  1. Common sense I think.First UK pressings on Action/Black Capitol/Orange CBS/Yellow Direction/B&C/MGM etc etc ....the unreleased stuff on Grapevine etc.If you haven't got the records and have to rely on Sevens reissues,Grapevine reissues,Destiny,Stardust etc then I think you should be employing someone who has made the time and effort to seek out and buy the originals. There's loads on here who would play for a nominal fee. It's a bit heartless going to a northern gig and seeing someone dj from a cd trip to the northern section in HMV and almost as bad using reissues and pressings
  2. Another one on US Playboy with a great production.Al Wilson And this one....I know Running Out Of Fools was played at The Mecca from LP...ut what about her other tracks
  3. Great Crossover record on US Romark Blue Issue Help Me Get That Feelin Back Again/Wear Your Natural Baby.I have had this for years but hardly play it.In Ex Condition vinyl and label.PM me.I accept cheque/Paypal. £270. PM me.
  4. "classic case of bootleg it first.Sell the bootleg before anyone else has found the original. Well the original was found some years later. Original has 4011-in the deadwax but more important a matt finish label with silver lettering.Counterfeited is a poor attempt, with a gloss finish label. The supposed original/counterfeit was selling for £15 at its height"....which im presuming was the summer of 76. The Pierre Hunt-I Have Got To Have Your Love must have been a big record back in the day as well as I'm sure I've a blue boot of that and I've seen gold copies. The Women in the background remind me of Generation Game or Mr &Mrs singers though!!
  5. I agree most of this list are underplayed oldies and have all been played at different times............Betty Lloyd cost me a few quid.I think/hope this thread is about records that had massive northern potential but never made it big....not about good/OK ballads/midtempo/album tracks that would have never made it in a million years..........Sunny And The Sunliners-If I Could See You Now (but you were looking at Lonely Lover)
  6. Got this recently and will be spinning it out.....must have been tipped for big things as it was booted.
  7. Got the crying All Night on President ......it's got a funny wah wah sound on it.Watson is still around gigging.Check his website out... https://www.watsonbrowne.co.uk/
  8. [/rs] Sorry mate far too slow .....what we call down here "Giffer Soul".Pleasant enough.Flip it back over for the dancer.Reminds me of all the people who play the wrong side of the Jack Montgomery record Do You Believe It.
  9. Is that on UK Mam label the black one......... one I see everywhere is 5 Flights Up-black cat which is basically a reworking of Loves Gone Bad...even got a UK release on Bell.Great sound tho.
  10. We must have the same tastes bought that 2 weeks ago on US playboy.....great record about $5.
  11. I was speaking to Russ recently about things he would try to break that never took off three of which were Trade Martin-She Put The Hurt on Me,Gerri Grainger-I Can Take It (straight off the back of I Go To Pieces) and Family Child-What About The Music....gave them a week and they got dropped...turnover of sounds was that fast.Trade eventually made it but the others didn't.........makes me think about the Phillips 45 The Free-Taking It Away that Richard S is holding in that photo ....another never made it tune....I've the Observer colour supplement article from 76 and all the lads in the photo are gathered round a box with Debbie Flemings-Long Gone.....never hear this out anywhere....must have been big but now forgotten.
  12. Have these ever had their day in the sun Casualeers-You Betta Be Sure (Laurie) Chris Calloway-Youre Something Else(CUB) Alaina Reed-Don't Let Me Fall In Love Alone (Capitol) Debbie Taylor-Don't Nobody Mess With My Baby (GWP) Marvellows-Piece Of Silk (WB) Gambrells-Fall In Love For The First Time (CUB) Otis Brown-Will You Wait (Lujuna) Timoth Carr -A Stop Along (Hot Biscuit) Jeannie Fortune-Once More With Feeling (RCA) Southwind Symphony-Coming Home (Glolite) Gentle Persuasion-Dynamite Explodes The Casualeers I thought would have had plays off the back of Dance Dance Dance??,The Southwind Symphony off the back of Lou Pride it being the instrumental (in every Domar soul pack I bought) and the Gentle Persuasion a cheaper version of Honey and the Bees Dynamite explodes...........all still cheapies.
  13. Rob Messer regularly plays it out
  14. One that baffles me is the 4 Tempos-Got To Have You on Rampart.(maybe it was big somewhere for a week)...still cheap as chips and a stormer of a record. Not even on youtube as is Chris Bartley-You Get Next To My Heart.....all these great soul records and people seem to be chasing novelty latin soul/pop that was big in the early eighties.
  15. It was a popular mid eighties record on the mod scene and also the london jazz scene in general. Im sure there are a few sat in collections. These records were also collected by World Music Collectors/Latin Jazz afficionados around the early to late eighties as well....there was an early comp released (memorys going...but it's the one with Bad Breath on) by Dave Hucker and there were the Jazz Juice things that fueled it..These records infiltrated London club land around that time with the jazz Working Week/Absolute Beginners boom ....Club Sondico/The Wag etc and places like Soul Jazz opened up.Bought most of my latin soul things around this time (but not Bobby Valentin) then started buying the latin jazz.I know a mate who I will be visiting at New Year whose buying stopped in 87....and I'm sure he has this along with Gypsy Woman,Soft Walkin,Ernstine Anderson,Mowhawks Lp,Little Sonny, Berts Apple Crumble,Shmon etc etc....it's a mod time capsule of records up to 87.I'm sure it was that popular it got booted on a 3 track ep..I know from the mod scene at the time it was Ray Barretto's Soul Drummers/Mercy Mercy BabyJimmy Castor-Hey Leroy...the later Magic Saxaphone(got both US demo and UK issue ),Joe Cubas-El Pito,Hey Joe,Sock It To Me,Mongo Santamarias-Cloud 9,25 Miles, Prince And Princess,Rubies-Spanish Boy......some clubs played this stuff all night.I'm sure Dave Darlow in Scarborough had a copy and I would bet Paul Hallam having a copy.Dean Rudland on here may have a copy.Baz Fe Jazz has probably got a copy...Right On by Ray Barretto was that popular in clubland that it got booted on a uk 12" backed with Gerry Woos Jive Samba........It seems Bobby V is a same old same old oldie now.....but an expensive one (for the moment)?
  16. Bet theres a few of these tucked away in 80's mod collections (circa 1985)
  17. Ive an Italian Tamla comp Lp with all the artists singing in Italian
  18. Sent an e mail to Illuminations media who produced Dance Brittania who hopefully can put this thread to bed...........
  19. Where does this footage come from...........I wonder if its from the So It Goes programme https://www.youtube.c...feature=related . There seems to be quite a bit of Wigan footage This England, This England outakes, the one above (there must be a full programme or piece...it's not just stock footage)and theres also another piece with a lad doing spins in stripey socks (probably not just stock footage). All from different dates. There must have been local news bits especially on the fire as well.....
  20. It's probably from episode 3 of BBC4's Dance Brittania series and it does look like The Top Of The Pops set.Can anyone give a precise transmission date of the Top Of The Pops Footsee showing.....I did write to Tom Hasset in Letchworth re the super 8 stuff (lead from D The Drug) but got no reply.I shouldnt have bothered as Taff knows him!!.This stuff is out there. Mick Pacey from the Scuinthorpe Pathfinders has recently had his old super 8 stuff from the northern scooter scene transferred(mid seventies stuff) onto DVD.Ive recently got a load of old Canadian radio stuff on reels which i need transferring with Doors and Jefferson Airplane stuff on it (priceless!!) from a house clearance near me.What about this then....
  21. Think this is it......anybody know what documentary this small snippet came from. You can then trace it back to the source...I can't believe there is only this 5 second bit.If this bit is featured then the whole thing must exist.I'm still after a feature on northern from 78 on a programme called Something else. or was it So It Goes..think they visited Skelmersdale??.Theres also footage from Scarborough from 77 Im after filmed by Yorkshire or ITV which has footage from the scooter rally that year... https://www.youtube.c...h?v=di02cko2SMM
  22. A list of records provided by Richard S to a well known rock rag NME or was it Sounds....
  23. "Northern Soul 2010" ...great uplifting uptempo motown based soul music.........not a schizophrenic latin jazz pfunk/opera mid tempo/reggae (soulful),latin (soul, not descargas) navel looking fat bald bloke based boring night....
