  1. Big Mod record in the eighties well before its use in films..........was in the same parking bay as 7 Dwarfs,Let Me Stand Next To Fire,Mr Dynamite,Berts Apple Crumble,Bobby Bland-Honeychild,Perpetual Motion,Shadows Of Knight-Shake,Ray Barretto(Drummers and Mercy Baby),Maximillion-The Snake (a lot of Del Shannon records bought for the mispress lol),Derek Martin-If You Go,Bel Cantos,Buena Vistas-TNT,Jerry Lee Lewis-Shotgun Man,The Quik,Untamed-My Baby Is Gone/Gimme Some Shade,Darrow Fletcher (Pain),Billy Stewart-Secret Lover, Rumblers, Detours-Pieces Of You (Inst Hanging On) etc etc...all mixed up............take a bow Dom Bassett and Ian Jackson.
  2. Soul and scooters from back in the day.............Can you tell me whats on there panels......Nite Owl ? What do these lads have on their plaques? Okeh.Back when "real northern" (not popcorn r&b ) ruled the roost........and not like last night when ten of us pissed off back to the chalet at 2am because the music was too slow....and boring.Sorry the twist aint our bag.At 2am we want to be excited.........not "and the bugles played, oh the teardrops start", "Oh Im Coming Home, Oh Baby Im Come", You said you loved me but its just a lie.....she'll be gone.I would rather be trapped in a lift with DILY on permanently.Bring back Chris Burton. For all of his sins he did have an understanding of running niters having been running the Torch and employed some good northern deejays.Scooter rally northern as stopped in an 85 timewarp (Alfie Davidson,DILY,W.I.T.Water etc ) with some giffer oldies (Wade Flemons,Doug Banks,Sam Fletcher) and now this really old fashioned rockn roll /twist music.
  3. This is pretty fast and frantic.
  4. Great tune. Got him on an old video from top of the pops doing this.....must have been a minor hit
  5. Just got one from the USA......Pale blue Dontee 103-B scratched in the run out very neatly 45rpm then Dontee 101-A then "ALONE WITH NO LOVE" then 2/18/71 and a squiggle??.Other side TC with a V underneath the T and Dontee 103-A.Styrene with a moulded label (not the usual bubbling type) matt not shiny. Is the jury still out?
  6. I've always wondered why in the middle of Oxford Street that the venue never opened mid day as a cafe to cater for the hoardes of tourists. The place hasn't/doesn't recognise it's own importance and the fact that they could captalise on this. The club is known worldwide but when tourists visit they may not want to visit to see some ropey band in the evening. The Cavern merges both as a venue/cafe/tourist place. I can see some developers buy it and turn it into another rock cafe/sticky fingers type place......they will keep the history/heritage but it will probably be a restaurant.Look at the money involved.it's just not viable as a commercial club with those rents/overheads. You can't even afford to have half empty nights. Big names only and full houses. Even if it does get a reprieve a solid working business plan would have to be put in place with no time for sentiment....people through the door/bar takings.....and yes food/tat merchandise..Unless a rich rock star with money to throw away or some big names/politicians get behind it then it is inevitable.Very sad when you walk into the old Marquee and then a bit further along Tottenham Court Road to see what they have done to the Astoria...........Time Marches On.Right just about to e mail Robert Elms
  7. Simon Souupon or something like that.
  8. Boris should intervene.........the clubs steeped in history and not only from a soul perspective. Just think of the jazz artists, punk, mod, rock and skiffle bands that have played there.Surely it must be a listed building??.I'm not sure if some rich benefactor or philanthrophist will intervene...look at the Marquee
  9. Apparently this is a good site to see what things go for https://www.popsike.com/php/quicksearch.php?searchtext=masqueraders+how+big&thumbs=&currsel=&x=20&y=1
  10. Eddie Grant owner and producer on a lot of early UK reggae and soul labels.Theres two great UK Funkers in Zappata Schmidts Hey Man Why on Torpedo and and also someone in the crowd on Uk President. They did an Lp with a picture of a mincing machine on the front which is nothing to write home about.Equals also did Funky Like A Train later on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8ORN1Ren-Y&feature=relatedand also this one which is more moddy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoEJUg6CcBc.

  15. If youre interested in the seedier side of the industry and particularly bootlegging you could do worse than buy Clinton Heylins book . The secret history of the other recording industry. The Sound of Philadephia isnt bad by Tony Cummings but long deleted.Manship has one for £30.Another one i have is a Black Music annual published by Hamlyn...some great photos but again long deleted.
  16. This record is the dogs boxxox.Think this is about the third thread that has been started on it.A copy went for $364 last year but I bet a lot of people didnt bid because they never thought that it would not be in reach.A great production and nice use of strings and brass and definately one for the dancers not the giffers.
  17. I cleared up at Beanos when they had their half price shutting down sale.Must have had 4 copies of Put It On-The Wailers plus Garnet Mimms demos and loads of other UK stuff. Not much US.The place was turned into a mini market which failed and I think it has shut down now.Theres another record shop round the corner called Memory Lane though.Best ever boot fair find was non soul related...a british demo of The Game-Its Shocking What They Call Me.Best soul find a demo of Major Lance-Aint No Soul Always managed to find the odd bits but never much soul....reggae lps.
  18. The rare Cliff ones are Throw Down A Line (his acid and LSD phase) and the Shadows funk LP with the biker on the front .The singles boogitoo and scotch on thge socks dont turn up at boot fairs too often.....
  19. Bumped into Danny Baker a few times in a record shop in Lewisham. He lives in Blackheath. He was looking for ska and reggae. He told me his dad used to work at the docks and was always bringing records home......he used to use some of them as frisbees.Robert Elms BBC London is a big soul and jazz fan but more on the funk side.
  20. Mine has a deep red moulded label well printed and no blurring ...a weird stamp in the she side that looks like 3 sets of commas then 100-008 T.M.P....Other side has 100-09 and the same set of commas.I believe the boot is a lighter red
