  1. Heres Warsaw track with the Keep On Keeping on Backing.Wonder if Ian Curtis had the 45 It was a long way from the Ric Tic revue and Hinkley for Chris King
  2. She was a regular at Cleethorpes and is a mate of my mates wife. The bloke from the office is a soul fan.Steve Stange and Dave Ball leading lights from the New Romantic era were Mecca regulars.Re Ian Kilminster (Lemmy). His drummer cant remember his name was a skinhead from the original era .....was it Filthy Animal Taylor?? See picture below...... . Steve Davis is also a massive fan of prog rockers Magma from Germany so its not only soul that rocks his boat.Ive a tape with Steve Davis on with him raving about the Budweiser releases/Milton Parker/Rena Scott etc I used to see the bloke who presents late night baseball at soul weekenders (southport ) in the 90's...Im sure he deejayed as well.Richard Searling who was involved in Warsaw (pre Joy Division and got them to do Keep On Keeping On) is known to like a soul record or 2.What about Chris King....wasnt he in KWS who had a hit with please dont go and ploughed the motown vaults. When I was doing the Rocket old tango man Dale Winton turned up and even offered to deejay!!.We also had Nick (Telstar and Lock Stock) Moran in as well. He's into soul and funk..Shaun Ryders brother is into northern as is Mani from Primal Scream. Well into his scooters as well as was Ian Brown who I believe was in the Crusaders scooter club . KWS on TOTP....can anyone confirm Chris King on keyboards
  3. Who sang the Ant And The Grasshopper and What Do We Do with the Ugly ones from This England.Ive heard Paul is teaching 13 year old cockney mods to dance northern soul for the (soulsource friendly ) northern soul film. What was the play for today type thing on TV with a Grapevine soundtrack and the neurotic woman from Shameless and the pillhead plumber from Coronation Street.
  4. You would be hard pressed to find a totally northern soul do on the island.Hipshaker was more r&b this year than ever. The Crown has even started playing more r &b even after about 30 punters walked off the floor. Most of the bars are mod cabaret.Never went upstairs at the balcony bar so cant comment.Great weekend though but I don't expect much from the music....whatever happened to the allnighter club of Great Britain and big northern soul allnighters at rallies. Scooters and soul have always gone together. central scooters.bmp central scooters.bmp

On the trot maybe there should be an ambulance on standby....somebody call me a doctor, somebody call me a nurse...
  6. I would agree.....these are floaters as is Ians choice 40 days and nights. If youre brought up on Stafford type stuff I suppose The Limitations would take the puff out of you.
  7. Laura Brannigan was played back to back with the Redcaps-Never Too Young (Imber Soul Club)
  8. And a lot of cheesy allnighter bags
  9. Paul Anka-Cant Help Lovin you..................and the Peter Wyngarde Lp.Its just bizarre have a listen

  11. You should advertise them as rare boots and stick them in an old plastic record box..................unopened since Wigan closed and watch the bids fly in.
  12. I have one.....the Action version is better. This is more baroque pop with cellos and an instrumental version on the flip...........think the Left Banke.A.I like it a pop record but not as a northern record
  13. It was the Marvin Holmes -You Better Keep Her 45
  14. Just dug the Soul Of Change Out.......UK Windmill WMD121.......without Mrs Soul on it.Its Got To Be You,Take Care Of Homework,First In Line,Heart On A String,Wind Of Change,Fredom Train,People Got To Be Free,Make Me Yours,Keep On Trying,Peace (sic) Of My Heart,Oh!Darling, You Dont Stand A Chance. So original issue Up Front Wind Of Change....second pressing on Windmill and Soul Of Change.Windmill was a definate budget reissue label from the late sixties/early seventies as I have seen loads of stuff at car boots on Windmill.A favourite of mine is a Chico Lopez Lp.....the track trouble spot.So which is the £200 record the Windmill second pressing or the Upfront original.....Im sure from memory there is a slightly different track listing.I must dig my Joe E Young and The Tonics LP on Toast out along with the Herbie And The Royalists LP.I must be listening to stuff with different ears!!
  15. Ive got both Upfront and Windmill Lp's. The Windmill is quite common at UK record fairs and was a Woolworths type LP.Fair play to anyone that can get £200 for it. it.Looks like the Uk ska/reggae labels with soulish tracks are becoming in vogue.Probably because most were UK only.I have a few Upfront 45's on the black label as well.Is there a particular track on the LP people are after and can we havea collectable UK Soul on reggae labels thread....
  16. They managed to get one and a half of the original Wigan deejays....
  17. The Motown bar is still in Catford..........looks a bit worn at the moment but is still open. Its only 15 mins away....might pluck up courage to pop in.
  18. Were you there at this night???? https://www.punk77.co.uk/groups/demolitionwigancasino.htm
  19. Ive got one Pete but i dont want to sell it ........Carl and Maria Willingham started playing it and it went up to £150....get to one of the big uk record fairs and you will find them at a tenner along with This Train and Robin Hood Rides Again.
  20. I always thought there were always babies at allnighters.......i keep seeing parents wide eyed walking around carrying Johnson baby powder
  21. I thought it was the dancers at the Twisted Wheel copying the American soul artists that visited.Keb Darge reckons that karate moves influenced the dancing in the mid seventies. What was the dancing like at the Torch and when did swallow dives into splits etc arrive.Ive also heard that the dancing at the mecca was a lot different...probably due to the funkier sounds.Whatever happened to the mecca shuffle........usually done to Time by Edwin Starr.I know a couple of kids that are being taught by Mr Sadot on here for the other (credible?) northern soul film.
  22. Just had an alternative cut of In Love (with horns ) e mailed to me from the man himself......Tony Galla.Might play it on Saturday. Got a styrene and paper label of the Perigents....always thought it was a boot.
  23. Ian Dewhirst Ian Levine Richard Searling
  24. And the video features Sandy Sarjeant who did Cant Stop The Want on Polydor ...........she married Ian Mcglagan from The Faces
