  8. my first exposure to soul was paynes in the summer of 1970, I remember them playing Tammi Lynn, Frankie Valli and all the Invictus / Hot Wax stuff, couldn't understand what it was all about at first but here I am 40 years later still lovin' it.

  12. I'm glad to hear that there are some young soul fans around, but I can't see why they would want to mix with a bunch of fifty somethings. If there are enough of them surely it would make more sense for them to organize their own events, play their own mix of tunes and do things their own way.
  13. DO you think they'll still be listening to it in ten years time?
  14. I agree , why do you want to encourage youngsters onto the scene? They've got their music, we've got ours.I've got 3 sons aged 14, 21 and 24 and I wouldn't expect them to be interested in rare/northern soul, in fact I'd consider them to be sad gits if they did.
  15. I also found a mint Oh Linda by Leroy Taylor for 30p in the same shop as those two.
  16. paid about 50p each for the Martha Reeves and Lou Rawls, couldn't give them away when I sold my records years ago, how times change.
  17. just looking at an old copy of northern noise (no. 3) where the casino was top current all nighter, top all time all nighter and top overall venue, but then it would be woudn't it, as they published it.
  18. I went to that one, I think Pat Brady may have djd that nite can't remember anyone else. I do remember it was a really good nite though, it was a nice tidy place unlike the Casino. I may be wrong but wasn't it on from 9 till 9.
  19. I put 2 records on the table next to me in M's looked over the balcony, looked back seconds later and they were gone. there were some light fingered twats there thats for sure.
  20. Hilgs from North Wales, now there was a cool guy, I first knew him when I was a baby skinhead in Paynes Cafe Royal in Llandudno.
  21. What about Move on up - Curtis Mayfield, got played as an oldie years after getting in the charts
