I'm with you Mark...nobody will really give a rats...we think that our music is so precious but it's not very liked democratically...every now and then a few nice youngsters will catch on but nothing to write home about. My daughter has been brougt up with soul music and I still can't convince her that the Candi staton original of "you got the love" is superior to Florence and the Machine's caterwailing...we haven't got a chance
  3. and not forgetting the casualeers
  4. Oi what's Reg Molehusband ever done to you?
  5. Okay you are correct...Out on the floor is a great old record, imagine if you heard it for the first time today:whistling:
  6. what's that Whitesnake record? Or the other one by KC and the sunshine. band..? I think they are called "here we go again" and "give it up" I think I used the word tedious before..and I have to say that I was getting more moist (as Mr Cato would say) by the talk of Coronation Street oldies! So I will ask again, seeing this is the forum that I look after these days...has this subject been done to death before? Have several of the posters on this thread posted almost the same answer previously..? Have you really not got anything else to talk about without worrying about what everybody else is doing? Surely your own opinion is paramount without worrying about everybody else? I will leave you to think about that:whistling:
  7. Soul Source has got a lot to answer for! I met flippin Joe orton on here for the first time...! remember him Steve?
  8. I want one! Northern Soul in the nightclub style...! I seem to remember a few drunken sort of karaoke sessions at the Orwell. Alison did a very special version of Minnie Ripperton
  9. Never as I'm far too young you old gits
  10. and that old pikester is what most of us really wanted to say from the start:rolleyes: But we were either too shy or too unimaginative to say the words:wicked:
  11. Correct There have just been a few posts with no link to Mr Sadot's original topic whatsoever that's all.
  12. Keep on topic folks....there is a new thread re clothes etc here:
  13. If nothing else it's bl**dy cheating innit ! It's taken me long enough to learn to be this bad with practise!!
  14. Ah James did you go to Trickster's classes...go on admit it, you did didn't you!!

    Oh yes!
  16. The Carousel on Plymouth Grove Mcr circa 1986..first record I heard that I knew (spent all night freezing and not knowing one record until this point) was Landslide. Then I made a faux pas of asking Richard Searling for Tobi Legend at 3am..."It's a bit early love" was kind of what he said!

It's awful isn't it Rach, I have had much trouble going anywhere near the news over the last few days as a mother of small children. It really is as bad as it gets! Maybe a few nights will have a whipround on the night this weekend and we will all maybe dig a a little and send a bit of what we can afford. Sounds like the sooner the better according to yesterdays' Le Monde (it's the only paper I buy cos of my course...pretentious moi??)
  18. Covered up as Lee Otis Valentine not Williams.
  19. Virtually, I've had access to the internet almost since it started so i've been lurking about Soul forums for a good few years now. Actually, I've been attending soul dos on and off since I was old enough to get past the door staff. And yes I do think that the internet has influenced how the "actual" soul scene has developed -in many ways. For years and year I went to places and just knew a few folk here and there and that was fine. Since KTF, NiteOWL (what was the other one called that Martin did?) I've probably met about 100 more people who I probably never would have talked to otherwise as I am a little bit shy in real life. Also "virtually" there are people on here who I chat to like one of the family and I've never met em! It has to be a good thing, the fibbing is a problem but that has always gone on. I can remember lads in the 80s bragging about their record collection when we knew all they had at home was a couple of SOS labels and the Big Wheels of Motown LP. It's just easier now with the availibilty of information out there. But real life is the same-everybody is an expert on everything these days!
  20. Aw, how sad...one of my favourite lps, wounded woman. RIP xx
  21. Elton at Cleethorpes, ha ha I think he's been on the wagon too long to risk that :-) That kind of reminds me (no offense Ady..) of that Vicar of Dibley episode

  23. I think the amount that they would certainly ask questions is 10K. They may ask for lower amounts depending on the bank. So long as you have an explantion though there shouldn't be a problem.
