No you weren't the only one, there was one living in my house, not me, my mother was not well pleased when she read it in the paper. I got searched a couple of times in there though and even on Crewe station on Sunday morning.
I remember getting lists from somebody who called themselves 'Soul Control' in 1971, they used to auction records but I don't think anything went for more than about £2.
He was deffinately on at Leeds, my biggest memory of the place was the fkn awful sound system. I went to see him on Colwyn Bay Pier in '74/'74 but the bouncers threw me out before he came on.
I remember the first DG column I read, when he ended with the 'do what's right, not what's white'. Always the first page I turned to when I got my Blues and Soul.
One of the first tunes I can remember as a 14 year old in 1970 was Que Sera Sera by the High Keys, I still like it now although I haven't heard it played anywhere since then. I always assumed it was an old Wheel tune, maybe somebody could put me right on this.
Plenty of girls dressed like that at nighters in the mid 70's and it didn't look too bad on a young fit female, don't remember many girls with tatoos though.
Funny you should say that because the one that Pete hates, Baby Reconsider was one of my favourite records for many years. Bought it on a Soul Sounds boot in '71 I think, always thought I'd get an original one day to replace it but never did.
It got played at our local soul club (Paynes in Llandudno) as a new release, don't know about anywhere else, great tune btw. Another I remember as a 14 year old was Kool and the Gang by Kool and the Gang.
