  1. Ronnie Walker-Its A Good Feeling thinking it was the Falcons song....I wish!
  2. I think years ago there were very few alternatives and you had to really travel to hear the music and it was uptempo sixties until the Mecca stuff and look at the uproar that caused....now there are about 20 different varieties under the umbrella of northern soul and it's all been diluted.Ebay/internet/films/press/CD's has blown the mystique it once had.You can travel to five different nights and get 5 different variations. I had to start a night up in the south east as in my opinion there wasn't a night that played traditional northern soul and I'm not just talking hammered oldies.A lot put northern soul/rare soul/boogaloo/latin but that's not what I was after.I do think you have to set your stall out and be blatant on the flyers.I knocked up a youtube vide of the sort of stuff i spin....nobody can be under any illusion when they come and start asking for Doug Banks etc.As for a nantional weekly large niter...there would be 700 dj's and 5 dancers and 1 dancer on the floor at a time due to the different varieties.
  3. Love all of this music.........but it has no place on the northern soul scene.Im going to push the boundaries and dig out my Funkapolitan,Animal Nightlife,Working Week,Morrisey Mullen and Light Of The World records out and claim it's the new thing.I'm not sure if some people on here are actually into northern.
  4. I'm Your Pimp-Skullsnaps.....dated badly.. pimps just don't do it anymore I Can't Help Lovin Dat Man-Ila Van.........It's the boobity boops that grate I've Got To Have Your Love-Pierre Hunt....the backing singers sound like they have just finished singing The Generation Game
  5. Shep-Im sitting In.....the Val Doonican of northern Give the dog a bone......female vocal with dog yapping noises. I have blotted the artist out of my head. Lisa Miller-Loneliest Christmas Tree......come on who broke these sounds. Im now getting sick of The Cheater as well....two times at IOW...oh dear.Murdered under the patio...
  6. Issue of Barry for me and a yellow Joe Brown demo....Im running for cover as I have about 20 in that list. It's a British thing. That Bill Kenwright is one of the worst vocal performances I have ever heard...no wonder he got into Theatre. Someone actually played Hang On by Vick Flick...this is a substandard Booker T sort of sound. Am I the only one that doesn't like L Allen Cant We Talk It Over.Reminds me of Arthur Mullard and Thora Hird on a duet or John Shuttleworth on the hammond.
  7. Joe Browns version is just that bit better than Bensons. Can't we name and shame the deejays who broke these sounds...still can't believe Chase Side Shoot Up was played at the Torch.
  8. Tommy Sands- The Statue was pretty bad
  9. What's the fourth version,The Action,Lonely Crowde A and B and Eddie Hodges
  10. Just Say Goodbye.....Mickey Mouse on helium....Catch Me I'm Falling is great though I Just kept On Dancing....mawkish American Graffiti style tripe The record about burning your toast and drinking Best In Coffee without milk....sick of seeing teddy boy rockabillies dancing to this. Freddie Houston-Soft Walkin.....I don't give a toss about your bloody prom. Magnetics-Lady In Green....luckily it's that rare nobody plays it out Yes Dean Barlow is bad....and I can't believe people have the front to play that Del Davis.Got a great unknown northern reggae record called Black and White by Greyhound..£500 to you.. Ted Cassidy-The Lurch and Mickey Mouse concerto (why it was booted I will never know)
  11. Isle Of Wight for me this weekend. AF GP Blue/silver metalflake Rapido 250 Lambretta.Riding straight down Fri morning from Clapham Common.Bit of a coincidence as there's a northern soul night in The Crown pub.I wonder if Moldie and Barnie are going. That will be 3 scooter riders at the northern soul do. Edit make that 4!! central scooters.bmp

  13. Seen a few of these but mostly worn by "the darkside".People who are into heavy metal and rave who are hanging on to the scooter scene and ride modern mopeds. As for Italian mods.....well come on they are only jealous. They were listening to Baccara in the seventies.Scooters and northern will always go hand in hand.
  14. SRT in the UK pressed up vanity pressings for groups as D said just under 100 copies to avoid tax.All sorts of music....cabaret bands/soul and prog rock. They were for the band members and sold/given away at gigs.....try finding the Grannie LP.Lyntone did the same and pressed up for companies/advertising and eventually went into flexi discs.Never usually see US soul advertised as private/vanity pressings but I'm sure loads of stuff was. https://www.7tt77.co.uk/SRT.html
  15. Yarmouth Northern soul weekender 1991 radio Richards show with Kev Roberts (Wigan failures) and Brian Rae's Sue special.
  16. Got one myself. How do you tell the boot from an original?.It's a pleasant record but not exactly another Can't Lose My Head.
  17. This 3 Degrees tune has just given me goosepimples as has the instrumental b side. The beauty is e bay 6.99 buy it now.I'ts mine The B side This must have been played somewhere and I'm assuming it's an oldie.
  18. Just uploaded some old tapes onto youtube via MP3 of Richard Searlings Jazz Fm shows. Here's the Barry Tasker Pendulum special. Here's another one with Chris Lalor.Loads of good anecdotes on junkshopping for records in south London.
  19. Dean I have a radio show on tape that I have just transferred to MP3 and I'm sure youre playing this 45...about 88/89.You also mention and play that Johnny Harris record.Ive already uploaded some Peterson Mad On Jazz stuff... your tape is next.

  22. I believe Mark Freeman has already done it at the CO-OP
  23. I think that if Ian wanted to be a big time oldies dj now and get top bookings (Kings Hall/Weekenders etc) and wanted the records he had back in the day then I think that list is representative.....fancy hearing that lot as newies!!.Someone mentioned that most oldies events don't care whether it's ovo or not....I'm sure the Kings Hall is originals or do you know different.Right I'm off with popsike and a calculator. BTW is this representative of a box of then current plays or is this stuff that passed through your hands over the years.BTW I have 13 of them
  24. Ian give us a list of your box from 75 and we can tot up how much it would cost in todays prices to replace then we can vote if you would make a top oldies dj if you still had your box.
  25. George Benson-On Broadway is played all over
