  2. Eddie Grant owner and producer on a lot of early UK reggae and soul labels.Theres two great UK Funkers in Zappata Schmidts Hey Man Why on Torpedo and and also someone in the crowd on Uk President. They did an Lp with a picture of a mincing machine on the front which is nothing to write home about.Equals also did Funky Like A Train later on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8ORN1Ren-Y&feature=relatedand also this one which is more moddy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoEJUg6CcBc.
  3. Giffer soul is mainly mid tempo to slow tempo ballads played by middle aged and older soulies usually male who cannot keep up with the fast stuff. There is also Giffer Punk as well.

  7. If youre interested in the seedier side of the industry and particularly bootlegging you could do worse than buy Clinton Heylins book . The secret history of the other recording industry. The Sound of Philadephia isnt bad by Tony Cummings but long deleted.Manship has one for £30.Another one i have is a Black Music annual published by Hamlyn...some great photos but again long deleted.
  8. This record is the dogs boxxox.Think this is about the third thread that has been started on it.A copy went for $364 last year but I bet a lot of people didnt bid because they never thought that it would not be in reach.A great production and nice use of strings and brass and definately one for the dancers not the giffers.
  9. I cleared up at Beanos when they had their half price shutting down sale.Must have had 4 copies of Put It On-The Wailers plus Garnet Mimms demos and loads of other UK stuff. Not much US.The place was turned into a mini market which failed and I think it has shut down now.Theres another record shop round the corner called Memory Lane though.Best ever boot fair find was non soul related...a british demo of The Game-Its Shocking What They Call Me.Best soul find a demo of Major Lance-Aint No Soul Always managed to find the odd bits but never much soul....reggae lps.
  10. The rare Cliff ones are Throw Down A Line (his acid and LSD phase) and the Shadows funk LP with the biker on the front .The singles boogitoo and scotch on thge socks dont turn up at boot fairs too often.....
  11. Bumped into Danny Baker a few times in a record shop in Lewisham. He lives in Blackheath. He was looking for ska and reggae. He told me his dad used to work at the docks and was always bringing records home......he used to use some of them as frisbees.Robert Elms BBC London is a big soul and jazz fan but more on the funk side.
  12. Mine has a deep red moulded label well printed and no blurring ...a weird stamp in the she side that looks like 3 sets of commas then 100-008 T.M.P....Other side has 100-09 and the same set of commas.I believe the boot is a lighter red

  18. She was a regular at Cleethorpes and is a mate of my mates wife. The bloke from the office is a soul fan.Steve Stange and Dave Ball leading lights from the New Romantic era were Mecca regulars.Re Ian Kilminster (Lemmy). His drummer cant remember his name was a skinhead from the original era .....was it Filthy Animal Taylor?? See picture below...... . Steve Davis is also a massive fan of prog rockers Magma from Germany so its not only soul that rocks his boat.Ive a tape with Steve Davis on with him raving about the Budweiser releases/Milton Parker/Rena Scott etc I used to see the bloke who presents late night baseball at soul weekenders (southport ) in the 90's...Im sure he deejayed as well.Richard Searling who was involved in Warsaw (pre Joy Division and got them to do Keep On Keeping On) is known to like a soul record or 2.What about Chris King....wasnt he in KWS who had a hit with please dont go and ploughed the motown vaults. When I was doing the Rocket old tango man Dale Winton turned up and even offered to deejay!!.We also had Nick (Telstar and Lock Stock) Moran in as well. He's into soul and funk..Shaun Ryders brother is into northern as is Mani from Primal Scream. Well into his scooters as well as was Ian Brown who I believe was in the Crusaders scooter club . KWS on TOTP....can anyone confirm Chris King on keyboards
  19. Who sang the Ant And The Grasshopper and What Do We Do with the Ugly ones from This England.Ive heard Paul is teaching 13 year old cockney mods to dance northern soul for the (soulsource friendly ) northern soul film. What was the play for today type thing on TV with a Grapevine soundtrack and the neurotic woman from Shameless and the pillhead plumber from Coronation Street.
  20. You would be hard pressed to find a totally northern soul do on the island.Hipshaker was more r&b this year than ever. The Crown has even started playing more r &b even after about 30 punters walked off the floor. Most of the bars are mod cabaret.Never went upstairs at the balcony bar so cant comment.Great weekend though but I don't expect much from the music....whatever happened to the allnighter club of Great Britain and big northern soul allnighters at rallies. Scooters and soul have always gone together. central scooters.bmp central scooters.bmp
