Strangest Artist To Have A Northern Record
Wiggyflat replied to Chris Anderton's topic in Look At Your Box
Always thought this was a bit strange. The ex drummer for the Shadows with Chase Side Shoot Up from 74.Jack Wardle from Middlesbrough told me he was selling this as a cover up for ages and was a big sound at one point.Brian Bennett was massively into Library session work for KPM,Bruton etc .My mind has it set as the golf theme but it looks as though that started in 1980. Ditto Mike Vickers and On The Brink.Mike Vickers being the saxophonist and flute player in Manfred Mann.He moved massively into session work and TV work....Captain Scarlet,Please Sir etc -
I'm after one.If I don't get one before 25th June bring it to Southend.

Wasn't an advert. It was a very small fashion feature for a programme I think was called Network 7.Keb dances in it and it was filmed at a club called Dance Chase.Very slim story about a lad dancing all night and then finishing and going straight to his postie round.Lots of baggy pegged trousers and Rokit gear.Still got it on video somewhere.
-
You think you got it bad....you will soon move on to Fast Jazz Fusion...Azar Lawrence,Johnny Hammond,Airto and Flora,Patrice Rushen,Chick Corea,Dom Um Romaeo....a fluffy dice and Capri is the only future

Had this acetate for about 25 years and found it in a junshop. One side is Ben E King's I Can't Break The News To Myself. It is a Shapiro Bernstein acetate so I'm assuming a UK publishers acetate to use to tout the song for either release or a cover version.(I know the Dakotas released the track on the B Side of Spider And The Fly). The problem I have is identifying the other side. I'm sure someone on here will ID it straight away but most people I have played it to have not known it.Apologies for the crackles. recorded on my Crosley burger. It is just titled My Love Come Home. The second one is a recent buy and entitled Honey Child by Zola Taylor. It was advertised as unreleased but I'm sure she had something to do with the Platters.Does anyone know it and was it released? The hiss only comes out on the Crosley burger!!!
-
Is Kitch playing it from acetate as well? Was it ever released? Sounds like Chuck to these ears.Just got an acetate myself from the US by Zola Taylor who I believe was a singer for the Platters. It's a ten inch and you have to put the needle halfway across the vinyl to play it!.
-
Just wondered if anyone can identify the singer?. The advertiser thinks it's Chuck Jackson.Could it be Ben E King? A great record nevertheless. https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300549770635&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBUAA:GB:1123

Here you go then Northern Soul Film Dancers with Plan B......I will have some vinegar with that chip. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwMk6HG9ZZ0

Nobody will ever be happy..........you would probably upset some hardcore glam fans by mentioning boob tubes and platforms in the same sentence. They would probably complain why ain't there no Hector or Jook in a documentary/film.I don't hold out to much hope for this other film as I believe it's going to be filmed in the USA and all the kid dancers have been busy on stage prancing about to Plan B.
-
How do I vote?. I like it as a record and would file it in the mod/beat section .....but as a northern record...no.Just off to dig out the first Yes Lp.....mmm Looking Around could get spins at the more progressive venues.
-
I have got this on DVD somewhere. It's the woman out of Shameless who went out with Frank Gallagher and the bloke who was Gail Tilsleys boyfriend (the plumber who was addicted to pills). Its set around a northern soul club with some great dancing footage and a soundtrack of UK Grapevine 45's. From 78-79 I think.

Paypal Gift Kevin.johansen@btinternet.com An excellent condition demo copy of this great mid tempo 45.This was really Jackie Lee under a pseudonym. £65
-
Here it is.................a bit better than Rupert
-
Here we go Part 1.All are differing styles r&b,mod, brit soul etc. The Exotics is particularly good as is the Emma Rede. Thanks Pete just flushed a spare demo of Emma Rede and The Persuasions I'll Go Crazy.I have left out the out and out beat/Freakbeat as I don't think it has a place here. How do you lot organise your records?.I'm looking for some decent large drawers.I live in a Victorian house and want to get them all stashed away in label order.By the way I have a youtube channel wiggyflat with loads of latin/beat/northern uploaded.Loads of unreleased stuff (the Julie Driscoll/Auger acetate was never released...its on the youtube cannel)and things that are not on youtube...here goes.

Im on to it Pete..............

Nationwide may have done it around 78/79 when Chris Rea released his album Deltics which had a track called Twisted Wheel which was his tribute to watching his older brother visit The Wheel.In77 Nationwide did a segment on a typical day in Scarborough on a bank holiday and captured the scooter rally there...that's something I would like to see. Anyway here the Junior Walker clipn from the Ram Jam Club https://www.youtube.c...h?v=LWdRvyr9Jic

The beard and flat cap is massive in London....it's a looking old before your time thing....Frank Elson was way ahead of the game.

Found this on youtube footage from Root and Jenny Jackson at Plebs in Halifax...there's also footage of Junior Walker at The Ram Jam Club...so it's out there.

Wiggyflat replied to Glynthornhill's topic in Look At Your Box
Would they have released a US acetate of this looking to release this in the USA and in the thirty years of collecting it has never turned up....and in 2011 we get an acetate that hasn't even turned up in Rosetta Stones husbands shed.....laugh!I nearly forked out 500 quid
