  6. Kev J passes on his words on this weekends upcoming two roomed Niter that coincides with the first Lambretta club rally to Southend since 1979. It's on the 12th May 2012 The dark days before the Mod Revival and Quad the predominanly northern scooter clubs were fed on a diet of Northern Soul. Many riders were Casino and Blackpool Mecca regulars. That explains the odd pictures you see of people in baggies and parkas. The Leeds Central Scooter Club were a predominatly northern soul scooter club and used their emblem of the crossed fists for rear plaques on their scoots. Rallies then were organised word of mouth and the printing of paper flyers. It was all pre internet and mobile phone and still underground. In 1978 the Lambretta Club Of Great Britain decided to organise a rally to Southend. The club had virtually been in mothballs and this was a new venture.Aside from a little trouble with Teddy boys on the seafront it went okay.In 1979 the Rally was repeated but this was an altogether different affair with violence between the northern (northern soul)and southern clubs (mod revival) and the official LCGB run was not repeated. Official early National rallies of the early eighties always had a strong Northern Soul influence with Chris Burton (ex Torch) forming the Allnighter Club Of Great Britain.....Brian Rae,Jon Buck,Pat Brady deejaying etc and big Northern records would be played at the same time as on the Northern Soul Allnighter circuit. This virtually stopped after other musical influences started to infiltrate. At the same time Mod scooter rallies started happening and early r&b and soul was being discovered along with smart clothes. The 11th,12th and 13th May sees the Lambretta Club rally back in Southend for the first time since 79 and we aim to bring the Northern Soul Spirit with it with a 2 roomed Allnighter at the old Southend Teddy Boy/Dr Feelgood hangout The Kursaal on Southend seafront. Room 1 The Guests We have all the way from Wigan Mr Russ Winstanley and no introduction is necessary. Mark Sargeant is an old Wigan Casino regular with an amazing collection of originals and is presently a music features writer at Scootering Pete Kelross has been running the Northern Soul nights at Bisley for the last few years and also plays at The Crown on the Isle Of Wight Chad Fredericks was a face on the early mod scene in Southend and has a great box of originals and is an indemand dj in the south east Dick Coombes was the original northern soul dj in the south East.A regular at The Wirrina Niters at Peterborough and gave Keb Darge his first dj break. Room 2 The Guests Jon Barnes-Jones.....Another regular face.He can turn his hand to anything but specialises in early Reggae. The Dandy Bloom Boys-They have attained a loyal young fanbase of R&B fans in and around the Southend area and run their own packed club at The Railway Hotel in Southend.Bringing in the younger element. Kev Moore- A London and Southeast regular and always enthusiastic. Now running his own Mexican themed Northern Soul night at El Paso. Kevin Johansen-I will be digging back into The Mod scene circa 1985 when there was a thirst for undiscovered r&b and early soul music....think 98% plus Tax,Honeychild,Maximillion,Roy Redmond,Mr Dynamite etc etc So scooter or not the Kursaal,Eastern Esplanade,Southend On Sea Essex, SS1 2WW (without the teds) will be the place to be this coming Saturday. An allnighter in 2 rooms. We have a free CD and patch to give away with the first 100 advance tickets.(Only 30 left now) .Tickets are £10 from ( Theticketsellers.co.uk 0844 870 0000) Full details at www.northern-noise.co.uk .
  7. Mike Jemison was a Butch spin in 92 or thereabouts...I have him on my YouTube channel spinning it on Cleethorpes radio.
  8. Got an autographed UK pye acetate of Marvin Gayes I Heard It Through The Grapevine.... Wonder why on Pye?
  9. Ive bought loads from this seller. He usually has numerous copies of each record so don't be suprised if other copies surface.Never has mint of any 45's though.
  10. The Executive on UK cbs....Roy Carr who used to write for the NME s old group. How much is The Motown Spinners worth these days as opposed to The Spinners....... The ink is black the page is white.
  11. I like them both so I bought both.....
  12. Surely the most money made must have been the mid seventies bootleggers. The only way to have the sounds was on a 45 and there were kids every weekend buying thousands of them plus there was a high turnover of big sounds ensuring a steady turnover.
  13. Sounds like the Cavaliers hold on.to my baby
  14. Here's a few of mine....looks like the inked A's are to denote the plug side...looks like some stores had a habit of ink stamping their shop and even price
  15. The deejays Acetate man-spends his time tracking down producers/artists/label owners for the old tat they deemed not suitable for release in the first place. Some of it is good but there's a lot of crap.He needs an arctic to transport his box and can be seen with a grimaced face as another bit of lacquer flakes off that Pugmeat Nelson detroit rarity recorded in an unused skip. 50 Box-Only buys trophy pieces of records over 1k that another deejay has previously broken...doesn't know anything about Jackie Wilson....usually has a good job to bankroll this and also sees his records as an investment commodity.Always on popsike....can be heard saying ...one went on Manship's for.....he is a feeder of the record dealer who has tons of rubbish left from that haul in the big wood shed in Tuscon from 1978 and has created markets to sell them... Soul Night-"it's about the music innit".Wants to make it big in his own "local way".May often or not have his own internet radio station playing oldies from CD.Never had the records in the first place and had a few SOS boots from the eighties.Buys repro patches.says KTF a lot and organises a lot of charity doos and easter egg runs for the local scooter club. Giffer-Bald and in his fifties....reminisces about the Torch and that Frank Booper could dance.Ended when Wigan shut and he got married. After the divorce and pension found the scene still alive....he could now make his mark....buys all the ballads and mid tempo and deejays at the local soul nite to 20 people....there's still time...there's still time. Opportunist-Was a face back in the day...broke records....had an ear for a tune and got into selling double glazing in 1981.Sold all the records and in the 90's noticed the CD generation of northern.....got back into it but cannot afford/care about the records.Get's regular gigs on the oldies scene on his name. The Mod-It all went pear shaped for him in 1988...the mod scene was playing great black music then....everyone went San Francisco....he jumped ship and is still trying to influence the northern scene with his latin soul and r&b.May run a small night in a town centre. The Evangelist-Went to Wigan in 79/80.....Can be heard saying "Richard saved it from pop dross".Frothes at the mouth when saying "detroit rarity".Stuck it through the hard times and resents the new baggies and patches reborns.Still buys like mad and is into "rare soul" not northern as "northern " has pop connoctations.Loves saying "that's white pop" with a sneer and is on a higher level "keeping it soulfull".Is a proud soul snob. Anymore?
  16. What about Giffers.....fat bald blokes in their late fifties/sixties.....usually have an ailment of some sort.Wear trousers ordered out the back of the old News Of The World free mag...very into mid tempo/ballad soul and love to deejay. They are making up for the fact they didn't get a look in through the seventies...and keep feeding the dealers market of tunes nobody wanted back then.Crossover/beat ballads are often muttered by them and what's this old giffer playing is uttered by the crowd.Theres also the new type the plastic mod/Jimmy Cooper who can often be seen on a steed of this type.
  17. There was a re release......there were some unissued bits released as well on the Immediate label Traxters-Glandular fever being on the b side of a Crispian St Peters B Side.........organ instrumental.Just got the book on Immediate in a bargain book shop cheap.Had a crap grey boot of Everything...they made no attempt to make it look like a US legit release. Her Likely Piece Of Work on Polydor isn't bad.
  18. This love can't be denied..was it ever booted as I have seen.a styrene copy with a long run out.
