today as the first time I heard it 20 odd years ago.
  9. Aw they're so enthusiastic at that age..they hit 7 or 8 and it's all High School Musical and Rihanna My little girl used to be so kee on soul music, I took her to an alldayer for a couple of hours at the Tower Ballroom when she was about 6 or 7 and she didn't stop dancing. She wouldn't be seen dead there now at (nearly) 11

    Help

Bury is one of the venues I went to quite a lot in my first round of soul wilderness years before I started going to all niters again in the early noughties When I think of records I always seemed to hear there (at least in the earlier years) I think of some of the following: Brown Sugar - Game is Over Ace Spectrum - Don't send Bettye Swann -Kiss your love goodbye (I always used to request this off Neil).. Ike and Tina -Dust my Broom Otis Redding - Loving by the Pound Mark Bicknell playlist stuff like Eula Cooper, George Blackwell etc Marvin Gaye - When I feel the Need There's probably loads more I'll think of as soon as I click post but there's a few off the top of my head
  13. I think its actually called Slice Bar innit Beeks?
  14. Yep, Jayne confused me!
  15. Is that Dave Jackson's night? I'm confused now as I was sure there was also a tiger lounge in the printworks?
  16. Ah the Printworks! I know the place now I may bob down as I work evenings in Didsbury - you up for it Jayne?
  17. Is the Tiger Lounge the place near the Town Hall and the City Inn and Vine? So many "lounges" in Manchester I get confused. If it's the one I'm thinking of Rich and I have been there a couple of times on a Saturday night, they play soundtrack, oddball pop,psych...well anything really. Is it every Thursday or just a one off?
  18. Maybe they've done all the close up dancing scenes already and just need the other extras for crowd scenes? Richard's cousin went to Stoke, she's a trained dancer and I would have thought they would have tried a bit harder with her as ,although she didn't really know how to dance in the proper "Northern" style, she quite clearly could have picked it up as she is trained in ballet and jazz dance. When they called her to ask her to go they asked her about her dancing experience but she was largely ignored when she got there. And she's a skinny 17 year old who would have looked the part
  19. What next, Paul O'grady playing name that northern stomper on the organ... with Dale Winton dancing along with his friend Barbara Windsor Yes Northern Soul is WELL cool
  20. I was gutted when some idiot broke my Isley Brothers LP and didn't even give a rat's ass that it even mattered Luckily my lovely husband replaced it for me a couple of birthdays ago
  21. There's far too many, and most of them don't really offer anything different that I can tell. (Plus I don't know where some people get the money either, some folk on here seem to be at a every weekender going!) Although other then Cleggy and Prestatyn I've not tried any of the others for a while (went to Cala Gran years ago...never again ) so I may be wrong . I do fancy Soul Essence though and some of the continental ones-Rimini and Valencia stand out but maybe that's because of the weather I am going to my final weekender of the year next weekend, back to Prestatyn as I have got a free ticket plus the modern/crossover lineup sounds fantastic (and I get to see the Spinners )
  22. He told me he swapped it for the VelVets

  24. Off Bergman
