  1. Reminds me of a Viz character Norbert Colon......do you sell records ie small plastic/vinyl objects that are placed on machines what are commonly known as record decks and do you have any particular items that were popular in the northern regions of seventies working class Britain? .....yes,what do you want?......I do not want to purchase any of the said items...i was merely enquiring whether these were the wares you were offering..........
  2. makes you blind by the glitter band was played back to back with purple haze johnny jones
  3. If you havent got the money dont buy it or offer to buy it......it's not rocket science.Id like to own some rare pieces of art...I wouldnt go to Sothebys, spend all day looking at the catalogues and start bidding on the Monet and then run out the door when it came to paying up...........this is the cyber equivalent (without the bidding).By the way e bay sellers beware of fake you have been paid paypal e mails....I got stung for £40 recently on a reggae lp and the buyer being in London I went to visit him with a few friends. It was a Polish squat in Shoreditch. Check his feedback https://myworld.ebay.co.uk/alhidek/
  4. White plains-My Baby Loves Lovin deram .....mono version Jigsaw-Sky High
  5. Didn't Neil Rushton do this in the seventies in a way at the Ritz..........Blackpool Mecca versus Wigan. The Ritz must have been neutral territory.Wasnt it Sam playing stompers and Levine come on with Jaws and the same dancers stayed on the floor!!..Maybe Jaws should be played again as theres plenty sharks out there.I had all this rubbish with the Rocket but that was more to do with a battle of music styles and the supposed London scene not wanting oldies and to keep it on a more r&b mod tip.As Jerry Butler said Only The Strong Survive. If you want to do battle and meet people head on then you can't expect Queensberry Rules.....38 years in the promoting game..mmmm
  6. Ive got the blue US Hi EP....Did it come with a picture cover?
  7. Thought it would be a good idea .....then the thought of someone playing The Magnetics or George Lemons all the way up would raise the risk asst level to high/danger .Did a few coaches to the Ritz bank holiday niters from London which were a laugh and the Pompey boys always did a coach to the Rocket. So legend has it there used to be a coach to Wigan from Stockton on Teees that went through Middlesbrough....Jack Wardle????. I suppose most towns in the seventies had coaches to Wigan as BR was so unreliable then.
  8. I got a Mr Dynamite in the eighties for £8 thank god. I remember deejays playing the A and having another copy ready on the other deck for the instrumental....so thats £1,066.00 or £16
  9. Dahn here theres boogaloo (see above) r&b, popcorn, boogaloo, latin and northern soul.Rob Bailey has his doos which are more Mod orientated.Solid Hit Soul is in a pub basement and is rarer sixties soul.6TS at the 100 Club which is unique in the mix.Va Va Voom which is rare 7ts and sixties (lots of mid tempo stuff), Walls Of Heartache...Tamla and eighties mod biggies with some northern,Crystal Palace Soul (seventies funkier stuff),, Towerful Of Soul (never been don't know the music policy)........what there isnt is a 100 % northern soul club.I'm keeping away from London as theres tooo much going on.By the way I appreciate the music from all the venues and Im a regular at most of the venues (esp Solid Hit which is the best night in London IMHO)...
  10. Theres a version of this by Sons And Lovers on the yellow UK Beacon......always wondered if it was a cover version. Its a stormer as well.
  11. I find it strange that the north wouldnt let go of the sixties influences full stop.As the south got into more funky sounds and progressed why did the northerners stick to the motown template and not move along with the funk. They even rode scooters all the way through the seventies and formed scooter clubs. They did move with the fashions though and abandoned the suits/mod gear lthough it was a very street look.It wasn't even a revival...how can it be if you never stopped. It was the same with the music...they wanted new or unknown sixties tamla based uptempo music.I believe RIC Tic and Okeh were the first US labels out of Motown Stax etc to be discovered and they were worshipped with people having tattoos done,/badges etc.Motown must have been old hat in 71/72.Anybody know when the Ric Tics were imported in bulk and why there are so many about.
  12. Used to work with a bloke that was a regular at the Gliderdome and he always remembers the night I think it was 67 when the Small Faces appeared......they got booed off because the crowd didn't want to hear pop rubbish. Geno Washington was the next act on. They all invaded the stage and were carrying him around on their shoulders. He said most London pop or hippy groups got short thrift. He was a hard Mod/peenut who wore shermans, brogues and blazers. He said after a hard week at work the last thing they could connect with were peace and love merchants or long haired pop groups. They wanted to dance all weekend and the best music was soul.I'm sure I have read an interview with Roger Eagle who said he played a mixture of soul music and r&b at the Twisted Wheel and he left because the pill poppers were demanding the uptempo stuff and he felt it was limiting him. Im sure that when the Tamla tour came over they were playing to empty theatres so Tamla in the early days must have been cult music..

  15. When I brought Sandi Sheldon over to play at The Rocket she gave me a private picture of her and Van Mccoy..........will have to dig it out and post it up.I believe Sandi was Kendra Spotswood and also Jack and Jill.Matty Taylor Vans sister also came over. She was after UK groups who covered Van compositions.Someone did a UK cover version of Giving Up
  16. Been here before but..........Tom Petchs' My Generation scoot is on the seafront scene...a GP with a trick lattice paint job with My Generation down the panels...GPs brought out in 69. My Generation came out in 65.....nobody had trick paint jobs in 64. The film was set in 64. On the hilltop scene you can see a vespa rally and a cutdown with a lad with a grey greatcoat. Not 64 wear.Bearded mod on a seafront scene with flares as well. Jimmy is dancing to My Generation in a party scene.......and in the same party scene there's an lp that didn't come out until a few years later.........anybody spot The Jam on a parka?
  17. Ive got this on UK Instant...Eddie Thornton was Georgie Fames trumpet player.PM me your offer and I will consider letting it go.Its in ex cond.Dont think it had a US release

  19. Sold my french copy with a stupid cartoon sleeve to rob bailey years ago for £60.Think its a bit more now but why the fuss..........buy some northern soul instead.A pedestrian bluesy organ track played at the arse end of Dingwalls every now and again.
  20. To put the record straight I never recorded anyones set or had any knowledge of this whilst i was involved in its running.. Must have happened after myself and Paul pulled out..............theres also a difference recording someones spot from a mixing desk and recording it on your mobile.
  21. Was at Camber Sands Scoooter Rally last weekend.Great northern soul room but I have to report no spontaneous outbursts of clapping.Maybe a bit of Mel Wynn could have got them going.
  22. Ive got the film on Video somewhere and actually transferred the Mary Love clip to a video I was selling at the Rocket allnighters in 2002.Remember it was a slow ballad. She was supposed to be playing in a club and there was a hot funk band who followed her on .Most of these blaxploitation films are still available.Must dig out the Black Gestapo and Scream Blacula Scream.Stu Gardner in Point Blank is mostly screaming.Anybody seen the Jerry Lee Lewis Special DVD with Jackie Wilson....had to buy it after being disappointed he wasnt in a Lovely Way To Die.Right im off to check out The Candy Tangerine man,Dr Goldfoot,Music Machine,Love Machine,Savage,Dynamite chicken, human tornado, report to the commissioner and salt and pepper,
  23. Thanks............I'm presuming there's no 45 then
  24. Kiki Dee Love Is A Warm Kind Of Sorrow..........PM me your price.
