Original Or Re-Issue (Aka Pressings) On Ebay
Wiggyflat replied to Chris L's topic in Look At Your Box
Always had this down for a boot as it doesn't have the raised embossed letters on the label............rescued amongst a load of Roy Handy boots in the Daveygate Centre in York......they used to have stuff to drool over if you were into UK northern and always stuck on the walls. -
Original Or Re-Issue (Aka Pressings) On Ebay
Wiggyflat replied to Chris L's topic in Look At Your Box
Just checked mine (demo).....it's the lip that definately gives the demo boot from original away....i don't think the boot has the R stamp(My Manship Guide volume 2 2008 states it is an H Stamp but it's definately an R at 4 oclock on the Life side and Prove side.)either from memory!....don't have that to compare (sold it for 99.99...oops) .BTW i'm still baffled by the Epitome red/white demo saga.....boots don't have the raised numbers? yet on my Geminiles record on Sandbag there's no raised numbers?? ...and we think archeologists are weird. They are going to have a field day with northern boots in thousands of years time. -
Original Or Re-Issue (Aka Pressings) On Ebay
Wiggyflat replied to Chris L's topic in Look At Your Box
I always wonder who buys these and pay these prices for boots as ive not met a person who is prepared to pay out £100 and not check the authenticity.I know the northern soul collecting scene record prices have shot up over the last 10 years as it has been opened worldwide because of adverts/tv/books/ ebay etc.Are these people buying from outside the UK? and I wonder how much of it is shill bidding.I will say I have bought loads of records on here and not had one bad experience.BTW i have had the James Bounty boot and now got an original...the boot is easy to tell...it has that shiny seventies flexible styrene feel and round at the edges and would i take a punt at 99.99 on that one in the chance that it might be an original..... no.. -
I bought it from Alan Riding who was a jazz record dealer in London 88....he couldn't sell this sort of stuff as everyone was after LP tracks... to me this is northern style funk and just the right tempo.

Bring back the instrumentals....might stick this one in the box this year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vo2bZ2JPgdE

I have e mailed Kaleidescope who look after Bob's archive regarding this in the past but no reply........I wonder who has the large haul of video tapes that got sold for 25k with this episode? I bet it's bloody Dave Clark who has the rights to RSG and won't release anything.Has anyone on here got the Omnibus episodes from 24/5/80 and 9/8/78 or the complete Something Else with the Skelmersdale kids.

The same allnighter values of seeking out good American black dance records.........I will agree on that but I think the difference is that the uptempo sound is not a primary factor anymore and midtempo and ballads are programmed.Even the funk that is played now has more of a JB sound than a Chicago "Baby Boy" sort of sound. It was inevitable as you can't keep turning up uptempo never been played winners everyday which is why I'm looking for all the records that fell through the cracks. The turnover years ago was rapid and loads of good records were overlooked.I do find it ironic that the JB style funk that the northern scene was getting away from in the early seventies(played at London clubs like Crackers) has been taken on 30 plus years later and I feel that the northern soul scene is losing it's identity in the process.

Not picking you out I'm just using it to as an example to show the big gap between the rare soul and northern soul.

I did this one and then i did this one. Bearsy thought the first one was rubbish. This is the second one

"Todays scene?".Oldies nights are in reality "todays scene" as there's loads of them on every weekend an the biggest niter in the country is an oldies night. These are the nights that are packing them in.There's some good music being found now but in reality it can't be compared to the "Top 500 records".Rare Soul doesn't do it for me (most of it I find too slow and unexciting) as I'm more interested in collecting the underplayed oldies (uptempo) and the ones that slipped through the net.Good luck to Elaine's film but the news segment is exactly the type of potrayal that everyone was up in arms about on the Soulboy thread although I think they have the little details in clothing etc down to a tee.I enjoyed the Pete Waterman show.....he seems quite an amiable type of man. Maybe he should have used the word "working class" instead of "miners". ....maybe he could fund Elaine's film.By the way I posted a 90 minute youtube video of uptempo underplayed northern and Bearsy didn't like any of them so I came to the conclusion that he wasn't into northern just rare soul

Think I have Romey Carr's version somewhere.....from memory I always preferred the b side Stand Up And Fight

Went to Carter's Steam Fair recently and found these on the fairground rides....Great 1950's fair including Wall Of Death and Vintage machines and rides.

Great stuff Mark......we have very similar tastes in northern.Think you will have to put in full titles and tick some tag boxes if you want some exposure on youtube. Then again if it's for your own enjoyment don't bother.Don't know how but I manage to upload 90 minute mixes on my youtube channel wiggyflat.Keep em coming.

Which Northern Track You Dislike The Most
Wiggyflat replied to MrsWoodsrules's topic in All About the SOUL
No no no....it's good IMHO -
You called me...........I have heard that there is a rich celebrity claiming northern soul credentials in the area.I am working on behalf of the King Of Northern Soul to eradicate such individuals.....pray not tell me where this person dwells...I have heard that he is not a true keeper of the faith and we must hound him out as he is not a true believer.

Little Anthonys Better Use Your Head has always got my goat....was he singing with the aid of a helium balloon and taking gulps between verses.I know Pete it's one of your faves.....but I love Eddie Holman and he sings falsetto. -
Just missed out on a US copy that Shifty had for sale...if you have one vg or better pm me with a price. Thanks

Calling All Southern/south Coast Soulies
Wiggyflat replied to Russ Vickers's topic in All About the SOUL
Here's my five pence worth 1.Employ at least one local deejay with good collections that have a reputation and will do legwork to promote it. 2.An uptempo ovo policy seems to work for me .....over 200 in last night but that's up to you.Try and be different.Don't try to be all things to all people or you may just end up with a night/nighter with no direction and all over the place with different factions of disgruntled people. . 3.Keep away from the summer holidays and try to avoid clashing. 4.Employ one big name deejay who can bring something to the party.....whatever people say Evison/Roberts/Winstanley can bring them in. 5.Utilise a local record shop for posters/tickets. 6.You will need a long run up for promotion.....5/6 months. 7.Look professional utilise ticketmaster etc but don't be fooled by pre sales unless you sell out. 8.Facebook........keep at it and maybe produce a little video of what you are about. 9.Keep the guestlist down and beg/borrow/steal equipment. 10.Hire of venue.......times are tight and drink is not selling as much as it used to which means you should get a good deal on a venue. 11.you can counteract number 4 by a rarer deejay pleasing both sides alike and getting 2 sets of people. This seems to have died off. 12.More is less these days....it's not 1975 with thousands of young kids with loads of energy.Keep it to 3 a year. 12.Don't sit on the toilet half an hour before wondering if anyone's going to turn up! Good luck -
Alvin Cash and The Registers...Alvin was 10 and the registers were 5...and black.Apologies in reply to Dan Dares list....

There's over £500 in that little lot....I'm lucky as I can sell stuff that I have bought over the years from time to time to fund wants. If I was starting off I would buy cheap originals under the radar like this. Most boots won't go up but these probably will. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zI0nnDiFlg

First phase of Cleethorpes....good footage but they are dancing like Bionic men.Spins and backdrops.Wouldn't mind seeing it cleaned up and the right speed. There's some tv footage with some dancers on I have on video somewhere of 3 dancers from there doing balletic/russian rolls etc to The Champion (from early eighties)but I can't find it on youtube.Richard Searling,John Vincent and he shall not be named get interviewed a well. At 5.05 I remember this style of dancing very well.....includes a swallow dive, backdrop into half splits.Would put money on him being a northern dancer.Keb is in part 3 a few years before newies and Stafford. https://www.youtube.com/user/discoreview#p/a/u/1/dgjc-6L0Wm4
