  1. hey Steve I thought this one was your favourite? "I just called,,,to say....I luurrrvve yoooooooo"
  2. I don't like all soul music...I don't like most of the really modern stuff (with some exceptions) and I'm not awfully keen on the very early R&Bthat borders on rock and Roll. But I like most stuff in between...I think that if a venue is advertised as across the board you should expect some "modern" but how that modern is depends on who the punters are and whether there is a separate modern room. For example, I wouldn't expect to go to Prestwich and hear Y2K stuff in the main room, but on the other hand I wouldn't want to hear R&b in the main room at Middleton. At the end of the day, there's loads of venues, if it's only a couple of tracks in a night that don't suit your personal taste, it's not bad going really. I can count on one hand the number of venues that would suit my taste 100% , but I'd never go anywhere if I just went to them....
  3. Cleethorpes for me
  4. Carl Hall - What about you
  5. Was it you Pete, complete with Star Jumper and polyveldts.. (actually thinking about it I bet you didn't have polyveldts.... ).. I reckon that they should do a free screening for Soul Source Members..in Manchester ....(obviously...very central )...and we can tell them whether they've got it right or not...
  6. This is one of those records that as soon as you read the title, you can't stop singing it to yourself....or is that just me I also thought this was by Edwin Starr for years...probably just me as well
  7. Yeah me too...didn't realise until about halfway in that I'd already seen it Claudette Robinson's looking good for her age-she must be 60!
  8. I watched it again on the bbcI player. Something like the British Motown Invasion 1965 I think... edited ...here's a link https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00hq...otown_Invasion/
  9. Les from KingBee will probably have one or both...but it's probably a bit far for you to physically go and have a look as he is in Manchester. He has a website though.. https://www.kingbeerecords.co.uk/ May be worth mailing him to ask...he has new stock in all the time. I also have both...fantastic soul music proving you don't have to pay a fortune for quality.....
  10. I'm trying to think who spells as badly as that on here..... Nope...can't narrow it down.... Seriously though, I gave up on ebay as I had so many problems similar to that with buyers, not exclusively British though mind...
  11. Veerryy dificult... If I had to choose.... Male -Sam Cooke female - Maxine Brown I know you said one....can I have one of each though????
  12. On the garage theme (did somebody mention Human Beinz..)....what about Padded Cell-Mr Misery?
  13. Any more news on this Ian?
  14. That would be great....and I just got my caravan booked a stagger away from the pool... Does anybody know who the acts are yet for Cleethorpes btw?
  15. What I'd like to know is why nobody has managed to bring them over before but Tracey and Andy could persuade them? It's a genuine question? Was it because they simply cost too much, but if that was the case, how come this mystery promoter is possibly bringing them over sometime in the future? I did reserve a ticket so I am allowed to ask before anybody has a go by the way...........................lol
  16. Wow I would be up for this! June11-that's the same week as Cleggy...Ady?????? Requests....So Fine, ordinary guy, Gypsy Woman....ah loads of em
  17. Yep, Blackstreet/Teddy Riley....I got there , almost 2 years later! it's not a bad version to be fair if you like that kind of thing. Obviously,Tammi's is the best-I do prefer it to the BH version. Although on the same CD there is a Brenda Holloway track - My world is crumbling and that is better.....
  18. Ha ha, I was just playing....Cds are pants, hate the things...they f**k up/scratch easier than records! And they look rubbish too You obviously haven't heard the Gladys Knight one though.... Which is a damn shame as the track is great but the sound quality on Mr K's copy (not naming names of course) is very very poor! I have a white label of Stormy that admittedly sounds great
  19. Play it on the original format - ie the CD I bet it would sound better than off a boot. I know that I've heard that Gladys Knight record that's on the same Motown compilation played out on a carver/boot whatever (if you ever get your hands on love) and it sounds absolutely dreadful.
  20. Just found this topic as another thread reminded me. I think I remember Paul getting back to me now and confirming it was Blackstreet....if anybody is interested , lol
  21. Maybe I'll pm Andy Dyson and ask him if I can dj at the next lifeline -I can put a set together to rival anybody...if I can include cds, mp3s etc I went to a Christmas do a fews months ago and a faceless man sat there in front of a laptop playing random tracks....it gave a new meaning to the "office" party. I've heard that there are some NS events that do the same-is this a myth? I don't think you get it if you think it's okay to play non original format at a rare/northern soul event, I really don't...sorry
  22. Definitely more friendly now than it used to be. I used to go to some rum places in the 80s and a night didn't go by that often without some kind of incident usually involving being threatened by some agressive person ( usually a woman). You don't see anything like that now that much to be fair. probably because we're all a lot older and more mature....
  23. I think it's a great ad and the track is fabulous. It's one of those records that I can never tire of-even though I probably heard it first almost 25 years ago. I love the Bellamy bros one with the big slide too
