Think he might start up his own soul night..................it's definately needed and I'm sure theres space for it.

Nobody in the last few posts mentioned .........THE PUNTERS DANCING......................or is that an old fashioned concept lost in this egotistical deejaying battle.People can play records but how many can create an atmosphere. The amount of times i've seen dj masturbation with their heads only going from the deck to the record box to the deck to their mates and back to the record box.Hey this one will impress the chinstrokers at the bar while poor dancing punter just gets pissed off.

No I think thats called a Dictatorship!!. How about The National Union Of Rare Soul and the sub division The National Union Of Northern Soul. Will there be votes at AGM's in relation to what will be played at venues. This is the commitee.........Funk is scab music.Maybe there should be a Northern Soul Masons section and we could have dos on at Masonic Halls

Am I listening to the B side....All My Life?. Run of the mill seventies soul ender.I think they call this Giffer soul these days (mid tempo/down tempo records bought by old men)

My cat is getting a bit sick of hearing my sounds and is starting his own progressive soul night up with the rest of his feline friends. He complained that theres nowhere that plays the music he likes so he bought some tunes off e bay and he's booked the back room of the local pub.At least he will get to dj.

Thank god I don't promote for a living!!!.Imagine promoting to feed your wife and kids at the moment.Who does it for a living...Kev and Adey? any more?.It seems the cult of "superstar dj" has made an impression on the rare soul and northern scenes and everybody who has access to e bay and a bit of spare cash can have a go without leaving their town.If you cant afford the records so what....get down to HMV and you can get them all on CD.

Don't agree.....used to go to Wendy Mays Locomotion in Kentish Town many years ago...smattering of northern soul, stax Atlantic etc.In no way part of "the scene".There's loads of clubs out there that are not part of the "scene" that play northern and rare soul/funk.This X Ray Soul Club in no way will threaten Solid Hit's night.Look at the pictures. I do not recognise anyone on that site who is part of the "scene". The "scene in London is Solid Hit/Va Va Voom and Boogaloo along with 100 Club.Rare Soul and R&B.It seems they have created their own scene!!!!Don't know about other parts of the country. Terry Jones and the Modern Soul Boys are part of a different "scene" and never shall any of these scenes meet unless its at the Modern Rooms up north. These X Ray boys probably wouldn't want to be part of "the scene".

Wasn't it born when Dave Godin said it was born and didn't it die when Ian Levine said it was dead.See the article I put up from Blues and soul.It is a minority who bicker about music on websites. It can't be very appealing for young kids at 23/24 to start collecting this music and wanting to deejay and then entering the scene to find it's full of middle aged fat blokes arguing about that's an oldie/that's a newie, thats crossover, that's reggae soul.Looking at that X Ray Soul site they look as though they have really got their act together, great website, loads of young faces, women and they look as though they are enjoying themselves with no baggage. It must have been like that at the beginning of the scene.Loads of new sounds, great atmosphere......why would they want to be part of the established soul scene.Don't know if they have a regular audience/crowd or whether they are ovo or not but i bet they haven't got 30 years of baggage and they look as though they are having.................fun .

Orig copy wanted.Vg condition okay (I'm going to play it).PM Me with a sensible price.
-
It's a totally different audience. See their website.Loads of young student types.Think it has been running for a while but I think they have just discovered this site.More oldies orientated if you ask me.Maybe this is where the future young blood is.Don't even know if they are ovo or not.If they were serving up the rare soul that Solid Hit does then I think you would have a problem. It is getting to saturation point though and something will give.

Even my mate is doing a soul night in Essex same night as Boogaloo Soul (ouch...said to my mate I would attend)......doesn't even do vinyl it's all on CD.I said why didn't you get some deejays with vinyl...reply it's only a local do they don't care if it's vinyl or not. This seems to be the attitude. If god is a deejay everybody wants to be god.

Frank Elson is big on the Northern Nostradamus scene. These are snippets from the oh holy scriptures of Northern Soulus and pray to keep the faith and a pilgrimage to the Blackpool Mecca.......

Thought I would have a rummage through a few of them (before my time I may add) and found that the same arguments ie seventies/modern/oldies were being discussed then albeit in paper form. It's just transferred to the net. They seem like a week by week history of the northern scene as it was.Loads of reports on venues etc and even some pics.As Mr Deejay "Frank" has pointed out the adverts for clubs that plugged their sounds are fascinating.I really started buying Echoes and then found I was buying Echoes for one page in the end!!.Discussion on oldies and Pat Brady playing new sounds Chandlers in 1980/81 !!!! Oldies and newies were mixed and theres a good discussion on how new sounds should be introduced. What record is Chris Holmes pointing at??. Im sure Alan Rhodes ended up as a deejay on Radio Tees.I have an interview with him,Chris King and Eddie Holman somewhere.

Obscure r&b all night...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz will push more punters away than it will attract and turn the 100 into a Mod night. And definately no seventies.

Yes it was a joke.....lots of young people at the X Ray and looks busy. They have another night as well called The Soulful Shack so they must be doing okay. I wonder if they do ovo?
